  • Lost all my admiration ad respect for Gilmour and Pink Floyd when I found out they were Atheist's, thats alot of wasted years.

  • @LordEli

I've heard that first time now, and now I love, admire and respect them even more... At least they are not fools to believe in fairy tales.

  • @LeoMishkin You are a Moron, and the only ones believing in Fairy tails are the Atheist's and Evolutionist's that Human beings trying to put a stamp claiming they have all the answered which they do not nor will they not til they meet their Maker God himself. so you know go retard yourself elsewhere

  • @LordEli

Well, I didn't call you "moron" or "retard", I guess that talking ugly things about someone you don't know is something that just "good Lord's sheeps" and real believers do.

  • Eargasm!!!!

  • His voice gets sweeter as he gets older.

  • what song is this, like what type of music like instrumental is this

  • Awesome! Two of my favorite artists together.

  • ...David is in my eyes one of the greatest artists of the last 45 years ! 'and this gives life to thee ...' .

i adore him since 37 years ! LES ... my version of sonnet 18 can not stand against this ...

  • 26 stupid

  • @01didder You are right... and perhaps are deaf or ill from the head......

  • So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

  • Never thought I'd see the day when I'd be listening to Shakespeare on repeat. Incredible song

  • I shared this on Facebook, saying "It's not often your ears hear what you believe to be the greatest music you'll ever hear in your whole existence; but I know this is." And I always will.

  • Believe it's a Neumann u87 microphone. About 3 grand.

    Velvet voice...priceless!

  • Who wrote music for this piece?

  • @smokymcpot24 I would guess Gilmour wrote the music.

  • @smokymcpot24 Oops, I'm wrong.

  • we were in class reading this today, and my teacher brought up this video. and i was like " OMG DAVID GILMOUR! THIS IS TOTALLY AWESOME" everyone gave me the weirdest damn looks...

  • @pmizner same here. Hahaha.

  • i really, really, REALLY love it, and love him!

  • ♥ so schön!

  • Just Amazing! I love it... especially the to last lines of the sonnet :c <3<3

  • Simply AMAZING!!!

  • can anyone tell me what kind of vocal mic he's using?? thanks :)

  • i love his passion...it's contagious.

  • amazing...........................

  • songs of life... mint

  • The combination of this sonnet, this music and this scenery is wonderful!!! After watching this video we can feel the sonnet, it´s something that makes you feel lighter, feel the value and beauty of life. Just amazing!

  • It's really special to hear the poem sang by someone who is able to give life to it. It seems like if the meaning of the sonnet is clearer. The instruments playing also give a different aspect to it. The interesting stuff about this version is that even if someone doesnt't understand it, it feels like something good.

  • where is this fantastic studio? I wanna visit one day. Its like a paradise.

Gilmour is of the best artists ever

  • @RODOLUKOS It's David Gilmour's studio. It's a boat called Astoria and is on the River Thames near Hampton Court. He bought it because he liked the scenery and light into the studio.

  • 10/10

  • Copy and past "2012 sonnet wins competition" into search bar

  • The most beautiful voice in the world. And all you need to listen to really. I love you Dave. No one comes anywhere near you. Thank you scoobydino, peace to you.

  • I can't not express words enough to see all you people how i fell inside just by listening to this song... Words by Shakespeare... but heart by David Gilmour. Thanks David Gilmour for this!

    Sorry about my english!

  • I'm on a boat!

  • Magistral !

  • Shakespeare and Gilmoure...now thats a perfect combo !

Imagine Edgar Allan Poe and Roger Waters !

  • @Symph0nyZ

Now that is a fantastic Idea! I wiish I had thought of it. I would love to see it happen some day.

However Alan parsons who produced some Floyd albums relesed an album in the 70's with of some of Poe's poems

    set to music.

  • Astoria, Such a great idea, a studio on a barge.. stunning place..!

  • Instrument… beyond comparison

  • Imagine what you could get girls to do for you with a voice like that!

  • Gilmour, A true masterpiece. In writing, singing, and most of all his great Guitar playing. Thanks Mr. Gilmour for all the great music, for all of these years..

    Cheers.

  • Tears.

  • Love this to bits - so beautiful.

I am trying to find piano sheet music for Sonnet 18 as done by Gilmour - can anyone help. I have a post in on Michael Kamen's site but have had no reply yet

    Cheers

  • beautiful beyond words....i can only wonder how beautiful will a guitar solo by the man himself would sound in this song....

