  • what is thermite for ?

  • Is it good Aluminium even if it is mixed with small amounts of stearine?

  • @gayle05girl dose it have to have the magnisiem strip

  • @PC0COOL0KID To light thermite you need a fuse that can reach verry high tempratures and one of the things that burn hot enough is magnesium. There are other substances that can do it but they choose magnesium (think it's the easiest to get a hold of).

But to awnser your question, no it does not have to be magnesium.

  • wow i can be just like frost on mw3 now :L hahahaah

  • can i use a sparkler(s) instead of the magnesium strip.

  • @captain131295 I think you can. Should get hot enough to ignite the thermite

  • @2009WOA Ill test it with a gram/half gram test. And let you know

  • LMAO! Of course they used a red bull can

  • thermite is very dangerous, it can burn in excess of 4800 degrees celcius

  • will thus work the same if i use a sugar free red bull can?

  • How much thermite was that

  • LOOKS LIKE TWIN TOWERS

  • A thermite device is supposed to have airspace underneath it with a vent to allow the thermite to reach maximum temp before melting through anything. Look it up in the army field manuals. Try this experiment again with some space underneath the device, it will be hotter.

  • Can you use spherized aluminum for thermite instead of the dark?

  • @southparkkid07 axes may be dangerous but they are a lot easier to control then explosives and other pyrotechnic devices such as thermite

  • @LegendaryProjects It's called Darwinism. It helps keep our gene pool from being totally inept. That being said. Fire extinguisher.

  • @Thorovain fire extinguisher isn't going to do any good against thermite. you don't put thermite out once its going.

  • @southparkkid07 it may not pose a big threat to the federal government but it is still realy dangerouse.

  • MAAAHAHAHjb uhertuhrur

  • so thats how you make redbull

  • @southparkkid07 plus its used in industry for welding.

  • @ELITEHAMSTER123 idustrial welders take extreme precautions due to the danger level of thermite. plus they have an accual reason to use it.

  • @LegendaryProjects and I dont? *evil face* >:D

  • @ELITEHAMSTER123 if you did what this guy told you to do then you are putting it in a TIN CAN!!! i hate to break it to you but that isnt realy safe. plus you should wear eye protection or you can get welders eye (if you have any knowledge of what this stuff is intended for then you would know what that is).

  • @LegendaryProjects dont worry, I do welding in real life. My second comment was a poke at humor ;)

  • @ELITEHAMSTER123 just make sure to wear eye protection. i got welders eye before and it SUCKS!!! ans for thoughs of you that dont know what welders eye is, just think of it as like a realy bad sun burn on your eye ball.

  • The mythbusters guys set off 1000 pounds of thermite to try to burn a car in half. To see how they did, check out my video:

    Incendiary Experiments

  • The ratio is wrong in the video. If you do stoichiometry the ratio turns out to be 1:3. This creates a much better burn rate.

  • Is this legal???I don't want FEDS breaking down my door??

  • @zombiekillerjordan Its legal IF you have a permission.

  • @zombiekillerjordan fuck the FEDS & the DEA, time to staple the constitution to their foreheads.

  • Thanks for the info, I've just put up my 1st thermite video. I did 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of Iron oxide and 3/4 teaspoon of ally powder 400 mesh.

    It worked a treat!

  • sweet i gotta crack dealer right down my street i'll go borrow his scale

  • like my teacher used to tell me : set up a proportion :P

  • Mix is actually 3grams iron oxide to 1 gram Al. Your have to do stoichiometric analysis

  • the mix is 1:2 = Al:iron ox.

    Right?

  • 9-11 base element ...

  • Just mixing the thermite (if you're going really big that is) can set it off... Its pretty volatile stuff... and its slef oxidizing meaning theres no stopping it once it gets going

  • Just letting you all know, this works a LOT better if you join the aluminium and iron oxide first (by heating of course :P). And also, you DO need magnesium ribbon as the reaction requires a LOT of heat to start.

  • @0100101001101010 Join the aluminum and iron oxide by heating? That's what the redox reaction does when it's burning. Also, you don't NEED magnesium strip, as this is somewhat hard to come by. You can use easily obtained birthday sparklers, as well.

