  • great

  • Has anybody ever told you that you sound like the voice of Garfield?

  • sir it is necessarily to use governor for nitro heli?

  • I love your philosophy about crashes!

Your video has convinced me that I need some form of smoke emitter on my electric helicopters!

BTW - enjoyed your experimentation with single blade flight. Did you achieve more economical flying with single blade on a DH 9100?

  • I taught myself to fly on an old Shuttle Z with a rate gyro. Brings back some good (and not so good) memories LOL.

  • Nicely done....SEMPER FI

  • cool guy

  • your badass...much respect or fixing that up

  • You should do radio or media dudley smooth voice (lose the Chicaaago accent)

  • Those of us that have been flying copters for a short period of time with gyros and the latest technology take it for granted most of the time and don't really understand how difficult it was to fly many years ago. By the way did I see a little video reversal at the end when you landed? Thanks for the videos.

  • You are awesome man!!! Really great video. And that was good advice regarding Beetles and Porsches :)

  • This is great. My first heli was a hirobo shuttle like the one you flew in this video. It was 1987 and I was 14. I spent a year getting the darn thing to run and setting up the tail so that i could get it off the ground. It was great seeing the old shuttle and how far helicopters have come. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane

  • Phil collins rules!!

  • Awesome job. This reminds of when I was a kid with my first Kyosho Concept .30, although the Shuttle was clearly more "difficult" to deal with as an even earlier heli ... and no gyro to boot. Great video!

  • Mr NightFlyer, I have never commented on your videos but have watched them over the last 3 years or so while learning to fly helis. I must say you are a great guy and your videos have been very helpful to me. Thanks again to all you guys for your guidance and inspiration. I tip my hat :)

  • You should have look threw Ebay for the shuttle fan instead off making one.....happy flying.

  • your smart

  • 1985 is "antique" ? no way... Cool video!

  • I love your videos..nice soft well spoken voice and very informative.!

  • Nice vid do you know wher ecan i find some spares i crashed mine (on yourtube sad hirobo helicopter crash)

  • Dave this was the first helicopter i ever bought in 1987. The first time i really spun it up was scary and i never got passed hovering and keeping it tail to me but i still learned from it "should have started with something smaller" LOL !!! I now have an HK 500GT,HK450 GT Pro i built and love and some planes . THANKS FOR INSPIRING SO MANY OF US INTO THE HOBBY

  • brilliant, Ive tried to fly an rc heli, but crashed it :o(

  • Great video mate, smashing to see the old Hirobo flying so well.

  • for the belt have you tried using the belts of belt driven nitro cars they are nearly the same mate.

  • I have a brand new shuttle ,never flown, new starter new os 32 heli, never run, with updated extra rotor head,if any buddy would like to buy it,make me a offer. It has never been assembled.

  • love that one , my first lawnmower hirobo ,lol and expensive those times ,lol...fck os engines , total cost 1000 ,before flight ,,

  • Could you tell me how you fished from the pontoons to tieng he line on, would a honey bee 2 or a honey bee king 2 or even a honey bee cpx would work for fishing.

  • Could you tell me how you fished from the pontoons to tieng he line on, would a honey bee 2 or a honey bee king 2 or even a honey bee cpx would work for fishing.

  • Could you tell me how you fished from the pontoons to tieng he line on, would a honey bee 2 or a honey bee king 2 or even a honey bee cpx would work for fishing.

  • Well done my friend

  • you could can put a cone starter on the top and it will have made that starting a lot more easier.

  • Dave, if you ever start a company, I'll be the first one to buy stock.

  • the start belt is a sewing mach belt

  • Phil Collins elevator music!

  • Nice job Dave

  • Thanks dave thats another great video. are you pitch settings all the same when setting these things up ?

  • "NEVER GONNA DO THAT AGAIN" LOL. NICE VID DAVE

  • i have one of those. i wanted to rebuild it. but after watching this vid... sounds like more of a prob then fun.