  • he actually look like ''just an old guy'' and not a famous person but he is so much better than most of the ''musicians'' today

  • This is from one Great dvd. May watch this very soon.

  • It is wonderful. The world is wide.

    Asuka from Japan

  • David has the most beautiful, serene voice I have ever heard.

  • great upload, yet another gem from gilmour, his music is timeless & his voice magically freezes all moments in time. Thanks for sharing, this is an amzing and unique upload, im happy to have met you. Shine On!

    Jake

  • I was at you as one of the first listeners of this wonderful piece. I wrote in Polish and you didn't understand me:)))

It passed three years and this song is for me adored:))

    WitoldGawryszewski - Poland :)

  • Davis is a pure genius!

  • Never paid any attention to Shakespeare till today. Wow.

  • This man... I have no words :) but I must say he's a much better singer now than back in the 70's. His voice is like a dream :)

  • Where can I download this?

  • (Rfom Argentina): Thank you, David!

  • If I could I would hire David Gilmour to sing me a lullaby every night. lol

  • speechless..gotta love gilmour.

  • who the fuck would sislike this?

  • @swiggar97 Seriously. I guess 25 Douchbags thought it's a good idea. It doesn't change the fact that this song is simply amazing. enough said. :) and i am sure you agree with that

  • @swiggar97 Honestly probably 90% of the world. It's people like us that notice such beauty in the world. Not all those bricks in the wall.

  • @diresword56762 "people like us"? You're probably a very nice person, but that is seriously a stupid thing to say. There is beauty everywhere, and you cannot like everything. Just because you notice that this is absolutely beautiful does not make you superior in any way, shape, or form.

  • @rwm28juni I wasnt trying to come across as superior or in anyform better than anyone. I agree that there it beauty everywhere. but as I said 90% of the world doesn't even realize or take to time to look at something or notice the beauty of something.

  • @diresword56762 again, that's not necessarily true. Everybody takes the time to find beauty in something, just not always Shakespeare. For example, I don't like abstract art, and therefore don't really see any beauty in it. That doesn't mean I don't take time to see beauty in it. No, rather, I see beauty in different things, like Shakespeare.

  • Listening to David's voice is like taking a magic carpet ride. Such beauty!

  • Listening to David's voice is like taking a magic carpet ride. Such beauty!

  • I like the part from 0:00 to 2:56

  • Been a fan for years and never seen him doing anything like this before, quite a spirit

  • 25 justin beaber fans jajajajajaj

  • I feel sorry for anyone who has never heard this song, simply amazing.

  • The Best, I <3 u DG

  • @dreamcaster555 Why do people like you always have to associate Floyd, or anything associated with them, especially something as beautiful as this, with getting high? Why don't you try to listen to it without being high, and I promise you it's just as good.

  • hm...25 people have a problem with the ears.

  • @majsterxxx or the head...

  • What else can you say but..PERFECTION as always from David Gilmour! Beautiful & inspirational...

  • he uses sony headphones..i want sony headphones!!

  • Why is he underrated? Everyone knows Pink Floyd and David Gilmour.

  • @TheEnoxum Because everyone keeps blabbing on about the Beatles when in fact Pink Floyd/David Gilmour is infinitely better. INFINITELY BETTER.

    I N F I N I T E L Y B E T T E R

  • @tteu123 Beatles are so overrated it's a crime. Everyone picks on Gene Simmons for mass-marketing KISS. Why isn't Paul McCartney ever labeled a sellout too? Granted, the Beatles are infinitely better than KISS could ever be, but it still doesn't excuse the fact that the Beatles had little depth and would be destroyed by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. It's not even a question.

  • @TheEnoxum Rating dont have anything to do with quality. Jieber is uberrated and dont have quality. Gilmour make music for those who can appreciate it, and those don't need advertising to get to Gilmour songs. Its my opinion why, I can be wrong...

  • He Always Is The Best

    He Is a Lord

    and I Love Him

The Best Guitarist The Best Singer The Best Rock Composer The Best Person

  • another way i shall teach myself to memorize this poem by tomorrow

  • Beautiful, People really dont know an acid rock singer or a guitarist in the Floyd can sing something so out of his box. Great sounding to me.

  • approval

  • Cant stop pressing the replay button :) so beatiful :) ♥

  • che posto!

