  • I love being a new zealander, Kiri is my idol :)

  • I thought the original was performed first by Bianca Castafiore in Tintin's albums ;-)

  • great presentation, orchestra and vocal!

  • Mercy! My jewels!

  • Ciel! Mes Bijoux!

  • Signora de la Castafiore? Is that you?

  • This version and Angela Gheorgiu's must rank as two of the best. Kiri's voice is as pure as bell - hear her in Doretta's Dream Song from La Rondine - pure magic!

  • Are shoulder pads any worst than bell bottoms or sagging. Sagging has to be the absolute worst, especially below the butt.

  • @Lightstrikers Is it really so important?

  • @alrune8 Why are you making my plain comment/observation so importent?

  • @Lightstrikers I was just asking a question, that is all. If you don't want people to talk to you, don't post a comment.

  • C'est de la belle merde !! hein les gars ??

quelle bouz cette folle !! ;-)

  • saw here recently in concert at Menton in the South of France; wonderful!

  • She seems to have some problems in the peak tones.

  • Epic shoulder pads!!

  • pretty good trill from Kiri, I didn't know she had that in her

  • why do sopranos get the best material ever written for opera?!?! don't get me wrong i loves me some comfort ye and e lucevan le stelle, some non so piu and thy hand belinda, and some madamina il catalogo and der vogelfanger but sopranos have the most thrilling arias written for the stage!!!

  • @GosfordAbercrombie isn't Dido's lament written for soprano? I'm confused...

  • more like mezzo!

  • @saxamaphoneguy1

yeah I thought that as well.but I'd love to sing it once, I'm a bass.

This aria is one of the most beautiful ever!

  • I find that annoying as well...

  • @GosfordAbercrombie because the high notes are like flying. imagine singing them!! Amazing.

  • beautiful!

  • Another lovely lyric voice doing this exquisitely, Kiri is My girl.

  • WONDERFUL INTERPRETATION!

  • Jewels air, from faust by charle gounoud

  • Is anyone else reminded of Tchaikovsky when they hear this aria?

  • So, this is he same one as in the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA?

  • Mhmm. :)

  • Incredible! She simply nailed it

  • i like this brighter tempo

    and her performance is stunning

  • i agree

  • Interprétation subtile et distinguée. Comme toujours chez Mme Kanawa. Merci et bravo!!!!

  • ...it's perfect. Yes, a little fast, but PERFECT.

  • Is this the song in Tintin? Bianca Castafiore?

  • You know, iirc, it is! (mind you, I'm remembering the comics that I read as a kid, so if they did a movie recently (I think they did?) they might be using something else. But in th ecomics, yes, I believe so! Cool!

  • This is what you'd expect from a full lyric soprano

  • The tempo is faster than I have heard in the past. And I have a recording of her doing this and its slower. Its probably because this was televised and there were time issues. Nevertheless.....AMAZING! as always from Kiri!

  • Lovely. I have her on a recording of Faust. So full and rich. Less thick than Fleming, with a nice air to her voice. Great talent. I love her!

  • she have one of the most beautifull voices I ever heard and I like it but don't you think that the tempo is too fast?

  • I agree, it does seem a tad too fast. Excellent performance though.

  • Her Bb at the end is so full..i had no idea her voice was this powerful...i love the ring and bass of her high notes..its like you can feel them...Awesome singer

  • It's actually a B natural, not flat.

  • Thanks..i have okay relative pitch..but learning to have perfecrt pitch..

  • Heh that's fine. I only know that it's a B natural because I have a pitch pipe, and because I sing this myself. However, we can both agree that the note is amazing no matter what it is. :)

  • Amazing voice, and she is very pretty also. No comment about the shoulder pads. ;)

  • Who knew Kiri could be so cute? :) Aside from the singing, I love how she waved at the end!

  • Me.

  • Just out of curiosity. How many of you are here because of wikipedia?

  • LOL. me!

  • me too! lol =P

  • me!!

  • lol...me...

  • Lol me. Hahahaha. But I've always loved Kiri.

  • me. lol

  • What a great lyric soprano!

  • hear singing is very nice, but her dress is ridiculous!

  • Yeah I think it's the shoulder pads, LOL, but that last note was awesome!

  • @alecs1976 Love her voice :D ! and we must remember the eighties were not fashion's high point.

  • @alecs1976 have mercy. it was the 80's. they didn't know any better ;)

  • @alecs1976 C'mon!!! it's 87!!! May be you are too young to undesrtand, but 80's fashion was ridiculous, hhhahahhah!!!

  • so im not an opera guy. but of sopranos all ive ever heard in my life i like her the most

  • You have a very good taste indeed. This is a very fine rendition of this aria. Her trill is very good particularly at the beginning. Many sopranos don't even attempt it.

  • they call that a trill? ok. ive heard her do several pieces that have them, or something similar, and it blows my mind. i also like her ability to sing without adopting a goofy looking posture, most sopranos distort their face and head and look like someone in a big costume giving a recital. she looks like the character in the moment more than any ive seen

  • what do you mean they don't attempt it?? have you heard ANY other recording of this? they ALL do they trill...

  • Are you serious? She's one of the best lyrics...

  • This video should be edited to a regular screen mode, you made her look sooo wide.

    Beautiful voice though.

  • The natural off-hand delivery is a marvel of breath control and vocal relaxation

  • Danke fuer anschauen.

    dameKIRIlover

  • "There are too few female artists such as she in the opera world. Who in Audio&video is received so widely like KIRI? Not aware?"

Auf Englisch, bitte. Ihre Bemerkungen sind wichtig für jeden. Vielen dank!

  • Thanks for the translation! I will write more in English.

  • Is this available on a DVD or a tape??

  • It's on LASER DISC only released in Japan........almost 17 years ago. I hope it will be on DVD eventually!

  • Thanks belcantokai. I have a Laser Disk Player, so I could probably get it if I can find the laser disk in the us.

  • I have more for you.......check my channel.

  • I-love-her!

    what a dress... the 90s ...

  • I guess I really have to get it!!: her Faust...

    She's delicious, a lovely Marguerite!!

    Thanks!! =D

  • I hope everybody here will enjoy the singing by my beloved Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. And I promise to upload more!

  • Awesome! Where did you get these?

  • How can one not!? Thanks damekirilover.
