gosh, hearing you talk about your grandma made me realize how much i take mine for granted. she's not well either. and i've been avoiding thinking or talking about it. i would be devastated if i lost her.
I think you are strong as she was. My Grandmother was awesome as well. That video made me cry. But she's always there even if you can't see her. You have taken chances with your life and that takes alot of strength.
That was a beautiful story, thaumata. Your grandmother sounds like an admirable lady. The way she handled herself reminds me of my mother before she died of cancer. Always trying to see the bright side and protecting everyone else first.
You know the reason why you still miss her even though your brain should know that she's gone? You miss her with your heart. And in your heart, she'll never be gone.
Hey its good to see another video, I enjoy listening to you talk and well your grandma sounds like she was a awsome person strong will and well you have the same qualities in you, I hope you learn your spanish and well start buying the right stuff from now on. I know you are haveing fun take care and can't wait till the next one.
Watched many of your videos today...this one was the last...I could barely make it to the end, so sad.
Gramma Dot sounded like a wonderful person. It's easly to see how much she meant to you. She would be very proud of you...and, don't stop talking to her.
Hey Amy, you have great inflection in your voice. I really like your vid blogs. Don't worry too much about learning the language. I found that you pick up the essentials of a new language within just a few weeks.
I Miss you amiee! Tell us where we can watch you when you come home and start the walk or finish the walk or whatev....
i miss my grama too, remember i told you bout playing scrabble when i chose Mason's name? Man, that old broad is one of my favorites, i think we'll go see grama rita tomorrow. xoxoxo love you, miss you, etc, and masey says hi (and we made pepper steak today)...
My grandma is mean and I don't like her. I stay as far away from her as I can. Sure wish I had the nice, tender experience of having a grandma. Oh well, at least I have a great mom! I don't think I'll miss my grandmother. That's the truth. She's caused so much pain.
I only came across youtube a couple of days ago and stumbled on your videos at about 7.30 this morning, its now about 12.45 and i've watched them all, Your truely an amazing lady and thank you for sharing parts of your life its been a priveldge and a pleasure. I look forward to seeing more.
Hey, Aimee! I really enjoy watching your videos - you're such an inspiration for so many people! I can't believe how well you kept yourself composed while talking about how much you miss your Gramma. I lost my Gramma 2 years ago, and I was fortunate enough to have a smiliar relationship to yours. It's very devastating to lose the one person you can always depend on and talk to, and I still cry when I miss her. You had me in tears! :)
I really was speakless after seeing this video. It really brought back memories of my maternal grandmother, who helped raise me while my mother and father were at work. It's been 16 years since her passing and all I can tell you is the love lives on....
Hey ive just watched all of ur videos and i think ur cool its amazing what ur doing with the walk and having the courage to go to a foreign country and just live there like u have, i couldnt do that lol! Anyways i hope everythings going well, you rock! :)
Amy, I lost my Pop's just over a year ago and I cannot count the number of times I've reached for the phone to call him nor can I begin to recount the way he's touched so many lives. Your tribute to your Grandmother was without doubt one of your best videos so far. It was courageous, spirited, heartfelt and compassionate. God Bless. J
Thank you so much for sharing stories about your grandma. In one way or another I bet everyone of us who sees this video can relate to it in some way. You really touch peoples' nerves with the way you speak and how honest your are. Take care.
wow. I think youtube's taking a more "mature" (elderly) direction. My grandparents are all dead and I remember their funerals more than I remember them. That's not true, I sort of remember them too. I always wished I lived closer to my family.
When my dad was a kid, my grandma gave him and my aunt (his sister) each a nickel, and told them to go to the store together and each buy one pack of napkins. My dad asked, "Why don't you just give 10 cents to one of us to buy two packs?" She said, "Because at 10 cents, they'll add a penny tax." (the Great Depression). Grandmas are great.
Thank you for sharing. Ya know, the greatest tribute you could give to your Gramma is to keep on living life to the fullest. And it looks like you are.