  • I always wondered what the groove in the starter was for!

  • Nice Dave! I am a little confused. Did you show two kits or was the box part of the Shuttle Kit? Second question Is there room enough in that battery compartment to house the two d cells and continue to use the panel? Thanks for your time and posts.

    Ray

  • Hi Dave I've been looking for a nice little folding seat, and was wondering if the stool you were using at 3:44 is fold-able and if so where did you find/buy it? It appears to be just what I'm looking for. Thank you!

    O,

  • Awesome Dave!

  • At first I was confused when I saw a very strange object on your forehead, I kept watching and realized it was a camera! You are a genius Mr. Herbert!

  • Fantastic video Mr. Herbert! Have you ever scratch built a 3D foamie before? I need help on putting on the motor mount. Thanks.

  • heya dave, i have a solution for your starter belt, go to this site,

robotmarketplacedot(com) look up the mechanical and drive section, there you will see timing gears and belts. first option is a 1/4'' wide by 4 inches at 4$. no more stretchy belt! cheap and you can also mod one of the gears to fit your starter, taking away the chance of burning out another belt. :D always glad to help you out

  • Awesome work. I agree to our theory aout problem solving and in the end its logical too.

  • Thanks Mr. Herbert for the video. Your success is inspiring. I never had anything but modern electric stuff. I think that there should be something like an RC class where you would be the mentor.

  • Ive been wanting to make a power panel for my tote box, but have no idea what Im doing.. or what goes where, any chance you could make a video as to how you do it!? That would be great! :D

  • @ 4:01 ---> He said 2 YEARS!?!?? Wow. I've been flying since July 8th 2011.. I got a BLADE MCX2 RTR with 7 extra 150 mAh batts. I always wanted to fly a heli, and for my 39th B-Day, on a whim, I got myself a good starter one. Glad I did! It is tons of fun.

  • Don't get a Porsche when you just crashed your volkswagen, get a new vw and when you don't crash it anymore, THEN get your porsche ;-)

  • Hi Dave, I admire your patience...I would have put a shotgun to that heli after all the problems you had making it run. Glad you didnt, beautiful flying machine.

  • wow, memories, 20 years ago I enjoyed my shuttle zxx, thought I saw a little low rpm "shuttle shuffle" on lift off. Funny how things come back. thanks!

  • Hey Dave, that belt you broke should be available at your local sewing machine repair shop. I have sold them for years. Good video, Thanks.

  • Im 13 and you are my idol. Ps i wish i got free planes and helis!!!!!!!!!!:)

  • Hey! No train.

  • no gyro

  • 1 dislike comon

  • WOW! Persistance is a virtue! ....2 plus years paid off nicely! Must have been great when it first took off! ...sure flew stable! (I would say that it deserves a gyro tho) Nice work! Semper Fi!

  • He must have crashed it because the "landing" was the take off played backwards. He he he pretty tricky.

  • @briansmobile1 Haha. Not at all. I put a comment in the description box about hidden quirks. You got it. Good eye. Watch for more quirks in upcoming videos.

  • @briansmobile1 PS, it was not actually the landing, it was the picking up after the landing. Where do I send the T shirt?

  • @NightFlyyer lol I love your vids. If I had the extra cash I'd buy you an Align T-rex 500 You'd love it.

  • awesome video like always. your my teacher, thank you.

  • @lin350gg Thanks so kindly.

  • Haha I AM going to be a marine when I get older.

  • @matthewdiscovery1 It was not bad for me, and I am proud of it. Good for you. Semper Fi.

  • you should put out a turbine helicopter out there

  • @mihith Ah, sure.... What could go wrong?

  • @NightFlyyer im not a marine but..... Semper Fi man, Damn good job. but i have a question about my Syma S026G. i think theres something wrong with the battery, every time i go to charge it, the LED on the USB shows up after like, 15 minutes of charging and the instructions say 50 minutes! it gains altitude for a minute, but after about 2 minutes or so, it comes down to about an inch off the ground, any suggestions on what the problem could be other than the battery?

