  • Absolutely amazing!!!! What a great voice!!!! Judy garland had the most beautiful voice of all time!

  • Over. The. Rainbow. By. Judy. Garland

  • Judy was so ahead of her time.

  • Honestly? How does the topic of gays even come up in this kind of video. @FamGuyFreak100, why did you get so freaking riled up? And @mightydykerson, if you are trolling the guy, don't. Also, please stop with the homophobic comments. It's not helping anybody.

On another topic: I am utterly amazed at Judy Garland's performance. I really wanted to see her other performances, or of one where she actually sang in front of troops. If I ever find a video of that, I'd be so perfect.

  • Judy Garland is a great singer! who suffered so much pain.

I think you guys get ridiculous arguing who is gay or not! stop the ignorance! wake up to life! believe life is much more than fighting idiots! we all have the right to choose, each one is what you want to! life is short, so let's stop doing silly things and we LIVE!

  • gave me major chills all over :')

  • It's nice to have footage of a young Judy live on the stage, where she started her career. We didn't really get to see Judy on stage live until her concerts in the 50's and TV show in the 60's. She couldn't look more at home.

  • Notice how she smiles at the end...she nailed it and she knows it.

  • @vernieistooold i agree she nailed it ! she f---ing nailed it !

  • Thanks so much for this. I was a little girl when Judy Garland starred in The Wizard Of Oz. It always amazes me how young she was when she played that part and the way she sang this song. I agree she will never be equaled. The movie had everything, technicolor, imagination, quite remarkable fantasy film for the time, PLUS great philosophy-if you're not happy in your own backyard, you won't be happy anywhere else (paraphrased).

  • this is awesome!!!!

  • Wow, 29 people have no taste

  • 28 people who viewed this came here from a planet where good music makes you die.

  • @davivid make that 29

  • so just turned 18

  • it made me cry. dunno why :)

  • This song always makes me feel wonderful. The Wizard of Oz is such a huge part of my favorite childhood memories. I remember when the day came for it to be on tv it was such a huge deal...popcorn was popped...we were aloud to have soda and stay up like.......Beautiful song

  • This performance is by far her best.

  • Sometimes I wish I could of lived during this time. Its just amazing. and Judy Garland has this distinct lovely voice I wish I could have, its so unique and classic. Singers these days don't have this sound.

  • She was born on my birthday!! :)

  • Such a beautiful song.....god bless judy garland!!!

  • wow! emotional

  • God Bless America and God Bless Judy Garland!!!

  • su estrella siempre brillara en los cielos

  • How exactly can you dislike this video, they must be from under a rock or something.

  • Judy! What a show this must have been. Betty Hutton was also on the bill as la Garland.

  • "My name is Frances--you can call me Judy--and I have a habit of blowing your socks off and stealing your heart. But I REALLY have to use the bathroom at 2:44, so I'm going to be quick about it."

  • i love the sound of old recordings like that. makes me happy.

  • Bitch was my mom ..,

  • Classic..

  • @mightydyckerson What an ugly thing to say.

  • @jaytlr9 Whatever, fag.

  • @mightydyckerson Your mother didn't raise you to talk like that, did she?

  • @jaytlr9 Shut your whore mouth, buttfucker.

  • @mightydyckerson Really dude? Do you really have to be a homophobic ass? The only thing that's wrong with YouTube are assholes like you.

  • @FamGuyFreak100 I'd rather be an asshole than a flaming faggot.

  • @mightydyckerson And I'd rather be a Judy Garland fan than a homophobic faggot.

  • @FamGuyFreak100 You're the faggot, fudgepacker.

  • @mightydyckerson I'm not, but what if I was? So what? It's none of your business. I'm not personally affecting YOU.

  • @FamGuyFreak100 Of course you are, homo. Just come out of the closet already.

  • @mightydyckerson And tell me, why the fuck is a person a "flamming faggot" just because they like Judy Garland? Where is it set in stone that says "I love Judy Garland" = "I love cock!" NO WHERE! So get over yourself, you fucking asshole!

  • @FamGuyFreak100 Geez, you fags sure are a sensitive bunch.

  • @mightydyckerson Jesus. I don't have the time, energy, nor patience to argue with a boneheaded moron like you. I hope hope one of your kids or grandkids turn up gay. Have a good life, fuckwad.

  • @FamGuyFreak100 Not gonna happen, Frances. If I thought any of my kids was gay, I'd knock the shit out of them til they straightened out.

  • @mightydyckerson Have fun getting ass-raped in jail, then.

  • @FamGuyFreak100 Typical fag, always obsessed with butt sex.

  • Awesome a great song I can't listen to enough

  • why did she run off like that at the end

  • @MisterAlexP She had to take a wicked shit.

  • gosto muito mesmo desta nusica ela me deixa muito feliz mesmo e me faz sentir muito bem quando a ouço

  • Thumbs up if Selena Gomez brought you here!

  • Wow. Spectacular

  • she was only 20 wow

  • @karensharken This was originally broadcast in April 1943, so Judy Garland was 20 years old. (She turned 21 tthat June.) Unbelievable voice!

  • COMPLETE ARTIST AMAZING SONG!