  • @samurphy Me and all my friends have never had any problem finding magnesium ribbon, but I suppose you could try sparklers as they do usually have magnesium in them. As for the heating, you are supposed to heat the iron oxide until it begins to glow red, then add the aluminium powder. This is not hot enough to start any reaction, but will cause the powder to sort of 'stick' together, and makes a much better reaction. For more details, download 1000 hacking tutorials, anarchist cookbook, 010

  • just cause someone likes explosives doesn't make them dangerous or a terrorist, it means they like chemical reactions (in short they like things that go boom) and just like guns, if used responsibly explosives are fun, go out to an abandoned field or an area far away from homes to do this though and always have some place to take cover behind, like a lexan (bullet proof glass or polycarbonate) shield

  • this video is awesome....... but where do you get this stuff? i need to know cause that would make ultimate fireworks :)

  • @xlr8r9999 then it would rain flaming thermite .... thats not gonna be very nice lol.

  • You can mix thermite with something like playdough to get something like a plastic explosive.

  • can you just use a sparkler instead of magnesium strip?

  • @Sampson2012bot Yup. Birthday sparklers work fine.

  • so iron oxide is ground up rust? easier than i thought

  • @tigerboy1227

and chances are someone you know has a work bench grinder, so you can take a ball of sheet aluminum the size of a baseball and have enough aluminum powder for a while.

  • @Garrettalllikewhat bench grinder tends to heat the aluminum to the point that it oxidizes. Ruins it for use in thermite production. You can buy aluminum and iron oxide powders from pottery supply shops or sometimes paint supply shops, as they're used for pigmenting ceramics and paints. These have the virtue of being extremely fine, thus being easier to ignite, and burning much more efficiently.

  • @tigerboy1227 Fe2O3 is just fine ground rust. To get it fine enough takes a lot of effort. You can also burn steel wool (finest you can find) with a torch and then grind it with a mortal/pestle type deal to make Black Iron Oxide (Fe3O4)

Fe3O4 burns much hotter in a thermite reaction than red iron oxide.

  • awesome !

but the components are too spend

  • @ultimatrum

if you search more you can get aluminum powder for like $13 for 2 pounds , im not in northamerica , i got it from a fireworks chemical suplier

i doubt the iron rust cost more than it.

  • mexico is a a poor country.. ="(

  • @ultimatrum its poor country but you can buy nearly every chemical you want without questions asked

and for good prices, not the rip-offs you get in u.s.a.

  • @ultimatrum If you shop on ebay, you can buy the materials to make around 3-4 pounds of thermite for about $40.

The amount he used here was probably about half a pound.

  • it can be on u.s.a.

in mexico it´s not the same ="(

  • @ultimatrum I order mine from a seller in the US, and I live in Canada. If you don't order the components at the same time, there's no reason you can't get simple, inert, safe, common powdered aluminum and iron oxides sent to your home in mexico.

  • @ultimatrum

tracoquim or pirotecnia bicentenario is your friend, none of those chemicals are regulated by sedena and it will cost you about 170 pesos

  • mierda

  • You get iron oxide from a most hardware stores and powdered aluminium at a paint store.

  • @TheChillyphilly ok but where do i buy a red bull can? lol

  • @TheChillyphilly What about a magnesium strip?

  • @charybdis253 Magnesium i generally not as effective as Aluminium because Aluminium oxidises very easily, magnesium, quite easily but not as easily as Aluminium, it would probably still work but not be as spectacular

  • there is neccesar to have magnesium strip? can be magnesium strip replaced by regular knot?

  • @Fusion2222 If you have a fine enough powder mixture, you might get away with a standard fuse material. You can also just use a birthday sparkler, as the burning coal on these is well over the ignition temp of thermite.

  • this video was copied. It's originally from ShootingEggs productions on Metacafe.

  • 40 people are safety nerds 8)

  • no need for the magnesium! it just makes it look cool.

  • @tharwpoop no it is needed to ingite thermite ittakes a good bit of heat. and magnesium burns hot enough to light it. matches or a lighter wont do it.

  • @kumili727 yes actually it will, if you put a book of matches in it and put a fuse leading to it all the matches igniting will light the thermite

  • Check Jolly Roger's anarchist cookbook for a more in depth explanation on how to make this stuff. Also how to made large quantaties of iron oxide

  • @rokyn2000 producing iron oxyde is very simple. Buy a Chevrolet and let it rust outside for 6 months. You get more than 1 ton of it

  • @UpInUrAss lol

  • yay nascar

  • remember to NOT look directly into the blaze, but its still AWESOME to watch until you're blinded

  • REDBULL GIVES U WINGS xD

  • crazy how simple yet effictive this stuff is. and where did u get iron oxide?

  • @wicmercfrik

Iron oxide is the same thing as rust.

  • is there anyway to make the thermite melt things better because i want to make an rptm (rocket propelled thermite missile)

  • @Techrave1 fucking terrorist!

