  • I personally didnt see anything wrong with Speechless' INTERPRETATION of "Superstar" almost thought I was listening to E,L &P,,remember Hoedown?Fanfare? Lighten up...I have a classical background also...atleast they didnt do it REGAEE!!!

  • The whole argument about meter & tempo is pointless here, since we weren't trying to "carbon-copy" the original song. This is our interpretation of it, intentionally more heavy and faster, and besides that, I've never heard the original even to this day. I just played what I felt like playing for the parts. Lets not forget, Music is Art. If we all draw a tree the exact same way... were's the art in that? Where's the individual self expression? Where's the "originality"? Depends on what you like.

  • hey I played in that venue a month or so back! didn't play anything as cool as the overture though

  • If you see the drummer anywhere else, you will know his talent is actually incredible, and he is one of the best out there.

  • Yeah the drummer overdoes it but the weak link is the lack of timing/wrong notes with the keyboards. Slow down dude.

  • The drummer sounds like a pounding monkey. No finnese, no creativity, no room to build, just bang bang bang bang ! Uh...NO! There really shouldn't even be a solid beat going on this part, until the flogging part comes in.

  • @3eyedho We weren't trying to copy the song "exactly". This is merely our interpretation of it. And I've never heard the original. I just put my drum parts to what the other guys showed me. Sorry if it wasn't what you were looking for, but the folks there liked it, and that's what matters..... since they paid to see it. :)

  • captainbaptain is right. An Overture is a selection of all the first act of music, therefore the time signature will be the same in the overture as the original number, e.g. Superstar is 4/4 in the original number and in the overture.

    B5R5EN5N5D5A5N5 - The Temple/Leppers is in 7/4 ;)

  • Good - but it is 7/8, 7/8, 4/4, 4/4 in the "crucify him" section (not 4/4 all the way)

  • nope it's 4/4 all the way through

although many sections in the musical are 7/8 such as the temple and the lepers there isn't 7/8 in that part.

  • I think you better check the sheet music - if you can't hear that that is 7/8 I am surprised!!!!

  • It's undoubtedly 7/8.

  • "Good - but it is 7/8, 7/8, 4/4, 4/4 in the "crucify him" section (not 4/4 all the way) "

good heavens, they should have their tambourines taken away from them because their meter doesn't match your copy of the sheet music!

  • It's nothing to do with meter - meter is TEMPO - it's a matter of time signature and a matter of listening. If you know music you immediately hear the difference between 4/4 and 7/8 (by the way, I don't have the sheet music)

  • "It's nothing to do with meter - meter is TEMPO - it's a matter of time signature...If you know music you immediately hear the difference between 4/4 and 7/8"

man, you schooled me! sorry about my musical ignorance. it's a good thing i haven't been a musician for like 20 years cuz then you wouldn't get to be superior to me! i thought them doing the song this way throughout was a hint it was a purposeful choice, but, whatever. i'll just go back to my kazoo.

  • BTW quick tip - double check what "meter" is before telling people what it isn't. cuz - quick tip #2 - you're @ss wrong. it has nothing to do with tempo. and you can't know what "time signature" this is. it could be 52/52. all you know is a) the METER's different and b) it apparently makes your panties twist uncontrollably.

but thanks dudes who think they know stuff telling me I'm wrong when I'm right then saying something that proves they don't know what they're talking about never gets old!

  • @kumada84

Okay you are right - meter is not tempo, it's beats per bar - I will admit my mistake. You're wrong that I "can't" know what time sig this is, Yes, I can because I know the original. Listen to both and compare. Also, there's really no need for the smug barrage of sarcasm.