  • The amount of patriotism Judy Garland felt for her country, and the amount of true belief she had in this song, a song that was written for her, is unforgettable.

  • Judy Garland can never be equaled or surpassed no matter now many singers come along to try

  • @bobkatfilbin she is in a glass of her own :)

  • This song has the ability to touch your heart

  • Sappy arrangement--too many strings--but Garland rises above it. She imbues the song with genuine sentiment, not sappy sentimentality.

  • she sounds very old, even though shes a bout 20 when she sang this xx

  • @raynicolem1 I heard a doctor on television once commenting that both Judy Garland and Julie Andrews had fully adult voical chords while still children and could sing with full range and depth at an early age. Wonder if that rarity somehow gives someone an amazing voice? I found it interesting, thought you might too.

  • @raynicolem1 I think she was an old soul.......and sent here for only just a short bit, to give the world a beautiful gift........and very sadly missed!!

  • how old was judy that time?

  • @karensharken 20-21ish? About 4-5 years after Wizard of Oz.

  • To the viewers: Please don't ask question aimed at the poster of this video, SpindleRecords, as Marc Bird, founder and poster, Passed away Jan 6, 2009. I am currently downloading the video's just in case something happens to this channel. His computer with almost everything on it crashed a week after I hooked it back up. Guess not using it for a year while I sold our house and looked for a new one wasn't good for it. I can't get on his page cuz IDK his password. Gonna put on mine.

  • @spindlechick This sounds legit, and I choose to believe it. Upvoted as well.

  • As beautiful as [Rainbow] is, it's almost poetically sad, given Judy's unfortunate drug-induced future (or lack thereof) and how this was sung just before WII, which meant for years, "it was the end of the Yellow Brick Road. No more rainbows."

  • No one will ever be able to sing this song this is her song JUDYS song i hate all the remakes that these people try to do i like to think that when judy died she took the song with her and whoever messed with it always got bad reviews we sang this in choir and everyday when we rehearsed it our teacher would always get mad and I would say thats because its Judy's song no one should tamper with it Judy brought something magical to this song that she obviously didn't want anyone else to have

  • CIN CIN PAPA' !!! Oggi 90 anni ;)

  • Really brings a tear to your eye, seeing this. As a singer, I can truly appreciate that little teeny, tiny breath she took before her last two words of the lyrics "...can't I." Look how long she held that last note, even with that small gasp of air. TRUE natural talent. And she was so young! Loved this video.

  • I had a friend long ago (RIP), that could sing this as well as she did. Still brings a tear for both Judy and my friend.

  • She doesn't actually know how many people love her, and what an inspiration she is.

  • Seriously, 23 people do not know beauty when they see it. Now, this isn't taped in a box studio, Judy is not miming this, like music today, but this was LIVE when she was alive. I love music like this and i am only 15. And i like old music, because it is better than Lady Gaga and Rhianna...

  • THIS IS WHAT REAL TALENT LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE!

  • absolutley breathtaking, there is no remake of this song that would ever EVER...EVER!!!!! compare to the original. it literally gave me goose bump's

  • Judy was & still is the greatest singer that ever lived no one else can compare to her talents and beauty.

  • This so reminds me of my grandma and great aunt and their WW2 sailors.

  • God, what a voice. A true angel.

  • I cry every time I hear this.

  • what a great voice without reverb or effects! No one can do that today

  • I LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!

  • I cry everytime I hear this song, and no one can sing it like Judy. She is the most amazing still till this day, I love her so!!!

  • In a word of re-verb and other studio magic pop stars should all have to listen to this so they cry at their own lacking. Singers of yesteryear were truly great singers

  • It's a real shame what happened to her.

  • What amuses me is that this is a nearly 70-year-old recordng, with all the limitations of recording of that time, and the inevitable decline in quality because there was no such thing as digital back then - and anyone with decent hearing can hear how this destroys almost all of the highly processed autotuned crap of today -even the recordings of artists who can actually sing. Judy was once in a lifetime.

  • @kroft67

I love that faint raspy sound of the old time records. I don't care how "digitally perfected" modern day music sounds. Nothing beats the classics!

  • @kroft67 I don't think I've ever agreed with someone more than when I just read your comment.

  • Amazing song by an amazing singer. Although I like some of the covers done today just because of the slightly faster tempo

  • Love this version but I have been looking for the one where she sings it directly to the troops i.e. a Bob Hope / USO show. She can barely keep it together looking out at all those young men about to go off to combat. Very heart-wrenching.

  • The Greatest performer that ever lived

  • I love her expression at 2:36. She looks like she knows she sang it with all she had. Knowing she nailed it!

  • 19 idiots are deaf!

  • This song was written especially for Judy by Harold Arlen & E.Y.Harburg. If She wasn't going to be cast as Dorothy they wouldnot have written it. They knew Judy had the quality & her style & the way her voice projected a " Longing" Quality. So I have to agree that This song should only be sung by Judy Garland. Anyone else just cannot not do it justice or make it their own. Ever notice when it's sung on TV or elswhere that people only think of Judy singing it & always compares it to Judy's way?

