@luv853okg no, epiphone does not make knockoff les pauls. Epiphone is owned by Gibson, so it makes a less fancy, more affordable guitar. That's not necessarily a knock off unless Epiphone had tried to copy the Gibson Les Paul.

None of them are over or under rated. Maybe LP is under rated in the EVH camp, and vice versa but music is NOT a freakin' competition!!!

And EVH is as a matter of fact MUCH more than fast. He's not very fast at all compared to some speed specialists. He's just a great guitarist. So is LP!

@DaAzisum Van Halen isn't good, he's great. If you think Eddie only brought fast tapping to the table, you obviously don't "get" the music. Les Paul is a more technical picker, but what he does is merely human. When I listen to Les Paul, I feel we are from the same species. The runs and embellishments and whatnot are cool and mature, but they are easy to grasp. Eddie is from a different planet. You can spend months just trying to imitate some six easy notes from VH to nail the right vibe.

Do keep in mind, however, that Leo Fender didn't play guitar like Les Paul did. He was a phenomenal guitar player. If you search for "Les Paul Chasing Sound" you'll find a great documentary about him. The whole thing is on Hulu and it's on YT in pieces.