  • @NightFlyyer also, if it is the battery, any way you could make a video showing how to replace it? and/or direct me to a place that sells a 3.7V Li-Poly? appreciate it if you would respond to me. btw, my dads a marine, Semper Fi, Do or Die, Gung Ho Gung Ho.

  • Persistence pays.

Nice work, on the box and the chopper!

    And great song!

  • @NightFlyyer If you loose the engine on these gas helicopters, will the rotors auto rotate so you can bring it down safely?

Thanks for another interesting video Dave.

  • @locouk Well, in most cases, you can do it, but if your too close to the ground, or don't bleed the pitch off slowly, more than likely you would have a blade strike when it hits the ground too hard. In most cases, practicing autorotates are okay, but when something goes wrong unexpectedly, it is always a different story. Thanks for the comments.

  • Respond to this video... Each blade is on a flexible "feathering shaft". This allows the blade to flap up and down a bit during flight, making things smoother. Unfortunately, they are easy to have blade strikes with on rough landings.

  • I'm curious as to what you mean by "individual flapping blades". Great video!

  • @96sunvalley Each blade is on a flexible "feathering shaft". This allows the blade to flap up and down a bit during flight, making things smoother. Unfortunately, they are easy to have blade strikes with on rough landings. Thanks kindly.

  • @NightFlyyer Thanks for the answer. That's really interesting.

  • Hirobo made a new model for the that is called Shuttle 2 Plus wont the belt and the parts from the new model fit on the old one and you can use the spear parts for the new Shuttle 2 Plus fit on the Shuttle fron 85 and can be used in the restoring of the 85 Shuttle?

  • @RCMegaForce Most parts dont fit, but the belt might. I wasnt going to buy a new heli, just to get the belt, so I found an alternate way. Thanks.

  • may some of the capacitors are leaky thats why the voltage dropped. sir can i ask you the throttle and pitch curve setting.i am using futaba 6ex radio, and shuttle 30 heli

  • @mobagskit There are no capacitors in this simple circuit. The 12 volt battery runs the starter and also powers the plug through a big resistor. Voltage goes the least resistance and the plug goes out, even though the needle remains in the green. Most would think that it was okay, but as I found, it was a false indication..

  • Hi Dave, I want to buy a model airplane model p-47 thunderbolt. It's a good dart beginners? I'd love to get an answer. Before I'll fly the plane I think I'll buy the realflight simulator that if I crash better than it was just a computer and not the reality that I'm just beginning. And I'd love to know how you can put a kind of smoke machine on a model airplane. .Thanks in advance

  • @yoavravid1 P47s are nice and easy to fly. If your learning get a high wing and an instructor for the first flight to trim it out and make sure it flies. If it is gas, Higgley Smokers will work, But electric, I dunno.

Sims are all good for learning control movements and orientation. Aerofly 5.5 was voted the best for actual realistic flying, and what I recommend. It is German and Pricey though, but good for teaching. Good luck.

  • Always love your vids. Keep up the good work.

  • @barryperrins Thanks kindly for your loyalty.

  • my aurora 9 radio has all the type of swashplate types and my raptor 90 and 50 has a 90degree swash setup

  • @yittymitty11 Yep but it wont do any good when the pitch and throttle servos are tied together on the heli. Ajusting throttle curve sets both servos to move the same and vice versa. They both work.

  • Awesome Dave!!!!!!What memories man!!!! I have not been flying for 6 years.I still have my shuttle ready to fly!!!The only thing that i need is a new motor cause the os32 is quite dead! lol after 12 years of loyal service!

  • @Escapaque Thanks kindly.

  • i would of hoped to see some 3d but still awsome

  • @jiuop I think I went more than 3 directions....LOL, cause that is what 3D means, Simple stunts. I dont want to break my antiques, so simply enjoy flying it around. If you want to see me 3D, see my last Blade 400 3D video. Thanks.

