To use a Aliens quote" Did IQ's fall sharply while I was gone?" Why are they so shocked the bioroids had living pilots and are humanoids? Did they just forget giant Aliens based on out shared Genetic ancestors appeared of of nowhere 20 years ago and nearly wiped us out before joining us and explaining we're basically the same species? It's how we can knock boots and make babies like Dana after all. Rick and Lisa must have taken all the smart people with them on the SDF-3.
@Citrakite It was a problem with the translation: Originally, the scene was to reveal that the aliens (called "The Zor" in the original show) were using captured and brainwashed human soldiers to pilot the Bioroids. The Zor in this show wasn't a Robotech Master Clone Soldier, he was a human soldier captured and brainwashed and then de-brainwashed to fight for the humans again.
@ShadowSonic2 I know that part. The line just seems so out of place given space war 1 was only 20 years ago. They really messed up parts. If he was naturally micron sized instead of a giant or shrunk down like you'd expect the Zentraedi masters to use it might make sense they're so amazed.
I've been in the danger zone — yeah! — I've been in the danger zone east of the Pacific Ocean, west of London England, south of Mars, and north of Hell! Yeah!
I'm sorry, but the Chief of Staff (Rolf) kinda OUTRANKS the "Supreme Commander" (Kyle),and therefore CAN question the abilities of their fighting force! Why Rolf didn't tell him to f*ck off is beyond me!
@Octane64: Agreed. Actually I think Southern Cross has the BEST space battles in all of Robotech (with the exception of Macross' "Force of Arms" - that is the TOP episode of the entire series).
I'd say the best space battle (and definitely one of the BEST episodes of this series is Episode 18 (Mind Games). And it should be watched together with episode 19 (Dana In Wonderland).
The rewriting must have gotten hard at this point: They make a big deal over how Zor and his kind are human and not zentraedi, even though there's still little difference genetics-wise. Originally the big reveal was that the Zor aliens (their species name is "Zor") were using captured and brainwashed humans as soldiers.
@ShadowSonic2 The problems with the rewrite really show at this point. Southern Cross was by far the most bastardised of the 3. In order to link Macross with Mospeada it was heavily edited which explains why it doesn't make a lot of sense. By watching it many times, I realized that Zor was really a human pilot with the 15th who was captured and brainwashed by the aliens. This explains why the 15th takes him back and why hes' wearing a 15th uniform in all of his flashbacks.
@demoskunk When I realized this, everything else fell into place. "Zor" was dissliked by Eddie and Angelo because they considered him to be a traitor who had killed his former squad mates. That's why Dana tried to assassinate him. Nova was interogating him to get intel on the aliens (the Zor) who had abducted him.
He must've been an ace pilot, which is why they returned him to the 15th. The Zor knew this, which is why they made him their spy. This is why he wants revenge on the Zor.
@sleepyhollow783 ...not a causality of translation. Rather a poor choice of words. For the Harmony Gold version, a new story and dialogue was written for the Robotech series. Robotech is a combination of 3 different anime which are not connected storywise in any way.
All I know is that after this episode I'm going to enroll in Keller. Maybe I'll meet that woman riding the elevator.

Actually dialogue in later episodes makes it clear that the Supreme Commander outranks the Chief of Staff.

they haven't really bothered to show the masters view of this... that's a real weakness in this series.
it's gotten far better after a slow start but even with Minmay Macross was still better.

Since the whole script was rewritten to fit the Robotech storyline, I'd imagine it's just bad writing on account of the studio.
