Lincoln Mayorga is one underrated man. Apart from his classical work, he was B.Bumble on Nutrocker, played the great piano on The Four Preps Big Man and the wonderful piano accompanying Ketty Lester on Love Letters. All this plus the great Piltdown Men stuff.
Amazing. This is the first time I've ever heard this song outside an album my (then teenage) uncle had back in the early '60's called "Shut Down". The last time I listened to it was probably 45 years ago. Thanks for the memories.
first heard this on the Capital album "Shut Down II." when I was 10 or 11 years old...it had been released as a single in 1960 and peaked at #75 on the pop charts that September
So I find out that Lincoln Mayorga wrote "Dock Of The Bay". He was associated with the Four Freshmen, created The Piltdown Men, and wrote a legendary million seller for Otis Redding. We call that RANGE!
"(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" is a song co-written by soul singer Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper. It was first recorded by Otis Redding in 1967, shortly before his death. It was released posthumously on Stax Records' Volt label in 1968, becoming the first posthumous single in U.S. chart history. (Wikipedia)

Absolutely a range- he was classically trained, yet had love for Rock!

Quite possibly the only pop record ever to have tympani as a lead instrument.
This is one of my favorite songs.

Lincoln Mayorga played piano on most if not all of Phil Ochs' albums when he went over to A&M.
Also, this sure has a Sandy Nelson sound.
