@MrAbra23 Spanish is not only spoken in Spain! The second most spoken language in the world is Spanish since Central and South America and one fifth of USA/Canada speak Spanish. (if you don't count Chinese which is spoken mainly in China, one nation, English and Spanish are the most important languages to get by in a large part of the globe). German will never be mainstream because it's overly complicated and germans do not tolerate imperfect speech. Ask immigrants to Austria/Germany.

In addition I'm from Saxony-Anhalt and not far away southern of Saxony-Anhalt the Saxons speak German that noone understand. Immigrants who really want to learn the language often speak much better than Saxons, Bavarians or people from the north.

You also speak german in Tirol in noth-italy, the biggest parts of swiss and parts of belgium. There are about 100 million people who speak german as their mothers tongue. So in europe it is the most important language for the people themselves.