  • @kumili727 :P na im\ just need to get rid of a spare car i have and a thermite bomb would fix it fast

  • where can you get the stuff at?

  • what song?

  • the world of red bull..

  • Does anyone know why you need to use a magnesium strip?

  • @MoldCheese because it only ignites at high temps and magnesium is the easiest way

  • @MoldCheese Nothing really, just a fuse i guess.

  • @MoldCheese Becouse you need very high temperature too start the thermite reaction, and magnezium burns at about 1000 degrees Celsius. I think matches can be used also

  • haha, WOW!!! i happen to have the exact same scale as you in my kitchen! XD

    hooray

  • Yea, this is how towers 1,2, and 7 were brought down. No thanks to Mossad and CIA. The CIA also capped JFK too.

Anyway, great video! I like it a 10!

  • @Freedom3777 you have no idea what your talking about do you?!?! thy conspiracy is hey were brought down using shape charges with copper and thermite jackass

  • I bought in a local shop 3 kilos of blue Iron Oxide (II) , for extra power, by 15 euros (about 5 euros/kilo) and 1 kilo of aluminum powder which is by far the most expensive ingredient since it custs 27 euros/kilo :O So I ended up with 4 kilos of thermite and less 42 euros in my pocket, but I can´t wait to ignit it and maybe I´ll post some vid here on youtube :))

  • @Twineo so what happened? I made my own red iron oxide, and thinking i might just make a water grinder for aluminum powder. what you think bout that?

  • @9DragonMaster You could make powdered aluminum with stock and a water grinder, but it would take a lot of patience in my opinion. I'd say try it, then gauge your time vs the $20 it costs online for a pound of aluminum powder and see if it's worth it.

  • @samurphy lol i asked that like 6 months ago.... And I still don't have aluminum powder hahaha. Someone just taught me the proper way to be effecient at makign dark aluminum powder. I had been trying to ball mill for days and gave up. I'm sure if i kept going it would turn to powder, just there wasn't enuff powder vs running my treadmill for a week. If i make a power effcient ball mill that runs off smaller current i'll go back at it. who pays for stuff you can make?

  • @9DragonMaster Well, personally my time is worth more to me than a few bucks, so I'd glady have a reliable product shipped to me than spend days struggling to make something that's likely already wrecked.

dark aluminum powder is likely already oxidized, and will give a very weedy thermite reaction. You need clean, unoxidized aluminum to start and sustain a decent reaction.

  • @samurphy are you trying to say my homemade dark aluminum powder is wrecked? I know how quickly aluminum powder can oxidize, thats why you make dark, sealed in ziplocks will be fine. I accept your challenge!!!! But yea, maybe after this weeks ebay sales I'll have an extra 20 bux to drop on slightly over 450g's of Al. My ballmills running since i woke up =D

  • @samurphy I was trying to save the money for the harder chemicals to get that produce color. I wasn't really considering making thermite, except just to see if I could. I mainly use red iron oxide, and Al in star comps. and rocketry.

  • @samurphy

search better, you can get a kilo for less than $20

  • awesome, i tried it once and failed cause I couldn't find a magnesium

  • @n213ck roman candles lol

  • nice

  • 39 ppl are GGGGAAAAYYY

  • yea i agree why would you flag this its rust and aluminum /= i mean i can see why its dangerouse but i dont think people that would do something stuped with it would know what to do any ways i plan on using it for melting iron i got from my yard,

  • were did u get the magnesium thingy?

  • I should act like a dumbass and ask my science teacher if we could make this for a lab experiment. XD

  • not illegal? THX

  • My dad had a thermite...i guess it would be called spill. destroyed 2 60,00 machines and burned a 7 foot hole in the floor.

  • Thanx. Another way you can purchase these materials is a paint shop. They sell powders like graphite (black), iron oxide lll (red), aluminium (silver) and even gold.

  • i thought it was 3:1 not 2:1?

  • lol you can use KNSU to ignite thermite :) funny stuff indeed

  • how much was in that pop can ......like how much did it weigh???

  • This stuff is some really interesting stuff. hahahaha. It really fucks shit up

  • I knew someone who died of this shit.

    It burned it's face,

  • why is it that i can only find aluminum 325 mesh anywhere on the internet, where can i get 400 mesh?

  • @spinners9462 you can get 12000 mesh.. if you check on ebay but that,d be a waste in thermite:)

  • heheh, you thought we would think that was a half inch steel plate but its an aluminum baking griddle for pancakes. SNEAKY but wrong

  • Thermite was once tested by Mythbusters. This is heavy shit we are talking about!