Wonderful story about your grandma. I do suspect that being so close to her and a role model to you, that you will be just as strong in life. P.S. if you get a 10 star rating on this video, be advised that they may have YouTube in heaven.
I fought so hard not to start crying when u got all teared up. I know its hard losing anyone u love, just be thankful u got the chance to get to know them. I only have one of my grandmas that I've ever known. No grandpa's .. no great grandma's or pa's. And just so u know .. and im sure im not alone on this ... u do have the same strength as ur grama. And its an amazing thing ur doing (walking
)! Congrats! Im inspired by you to be a better person!
This was beautiful, Thaumata. Thank you for sharing your memories of a great woman.
I lost my dad a couple of years ago, and he had similar medical experiences, eventually losing his ability to move on his own. He really went through it, and it was hard to watch.
I still have a voice mail from when he could still barely talk, but I can't stand to listen to it.
Man, I would give anything to have a voicemail from Gram still. I'd probably listen to it all the time. Hanging in there until the end is hard, but I have never been sorry for it. Much love to you.
You've inspired me to plan to do videos about my grandparents, the ones I knew. Though, my stories are not necessarily as close of a bond, or the fact that there were interruptions in creating those bonds, I want to make a video or two anyway. :) thanks for sharing about your grandma Dotty!
You've already you're stronger than me. I couldn't be there at the end for the people I loved that sufferred that God awful disease. I sure as hell couldn't have sung at their funerals either.
Man... it was absolutely the hardest thing I ever did, but you know, I knew I could do it because she wanted me to, and I did. And since then, I have known that I can do anything. You have to take the good with the bad in most situations. Remember that.
It was very touching to hear you speak of your love and memories of your grandmother. I lost my grandmother about 3 1/2 years ago to colon cancer at the age 88. I was 34 at the time and she had always been a second mother to me. I can so relate to your saying that you are still not used to her not being around. It still doesn't feel right.
Yeah. Every day. I just try to remind myself about all the other people around that I would miss if I didn't have. When I miss gram, I try to spend some time with them. xo
I think alot of your grandma's enthusiam (and strenghth) wore off on you. I can relate about your grandmother, mine had a masectamy (due to breast cancer) but still said she couple pick up guys as long as she did not stand to close to to the street light.
I'm really sorry that ur grandma died, my grandparents died last year, and i felt the same way that u felt. They always had that spunk but when they suffered strokes, it really destroyed me when i saw them helpless, when our eyes connected, i knew wat she was saying to me, that this was her time and she wanted me to let her go. Anyways, this is just another way for me to relate to you to say that ur not alone when a loved one dies
Thanks. Stroke is hard to watch, too. I used to have a lot of patients with stroke when I was in the Drs. office. In a lot of ways, you feel relieved to know they're not in pain anymore. And people like you help a lot, too. Thanks.
I didnt REALLY know my grandmothers, except through what felt like obligatory visits, which really, is more a reflection of where my head was at at the time than about them. My fondest memory of 1 of them was the joy she got talking about and sipping really good martinis. Sweet vid. TY
Hahaha... yeah! I remember my dad's mom always drinking beer at dinner, and how strange I thought that was because we never had beer at our house unless there were PARTIES.
Truly inspirational and it seems that your grandmother lives in you not only in memory but in deeds as well. That being said, I question the truthfulness of this story. I do not believe that a boy could leave such a beautiful, charming, intelligent woman as yourself. Well, maybe he realized he was not worthy and left to hide his shame. That has to be it:)
I'm staying until almost christmas, and then who knows. I miss the states, though. You know they don't eat burritos here? I am making them for dinner tomorrow and they don't sell SOUR CREAM here. OI!
Oh, psh. I'm only semi-cute at best. And have my movies gotten so popular that first comments are bragging rights? THAT is highly entertaining to me. hahaha.. thanks.
Come back to us Amiee.. we miss your videos! If anyone reads this pls go to all of her videos and ask for her return to YT.. The girl rocks..
Thank You!
