@kingoliver45 I'm gonna go with Frank Sinatra as a personal preference in some songs, like Moon River for example. But other than that Louis Armstrong has a certain charm to his voice that nobody else has ever had. God hasn't blessed this world with anyone that even compares to Louis when it comes to touching people's hearts with his voice and wonderful melodies (maybe sam cooke who died too soon).
The song is so great, it outshines all of that racist nonsense going on in the background (the Aunt Jemima 'mammy' holding a giant piece of chicken, later giving it to a black man who devours it like a hungry slave).
This soundie is sort of the MTV version of racial stereotyping in its imagery. It's almost better handled by closing your eyes and listening to the music.
But what is interesting about this one is that Louis himself, who gets accused of Uncle Tom-ism, looks dead serious about his music on this one.

I would try to contact phoebe Jacobs directly at the archives. She is probably the biggest louis Armstrong fan in the world. She might know something. Just thought you might want to know.
You don't have to make up your mind. You can enjoy them both. How lucky!
Beautiful performance by Armstrong. A shame so much of his early films have the Hollywood racial stereotypes. My favorite early Armstrong films are the ones he made in Denmark -- no added hokum, just Louis & his band. He had to go to Europe for anyone to have the sense that Armstrong performing was interesting enough to film.
we are looking for a recording of this with louis singing and accompanied only by a theatre organ. We heard it on a NYC radio station in the 80's so it HAS to be aroun somewhere!
Get out!!!!! I have never heard it!! If you find it please contact me the second you do. I just recently found so
e recordings of his from 1933 that were rare but that wasn't one of them. It's not listed on any of his discographys. What you should do is contact the louis Armstrong house and archives in queens and ask them. I bet if there is such a thing they might know about it. I wish you luck!!!!!
I just saw a great documentary A Masterpiece By Midnight a Ken Burns film and there was a nice selection devoted to Lous Armstrong and he was saying right before his death in 1971 this was his favorite all time song RIP Satchmo great song.
this is incredible. listening to that opening lick of pops' solo is one of the most relaxing things iv ever heard-not to mention being one of the most relaxing songs there are!
Muchas gracias por compartirlo.

Does the archives in Queens have a contact through the internet or do you know the address if they need a written contact? Thanks.