  • waaaa better than alien's blood!!thx friend...now I'm working...XDXD

  • whats the ratio of aluminum to iron dio/tri oxide

    anyone know?

  • 8 ounces iron oxide for every 3 ounces aluminum

  • thermite is self oxidizing meaning

it dont give a shit what you do to it. you aint puting it out

  • mother fucker ...

  • what if i cant the Aluminium into a powder? the best i can get is filings will they work?

  • etch a scetches fool!!!

  • ok so tell me if this would work..i get an aluminum baseball bat, cut it up and grind the smaller pieces down for my aluminum powder, then i make rust the same way most people do with iron rods and a battery charger, and i grind down a magnusium fire starter and make a fuse using the magnesium powder. now im not sure if all that stuff is pure enough or whatever, but would it work????

  • Getting rust that way takes a long time but you can get it other ways. As for the magnesium, use a strip of it, not powder

  • dude..that's WAY too much work for aluminum powder....go to walmart or the dollar store or something and get an etch-a-sketch..break it open dump out the dust..and bam aluminum powder

  • ya =D smart

  • great vid, its awesome

  • Yay! I hate Red Bull.. makes me shit n fart alot... lol

  • y is it that wen i mix my powders they still make a grey powder instead of a red powder? im using indian blackhead flake 400 mesh is that why? and wen it burns it burns slowly and the iron produced is of poor quality and rarely goes to the flowing liquid stage? it gets bright red hot and not yellow? i can barely melt through anything. please help.

  • thats because the mix in this video is incorrect. the best ratio is actually 3/1 Iron Oxide/ Aluminum

  • ferrous or ferric oxide.....fe2O3 or Fe3O4 ??? just an idle question???

  • ferrous... It's rust dude

  • yes, I know that, but there are two types of "rust" - ferric oxide and ferrous oxide. I only ask in curiosity,

    YJ

  • Ah, my bad dude

  • Thanks, you see ferric oxide(fe2o3) has less oxygen per molecule than ferrous oxide (fe3o4), so is not as effective,

    cheers anyway,

    YJ (Ph.D.) :-)))

  • I have no Ph.D., but plain logic says that weight-wise the Fe2O3 has a higher oxygen/Iron ratio than the Fe3O4.

And Fe2O3 (red rust) is what is used for thermite.

    You see? ;)

  • The oxygen requred comes from the air.....

  • no, it comes from the iron OXIDE

  • hey what are the quanty? how many grams of aluminium and iron oxide ?

  • Hey i like the song in this vid. You know where i can get it?

  • your an idiot.

  • hey man don't need to say that because the ignorant that don't know the thruth watching this are only going to give you thumbs down...

  • Siete mitici!!!! Questo esperimento mi tornerà sicuramente utile XD

  • after you have made the thermite, you can mix it with modeling clay to make shaped charges =))

  • the people who flagged this are idiots.

  • @tw1nk3rs no, thermite is that dangerous

  • this video tought me something, how to make a powder mix that burns at close to the melting temperature of steel!

  • Flagged? wow...

  • would 500 mesh aluminum work?

  • Can anyone say thermite Airsoft????

  • Comment removed

  • ur a loser mate (iNfx1)!! can anyone sayy, dumbfuck!!!??

  • wtf!! couldn´t you use a other thing to put it in?? POOR Red Bull

  • my friend made that in chemistry last year

  • just tried it and made rust from water iron and a battery and aluminum from grinder and a mtn dew can, magnesium didnt light it, what gives?

  • The 4th of july is going to be great.

  • ROFLOL

  • Flagged?????

  • probably so the little kids on youtube don't do something stupid with this!

  • 1,000 internets to the uploader

  • how can i make napalm with gasoline and thermite, pn please. fuck the new world order, fuck obama!

  • good follow up when asking for directions on making napalm is to sound like a terrorist

  • ince idea if u really fuXX the action out O..o

  • god damn right fuck obama. He's already fucking every thing up. Wish I could spend billions on fucken bull shit. Fuck him in his dumb fucken ass.

  • just put a shit-ton of packaging foam into gasoline. The gasoline eats the foam, making a gel-like substance known as "home-made napalm". Fun to mess with, but God save you if you get that shit on you... not fun bro.

  • haha thats from the anarchist cookbook

  • can u send me a pik of what u mean exacly by packaging foam? and which type of gas? :) ima try that shit for sure!

  • same here!!! send me a pic lol of wat kind of foam, pleaseeeee?????