  • @NFitalianGuy they were almost gonna cast Shirley Temple as Dorothy.... I'm glad they didn't

  • Betweeb 1:45 -1:50 always chokes me up

  • ONE OF MY FAVORITE VERSIONS. Its as though you can hear her heart throb for this place "Over The Rainbow" Her eyes with that voice must have had the armed forces that listening to her, in tears.

  • Dowwnload the audio from this video at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • when the sailor goes into the new house it reminds me i got that question wrong on the test.

who wouldve thought the baby boomers came from all those houses for vets

nice ass house to get for next to nothing

    now the suburbs are trash

    fuckin 1950's

  • she's so tired here. MGM made so many movies so fast.

  • @east215 Funny how much work the MGM stars of this era were required to put into their career (many at such tender ages!), and how little effort most of today's stars put into their careers. It's actually sickening. Most any young Hollywood star today would throw a gold-encrusted tantrum worthy (and I use that term loosely) of tabloid articles if he/she had to put in that much physical--and mental--effort into show biz. I'll take "That's Entertainment!" over "Party in the USA" any day!

  • I can't help myself, I just gotta say I like Jerry Lee Lewis' version much better.

  • @Pumarisi124 Your mother obviously dropped you directly onto your deformed head, onto a stone floor, soon after you were born.

    Idiot.

  • The greatest vocal performance in recorded music history. Yeah, any questions?

  • Beautiful...

  • Awesome and lovely and gentle all at the same time. The best version by the best singer ever.

  • Her voice was deep for an 21 year old.

    She was really beautiful <3 <3 <3

  • Yikes! No autotune and she can still sing.

Also, gosh, she was tiny. So much voice from such a little thing.

  • they actually where gonna cut this song out of the movie but they didnt thank god or else we would of missed out on such great song and judy wouldnt be as legendary as she is now

  • Who in the heck are those 18 idiots?

    Must not have any friends.

  • most pretty of her career

  • a masterpiece of music

  • If this doesn't do it, nothing will. Where is over the rainbow? Must be Heaven!

  • 18 dislikes .... srsly people u suck big time :X this song is amazing ;p

  • nobody owned a song like this - before or since.

  • Mrs. Judy Garland, there she is very good, take it away, allright bye,bye

  • thank you for this song thank you

  • I grew up in the 60's I miss those days of real talent and the great shows that presented them.

  • the people that have done thumbs down are proberly jelous

  • Dear Judy, we miss you.

  • Maybe the greatest song/performance in recorded music history. Enough said.

  • So wonderful!! Maybe my grandpa heard her sing trhis song!!! Grandpa served with General Patton!!!! He told me and I am his grand daughter!!! He would have followed General Patton anywhere!!!! Thank you grandpa for helping the people in the concentration camps where the were killing the prisoners!!! He cried!!! had a teacher in hight shool say!! If you have anyone that served our country theb thet nust tell us!!!! Sorry grandpa you had to relive that horrible time!!

  • What a voice. Never to be another ...

  • Se me an puesto los pelos de punta al escuchar la cancion junto con esas imagenes....

  • I have to agree only Judy Garland can sing this particular song

just as no other than Barbra Streisand can sing "The Way We were"

    Thanks for posting!

  • The USO shows had a very very tight schedule to keep. It was so common to packup their things and move to the next stop on the tour. Judy looked very tired singing.

  • rip judy

  • What a rare piece of footage!! Brilliant. Forgive me for saying but she seems rather uncomfortable on stage and almost runs of at the end as if she cant wait to leave instead of taking the applause...is it just me? great song anyway thanks to the uploader.

  • @woodster1965 I noticed that too. It's almost as if she wanted to cry. Maybe the song was just emotional for her.

  • HOW can someone dislike this????? I don't get it!!! It is soooo beautiful!!

  • SPECTACULAR!

  • gänsehaut...

  • *faints* there are VERY!! few people who can sing this sone with the same level of brilliance as this remarkable women. I will forever be amazed :D

  • @GodSaveTheEmoz there is no one who can do it like her

  • only if music was still like this

  • i love her she has the best voice

  • She was the only truly talented singer in her era and genre of that time.

  • Shes so Beautiful!! God bless Judy Garland. May we never forget her voice!!

I forgot how much this song made me cry . . . in a good way :')

  • Amen to that brother!

  • Amazing! absolutely amazing

  • no digital enhancements. seriously such an amazing voice, it's kind of ridiculous how beautifully she sings.

  • Surely one of the, if the, most famous song of all time.

  • Ela parecia ser timida

  • Great, every time I hear this song I cry.........This time is no exception!

  • This was right before she began to physically and mentally fall apart because of pills. A shame.

  • Tack! BIS! There's no place like home.

  • God she was so abused. It breaks my heart hearing this song and knowing how badly she was treated.

  • this song made my heart sank and later it made me fly...

  • great sound quality, especially for a recording this old.

  • Dedicated to "True Americans" fighting for freedom in Europe, Asia and for us here at home. Then you have an ingrate like Obama's aunt saying we deserve to make her a citizen since we let her in and gave her all the "Freedoms" and "Financial Help" that these guys like my folks suffered and scrape