  • efforts paid off, another succes ! Nice to see her up and running Dave.

  • @beverke7 Thanks very kindly sir.

  • Another good video NightFlyyer good advice as usual.

  • @hunter3333333 Thanks kindly. Many people ask for my 9 Helicopter tips (link is in my Bio) so I had to throw a few into this video.Wwe learned without crutches back when we were inventing all this stuff. Now helis are a walk in the park. I hope the folks get a glimpse of nostalgia, cause this heli was one of the best of the day. And this was before Windows and cell phones... Haha Thanks again.

  • @NightFlyyer Dear Dave I am a huge fan of your Videos Please Please Keep them coming!!! As for the HIROBO Shuttle Which I Owned along with a HIROBO Stork I cant belive how long ago that was WOW did you bring back memories!!!

  • Great video! I am very surprised it took you so long to figure out why the engine wouldn't start, my power panel has a dial which indicates the current that is going to the plug so I can tell immediately if it's not glowing, anyways, nice work

  • @bigbadbenable Yes, and this old one to has a meter. But If you watch carefully, the needle is in the green, even when the glowplug gets drained out, thus giving a false indication when I thought all was well.

  • You are a legend Dave! Great video, thank you for showing us the shuttle.

  • @grahamlwilson Gosh, I really appreciate that.

  • @NightFlyyer It looked like this heli has a Hex fitment for starting, why did you use a belt to start it? Also you should be able to get hold of a small glow plug wrench so you dont need to keepr emoving the engine to change the plug. As far as i'm aware you can also by a remote glow plug set up, so you dont have to make it yourself. Or did you do all this to show the difficulty involved when this heli came out?

  • and speaking of helis go search Modern Marvels - Helicopters

  • hurray for improvison and american ingenuity :D

  • another quality video from Dave Herbert.. well done Sir..!

  • @herdananto You are very kind.

  • do you produce all your backround music? ive always wondered about that :P

  • @mrperryguitar I try to. I have software, plus a YourRock Guitar and a Suzuki Q chord, so I have fun. Sorry about the mistakes. Thanks.

  • they need to already make a honda heli

  • I almost thought at first it was real big scale heli.. Dave do you ever fell brave enough to build one of those small 1 passenger mosquito heli and fly it?

  • @LTF85199 I have been considering building the full size Wallis AutoGyro, but not much else. I'm a bit old for too much excitement. LOL

  • @NightFlyyer I am seriously considering doing it.. but first I need to master rc helis without the gyros

  • @LTF85199 That is harder than you think. Be careful what you wish for...... : )

  • If you had it hooked up in parallels and not series i think it would give u the same power for the glow plug

but the power panel wont allow that

    MAKE HOMEMADE POWER PANEL!!!!!!

    lol

  • @flyingchimp99 This power panel is 25 years old and runs on a 12 v battery for the starter and a circuit for the 1.5 volt glow plug circuit. There is nothing in series. New power panels have regulators in them to prevent this. But I am using the 2 D batteries in Parallel for the plug and it is working just fine.

  • voltswagons are expensive lol

  • @RcUniverseGuy Yep, but not as expensive as Porsches! :)

  • i hate people that knows everything about everything, naw in jokeing,i just start'ed flying helis,i got a blade 120sr im just now starting to git the hang of it lol, your video about learning how to fly a heli helped a lot

  • @rednexRC I dont know everything, but have sure learned in the past 55 years of flying, lots of things the hard way, I try to pass it all on, so the new folks don't have as much trouble. Thanks kindly.

  • You are very patient Dave, hopefully i soon, will learn to be as patient as you

  • awesome...

  • @jrpie1215 Haha. Sometimes the patience wears thin, as it did on this heli, but the end result was worth it. Thanks for the kind words.

  • Hahahaha what a great story!

  • that is a nice heli
