This was the first video game I ever played. Nostalgia is such a beautiful thing.

This opening sequence was some of the best camera work I've seen in a video game. The camera follows Aeris out of the alleyway and down the block a piece, panning back to establish the neighborhood then pulling up and out of Sector 8 to give you an awesome aerial shot of Midgar; reactors venting drive plasma and search lights tracking around the ShinRa Building. Then its back down onto the train platform where you're tossed right into the action. The musical score is the icing on the cake.

@Gilmoreboy2007 Hours...and Hours...of grinding. Make sure Barret doesn't kill anything, because in order to get x-1 Limit Breaks, you need to kill a certain amount of enemies (roughly 150?-200?). The enemies have a high enough potion drop rate that they can sustain you indefinitely. You need to use your x-1 Limit Break enough times to earn the x-2 Limit Break (roughly 6 to 8 times).

I think Final Fantasy 7 was the last great game in this period from Squaresoft. This, plus Chrono Cross and Xenogears. Final Fantasy 8 just kinda ruined it for me, then Final Fantasy 9 resparked it - which was then killed by Final Fantasy 10.

I don't know if it was the time or just game itself, but there is not and will never be anything like going through this game the first time. Some of the things were completely unexpected, just the whole concept of the game is damn perfect. I remember playing a demo of this for for psx at about age 7 or 8 and was instantly hooked as soon as I played. People can complain about graphics now, but back then these graphics were considered state of the art. They are not bad at all.
