@Fontzilla All cobweb spiders make cobwebs that by their nature are messy, unlike the sheetweb, funnelweb or orb web weavers do. It's just their nature to be messy and in two cases (Brown Recluses and Widows) Toxic! Thanks for posting this. I like he dish water solution, it suffocates the spiders, it is better than fighting toxic creatures with equally or more toxic chemicals.
@tomestubbs Yes, we'd rather not use toxic products unless absolutely necessary. With soapy water, it won't kill them instantly, and that can freak some people out, but it will work. We do make sure to really soak them. As to widow webs, they're also really, really sticky. Don't know if you saw my video where a small snake was caught in a widow's web. It was truly amazing. And we've seen lizards get caught and unable to escape before being bitten.
I have them all over my yard. It's unbelievable how quickly they multiply. I'm nervous letting my kids play outside because they are everywhere. Does it seem like they force out the other types of spiders to you?
@KingBlumkin They definitely multiply. We do get spiny orb weavers in our yard, too, as well as your basic daddy long legs-type of spider. So I don't know if they're chasing away others. Since the weather turned cold, we haven't seen too many widows on the porch, but I'm sure they'll be back. I can understand your hesitation to let your kids play out in your yard. I don't know if any pest companies can offer a solution.
@Fontzilla Brown Widows do chase away other species of spiders, Brown Widows in the US are an Invasive Species and they were not initially native to the US
Cob web weavers make webs like that.
