My husband & I took this cruise for our honeymoon December 10-17,1989 aboard the Song Of America, it was absolutely beautiful, we will never forget it, the trip of a lifetime!!
I boarded this ship on May 7th, 1989 and met a Canadian girl - married the following February. We loved this cruise and have been on a few since but none of them have compared to the Song of America. Thanks for the memories! (Loved seeing the Can Can Lounge - that's where we met.)
I was looking at RCCL to see the new ships and found no Song of America there. Every other one is so big and I remembered how the Song was just the right size. I sailed it May 1990 and to me it was the perfect. I remember sitting at the bar at the Compass deck as it did a 180 leaving the Mexico port at sunset, Just Beautiful. Thanks for putting this up, you were there right after us and your photos told her great story with RCCL. I hope Thompson will treat her well. Great Job...Thanks.
this is one of the best ships in existence - i've travelled on freedom, on qm2, on ventura - but nothing beats coming home to this ship. Just booked for august in Thomson Destiny guise. I knew it as the Sunbird, so thanks for sharing the pictures of this ship in her original livery.
Thank-you for making this video. My first cruise was on the Song of America, July 17, 1988. Cabin 2088! I was 17 years old and I knew 1/2 way through that cruise that I wanted to be a travel agent! 22 years later I still am! We were lucky enough to sail on her six times before she left the RCCL fleet. The ships are bigger and better now, but NOTHING will ever compare to this old girl!
This is great!!!!!!!!!! We went on our honeymoon on 10/3/87. I was an eastern caribbean cruise. It was my first cruise, but it has been the best. We have been on many cruises scince, but this is the one we compare them all to!!
My wife and I sailed to Bermuda on this wonderfully romantic ship in the fall of 1993. It was the day after we were married, and the captain seated two other couples who were married the same day at our table. He also bought us 3 bottles of champagne. The staff was accomodating and attentive in every way, and Bermuda was simply exquisite. What nice people, both on the island and on the ship. Thanks for taking us back.
My wife and I sailed her for 7 days on her Western Carribean route back in 1987 (belated honeymoon cruise). We've sailed many of the mega-ships since then but we will always remember the SOA as our dream cruise. Hands down the ship and crew had more class and character than any ship we've sailed since.
Lovely video of bygone yrs, Myself and my soul mate Wife will be Boarding this old lady in April for 2wks to Caribbean under her new name Thomson Destiny :)
Great Video!! My wife and I sailed twice on the "Song Of America". Once on the same cruise as this video in 1989 and too Bermuda a few years later. Both cruises were great as was the ship, it was beautiful and just the right size. If I'm not mistaken she was voted the ship of the year a few times. It's a shame she was sold. Cruise lines say they can't make a profit with the smaller ships. Thanks for sharing your memories.
Thanks for the memories. She's still a great ship. My wife and I had a Mediterranean cruise on her in 2004 when she was sailing as Sunbird. She has since been re-named Thomson Destiny and we sailed on her around the Canary Islands in 2007 with our daughter and her partner. Two wonderful holidays.
Great video, brings back such wonderful memories....I met my husband on the SOA in 1992. He was our Head Waiter and I was a passenger and your video brought back such fond memories of where we met. Our kids enjoyed it as well. Thanks so much for posting it!
Nice video! My wife and I took a cuise on the Song of America for our honeymoon back in October of 1987. Beautiful ship! Big back then, small by today's standards.
