Yeah, the GM Ecotec - turbocharged with direct injection, producing 260 HP. Not sure on the Karma's output when it's combined with the electric motor.

Wonder why we're seeing cylinder deactivation and direct injection, but not together in one engine. Combine the two with BMW's new system to kill engines at stops (even on NON-hybrids), you'd wring a lot of extra MPGs out of an internal combustion car.

The GM gas engine only charges the batteries while the the electric motor propels the car, which is much more efficient. The electric motor is rated at 408 hp along with a ton of torque, although not stated in the specs.
