I'm still confused about this last part of the movie. Why does Fisher's subconsious make him believe his actually said he was disspointed he tried to be like (that he loved him)? Surely this only makes sense if they planted the windmill in the safe as part of the dream architecture and Fisher saw the windmill FIRST. But his father speaks first. What actually makes him believe that WAS what his dad said? Surely they need to forge/fake the father?
@SuperSparkyMark1 The point of the dream was not to make Fisher believe what his father said but to introduce the idea that he must sever his ties from his father as just the instrument of his father's ambitions of a global power and to seek out his own destiny as a person. The dream was meant as a movie to help him highlight what his own life is and to help him grow as a person. It was meant to stimulate something in his subconscious to influence his decisions.
I love listening to "528491" on my iPod alone but whenever I'm at a computer I always play this video. The background dialogue and noises from the video just enhance the experience that much more!
The sad thing is this is all made up by Leo/Cobb. His dad WAS dissappointed in him. He did want his son to follow in his foot steps. Be a man much like himself.
In one word-genius. Inception is the my second best movie I ever saw.
The best is the dark knight.
I guss that no one here can argue with me that cristopher nolan Is a genius and each one of his work it's a fuckin master piece.
The same thing about Hans zimer.
This tow guys are simply born to do this job and in everthing that connected to cinema they are my favorite. And from my view of point-they also the best.
I love how in Fischer's mind he got his catharsis and realized that last ray of hope that his father actually loved him but in reality his father didn't. Its just his disillusionment. It adds a very sad twist to Fischer's end. Best movie ever
This scene is wonderful. A dying father's words can shake a son's foundations, and to truly understand how much a father really loved a son can tear you apart and change your life. This scene always brings tears to my eyes. It reminds me of my beloved father.
I always like the little camera shake in the long shot when the door opens in front of Fischer and pans in. Makes it seem like there's still a bit of reality present in the dream world.
Yeah. I almost cried at this scene. I'm not a crier, but the rest of the movie had blown my mind to smithereens and I had no emotional control left... Oh I loved it.
Very similar to the Dark Knight and Batman Begins OSTs, but in his defense it is for the same director, so he may request similar music. Also every artist has a "style".
I love how the entire movie is resolved by Fisher seeing the spinning toy, leading his sub-conscious to conclude and accept that his dad did care about him, and just wanted him to make something better out of himself. Absolutely brilliant! :-)
Being someone who always had alot of expectations from my family, this was insanely touching.. I actually had a dream about this, months after watching the movie, which made me search for the scene.. "No, I was disappointed that you tried..".. Insane chills, got quite emotional
This scene is emotional as fuck (I mean that in a good way). Nolan's critics have accused his movies of being cold and lacking emotion. Whilst I personally don't like saccharine nonsense that manipulates the audience into tears at the end of every movie, I guess this scene answers his critics in part.
When Fischer's dad told him he wasn't disappointed in him but disappointed he tried to be like him.....was that what he really said in real life or was that just part of the inception to show that his dad really did love him?
Inception is my all time favorite movie! Also on my favorites list is; The Dark Knight, Memento, and The Prestige. Christopher Nolen is freakin amazing!
This is the best scene I have ever seen in any movie, and the saddest. I cannot express in words how I feel right now, even if it's all fake. This is just beautiful.
@1311dellman when Eames spies on the son for the first time, you see the dad knock over a picture. the picture is him and his son bonding over a windmill that they made together when Fisher Jr. was a kid. but the son thought his father, Fisher Sr., didn't care because "he didn't even notice." the windmill was supposed to show that the dad loves him. thus, the positive emotion Cobb wanted to put in Fisher Jr's head.

The score for this scene fits perfectly. If Hans Zimmer doesn't win an Oscar for this soundtrack there is no justice in the world.
