This was the first game I ever played. I like Civ3 much, much better, but despite having both installed I still go back to Civ2 once in a while. Just the pure, unmatched nostalgia I get while playing it.
@Resolution1983 i actually bought Civ 5 a couple days ago with Steam. i got a good deal, so i was like, why not? i've played for about an hour so far and it's actually pretty fun. i like the interface, and some of the new features are very different but cool concepts. i still think 2 and 4 are better :)
@Resolution1983 yeah, i totally agree. i mean, Civ 4 was great as well, but i just don't think it had that same magical quality to it. it isn't as timeless as this game. i haven't played them, but i ehard that Civ 3 and 5 were no where close.
this was such an amazing game. so good that i hardly even care about the extremely repetitive music. this game was AMAZING and i'm glad to have had a chance to play it. i still do from time to time :)
Civilization II is the best, and I loved the music for building the wonders in your city with a short video showing a bit of history about it, just beautiful. Loved this game. PC version with its two CD's is the best, was worth the money spent on it.
@JSSJR90 It's a good thing you learned to love history. You would have still remained a barbarian Warrior while everyone else has Modern Armor, Modern Paratroopers, Mech Infantry and Radar Artillery!
I'm tempted to reinstall it, but I'm afraid it will ruin some of my dearest gaming memories. I used to play this as a kid and my parents wouldn't let me play for too long so each game took weeks to win. Was it in this one that you could basically surround every city of your opponent with military before declaring war and wipe them out in one turn?
Oh and Leonardo's workshop.....talk about a game-breaker.
@8394147 Bit like saying that since Civ6 will eventually come out, there's no point wasting time on Civ5. Did anyone stop listening to Sgt. Pepper when Abbey Road came out?
@steveasat2 No, it's like watching a 5-inch black and white antenna TV when there are HD flat screen plasma TVs out. Civ 5 is officially out and on sale now. Everyone go buy it!!!
Civ 4 definitely had the best intro. I wonder how much they paid to get Leonard Nimoy's voice (since he's probably got the most recognizable voice in the world?)
I think an oblique reference to his Spock character would have been in order there. Something along the lines of "Live long, and prosper," when you found your very first city. Certainly cheeky, but I can imagine it working.
Sid Meiers is probably the inventor of the best game in the history of gaming, cause civ 2 a game from freekin 1995 (correct me if im wrong) is still addictive!
Careful there. Sid may have his name on the box and created the original Civ but if anyone should be credited as being the master of Civ2 then it should be Brian Reynolds. Says so right there in this video even at 1:20
Civ 1 and 2 still hold my hearts in the long run... even though 3 and 4 are both very fun too. Civ 2 had the best scenarios, though 3 had the best editor. Civ 4 is fun, but it seems like they try to do a little to much.
I remember the first game of Civ 1 that I won (I was between 6 and 8). My nemesis had always been the Russians. I remember that I was the French, and I conquered the world... and the last to fall was the Russians, but I got to nuke them! Civ II came somewhere aound that time.
This must be the US version, the UK Civ 2 was different.

Uh, an intro that shows nothing about the actual game? Way to cleverly advertise it :P

Was anyone else a nerdy a civ2 player as me?
I used to rarely start wars just focus on large expansion. I cared more about having a better science rate.

Definitely a great game intro. I loved the "world keeps on turning vibe" it had.
