I was curious as to what causes those mounts to go bad in the 1st place. Like you said, its a 4 cylinder engine & doesn't have the weight & the torque that the larger engines have. Is it just age? FL climate? Or is that truck a transplant from a northern state b/c I noticed some rust in some spots.
@Michiganborn1969 No it was always a florida truck, some light surface rust on the frame but nothing substantial. The mounts were original to the truck, over 20 yrs old, so yeah the rubber gets squished down after so long. Even tho it is not as heavy or torquey as a 8 cyl, they do still wear out.
@Michiganborn1969 anything from heat, cold, oil leaks, road grim, and general wear and tear can cause them to go bad. it's an overlooked maintenance issue.

Were your mounts making a knocking noise upon shutoff? and low idle?

@jedwards09elmira Not really, just the motor was shaking the truck around
