I was not reffering to you, but to ppl in common. I agree; the world is a cruel place.. and it aint much we can do except trying our best.....man, im sounding like a buddhist now, but what the heck 17 years in Thailand must leave some marks :)
@Skalmans750 Nothing wrong with adopting the Buddhist philosophy. A contradiction in Thailand seems to be the way they treat animals yet one of the five Buddhist precepts is not to cause pain to living things.
@Pharangbah During the floods i spent weeks helping mother in law up in Nakhon Sawan and even in crisis the greed takes overhand. 1 of the villagers had an old boat, he charged his poor neighbours 400baht for a 300meter transport to the nearest grocerystore wearing a buddha around the neck....even though im used to it, it makes me wanna trow up everytime this ugly side of the Thais appears.
@Skalmans750 Thailand is the most amazing country in the world and I love it but sometimes I despair with what I witness there, the abject poverty and the failure of the state to protect and care for its own kind can leave you feeling very ambivalent. You need to keep an open mind in Thailand at all times, all you can do is keep doing good things, maintain good karma and hopefully make the world a better place. I will love Thailand forever, it rocks!
It's sad that Thailand Zoo's are exploiting tigers, they are one of the most endangered species in the world, there was a international conference during November in Russia about the threat of extinction of wild tigers. There are less than 3,200 tigers in the wild now, with the current threat of poachers and deforestation, tigers will become extinct in 2022, ironically the year of the tiger. My preference in protein choices hardly seems relevant.
Tigers kept in Thai zoo or "farms" is very often drugged. Some get their claws ripped out of their paws so that they wont risk to hurt the "source of income" and to become easy to handle.
Im happy to see that many travelangencys recomending their customers to avoid this kind of atractions.
@Pharangbah Thais are using the Tigers popularity for pure selfishness...money direct down their own pockets. This is supported by Tourist whos doing this thinking that the money goes to protect the Tiger. Thailand has recieved alot of critisism from abroad about the mistreating of animals .
The common tourist have no knowledge about this, and can not be blamed for visiting these places. Therefor im happy that the travelagencys warning ppl, it will benefit the tiger in the long run.
@Skalmans750 I am not ignorant to what really goes in these kind of places! Tell me something I don't know? Thailand has a poor record when it comes to the treatment of animals, the Western world has a poor record when it comes to invading and bombing other countries and killing innocent people. The world is a horrible place a lot of the time, what can you do?