  • This performance proves that in addition to being the greatest guitar player the world has ever known, David has the greatest voice as well. It's all about the tone. Simply amazing, and a great look at a very cool recording studio.

  • if the song has a solo, it would be one of my favorites

  • I'm listening to this high and it's amazing.

  • gilmours high notes are so beutifull

  • HEY, WHAT A STILL GREAT VOICE HAS MR. GILMOUR HERE, FULL OF TENDERNESS IN HIS SPLENDID RENDITION TO THIS SONNET BY SHAKESPEARE !

THANK YOU SO MUCH, COPASEAGULL, FOR HAVING SENT IT TO ME AND THUS SHARED.

    MUITO OBRIGADA,

    Minerva

  • @Magamiam eye and hes 60 years old. a voice of an angel

  • MARAVILLOSOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • btw you could buy a decent used car for that microphone he uses :)) anyway David is god if someone didn't know already:)

  • HE IS A GREAT MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song is just beautiful. Gilmour's voice is exceptionally warm and touching. But Bryan Ferry's version should be heard. The old rockers are just the best. Forever.

  • Just be clever like i have and hook your DVD player up to your pc and record the audio via Audacity as its playing and make a mp3 out of out. Easy.

  • @mrmrlullul unfortunately you suck dick

  • Really good, but I prefer the Bryan Ferry version. This was amazing, though.

  • beer belly, Got to love it, Its David/

  • @ltcurry every fair from beer sometime declines

  • @mrmrlullul and i think you're a fucking loser.

  • Magnificent vocal by David Gilmour, and perfect accompanying music by the late MIchael Kamen! The Bard would be proud.

  • Fucking commie cunt, Floyd's Red cover is now blown!

  • @edlpirateradio what?!!? ROFL

  • @6Man666666 It's very easy to write a song for children saying "we dont need no education" when you have a string of palaces and rolls royces. Did you not see what his brat of a son Charlie did attacking and vandalising the memorial to the war dead in London last week? Pink Floyd; a marxist group, polluted the minds of a generation.

  • @edlpirateradio Mmm I dont know mate- the Wall's lyrics was mostly Roger waters- he is an unhappy non conformist but I dont think he is a commie, as for children born of stars...well thats a whole diff kettle of fish. So many are just brats who never had attention and too much money.

  • Shakespeare and Gilmour rock!

  • es lo mejor noc antes no me interesaba sto pero kon David Gilmour no dejo de scucharlo es noc esa kosa que te falta para ser feliz =D

  • That is really beautiful, all it needs is for David to lay a solo with the black strat and it would be perfect. Just joking, I am not such a philistine as to really mean that.

  • 25 people hate boats and sonnets ..

  • This makes me love David Gilmour even more than I already do; which I thought was impossible. How cool is that floating studio~~~!!!!

  • How can anyone dislike this? What the hell is wrong with them?

  • @mrmrlullul Why do you say that?

  • Simply the best

  • Most underrated voice in rock n roll history

  • @Deppizzymo In Israel David number 3 in the List of the Best Male Singers of all time :)

  • @Deppizzymo Not underrated at all. That is just one of those stereotypical comments from "The Great Book of Youtube Comments Fit for Any Occasion".

  • @Deppizzymo underrated ?? guess we don't live on the same planet lol :)

  • Glorious. Is there no end to this man's talent?

  • This is one of Shakespeare's most beautiful sonnets, and this version sung by David Gilmour makes it even more amazing.

  • he is such a nighangle....oh my God.....

  • While i have given up trying to be Dave, i can still aspire for that damn studio! Wow is that ever unreal. Not fair Dave, Not fair at all.

  • I listen to this every day

  • We have been learning about Sonnet 18 and discovered this song. We really love this version of Sonnet 18 - it has helped us understand the meaning of the poem (and to discover and appreciate David Gilmour!)

  • rofl

man this is so incredibly gay

  • @DocL33t you obviously have no idea what yr talking about, so shut up!! who cares tho really? this piece of music is GREAT. it shows the beauty in shakespeare's words and lets them shine.

  • It's stunning. I have been a huge Gilmour fan for about 35 years or so. But this song reaches another level entirely. It's a real underrated piece of music.

  • I've always known the amazing poetry, but did Gilmour write the music to it? Pardon me if I sound stupid.

  • David you are my god!!!!! :)

  • he sings goodish but the melody does not go with the sonnet!!! and i love this sonnet.... i will be scard for life!

  • Beautiful beyond words.....
