Does anyone know what the regs are with getting the colors and guidon wet in the ocean? I would think the salt water would rust the metal. It seems like a huge no-no for some reason
excuse me? to get other people's resources? i'll grant that fdr's entrance into the war was sketchy. but my, will you deny the holocaust as well? how 'bout our involvement in ending that inexcusable slaughter? politicians may be corrupt. but how dare you come on this page and attempt to deny the honor which the men and women of service deserve more than any of us!
Yep Marines were first to fight in WW2 infact i dont recall but i think US Marines put on the Navy Vessals as security during pearl harbour where the only personnel to carry firearms around the vessels. But the Seamen took a few minutes to get the ammunition loaded on the guns and to get into the armories when it started.
How about credit to the other branches of service? its always Marines first, nothing could be further from the truth, how about the Aleutian Islands, N Africa, the European theater, The Flying Tigers, it wasn't Marines, most people don't even know about the Aleutian Island conflict, you are taught to believe what you are told and not the facts, MARINES ARE NOT ALWAYS FIRST, FACT.
asiankatoeylover: the flying tigers are marines, idiot...see those helicopters going over us??? those are the flying tigers, dumbass...and they're marines. they were with us on the entire MEU.
Well idiot,I am talking about the flying tigers of WW2, Claire chennaults group AVG, they were all volunteers, Army, Navy, Marine, and Airforce, they were broken up in 43,then reassigned, a small group stayed behind and trained the Chinese, those rotorheads aren't the original flying tigers dumbass!!! you missed the point.
@meltona In a WW2 context, the Flying Tigers - officially the American Volunteer Group or 'AVG' were American pilots, mostly from the Army Air Corps who wanted to join the war against Japan before the U.S. was officially at war. The only way to do that was to resign and join the Chinese air force. They flew American planes which had Chinese markings as well as the distinctive teeth which gave them their name. Though there may have been members who were formerly USMC, this would have been rare.
I'm not sure about the other wars, but only my only war, Viet Nam.
A place called hill 327. The Marines took the hill, and turned it over to the Army. They lost it in combat. The Marines took it again. Gave it to the Army. They lost it again and the Marines retook it. The Marines kept it, and made a great US base.
Sometimes called Freedom Hill. Until the end
of the Viet Nam war the Marines were still holding it.
If you would have opened your ignorant eyes and actually really checked, there was about a week or two inbetween the event! Because about a week later Mike Strank (one of the flag raisers and my idol) died, and then that same afternoon Harlon Block died. And Ralph Ignatowski went missing. And I wouldn't call it playing in the water. I'm pretty sure if you were being shot at by invisible enemies and see all your friends being killed, you would need that break! They deserved it!
Hey Neverence, all that I "do know" is that their my heroes and that your an arrogant jerk. Read up on your history, because I know for a fact that they didn't just instantly go to the beach and they didn't "play" in the water!
@Devildog1591 there's no way to guarantee you'll go anywhere, regardless of your MOS. i was in artillery, but i went to iwo when i was attached to the 31st MEU. there was infantry, artillery, comm, air wing...pretty much any job you can think of. if you go on a meu, there's no telling where you'll end up. but if you get stationed in okinawa, regardless of your job, you could go to iwo on your own if you wanted...they do tours pretty regularly there.
Watch the movie or read the book. DURING the fight they were ordered to go play in the water. On the other side of the island the fighting was still raging on and a few Marines were stripping down into their skivvies and playing in the water.
fuzzydoor you obvious have no clue what you are talking about. the marines that raised the flags on iwo jima were allowed to play in the waves after they lifted the flags. these marines are just paying tribute to that.
if i went to iwo jima i wouldnt be having fun playing in the water, id most likely be thinking about the soldiers and how they came to fight in the war, how they gave there lives, stupid marines
You do know that the marines who lifted the first and second flag on Iwo Jima went out and played in the water immediately after, right? In fact it was an order, as a reward.
They wern't playing in the water you shit ass!!!! They were washing the blood and guts and ass off them. Do you have a problem with that you ignorant fuck! You get to wash and shave you stupid little balls everyday and you have a problem with marines washing off after a hard month without water or food showing alittle happiness!!! Aloha bitch it was an order so they wouldn't get infections.
soldiers? stupid marines? marines fought at iwo jima, not soldiers. it's our heritage, not yours. the only reason you have the rights to say what you just said is because of us. i'd like to meet you.
How DARE YOU...you canadian piece of filth ..you bastards think you can just sit up in your French tower to criticize MY country...the nerve. My dad is a Marine and my whole family was military all the way from Pearl Harbor to the Vietnam War..so damn you to hell commie!
Bloody idots, when will the dumpies understand that blind patriotic cult is the dawn to nationalisme . . . WWII was no victory for anybody, one acted as barbaric as the the other side. They should build monuments reminding the children a human tradegy, instead of brainwashing this young dumpies, to believe that shooting humans into pieces is a nice job . . . . the after war forgoten and wounded veterans would kick the asses of thoses . . .
where would you be if we hadn't fought WWII, with blind patriotic cult-members (My grandpa being a proud member, by the way). You would not be here to spew your ignorant rhetoric. I'm now in the same blind, patriotic, barbarian cult--and proud to be here.
I think that most ignorants are in the video , as nobody seemed to have read a least one book about WWII, or tried to find out the truth behind patriotic retoric . . . . the world would still turn ,also without the US-heros, 2000000death on one side and 300000 on the other is nothing to be proud of, shame on humanity . . ..sad to see that 60years after, the stupid male monkeys act the same as before. Sad hunamity.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself-JS MILL
Personally, I think gtrlux is a low grade moron. If gtrlux wants enlightenment she should read about the Japanese rape of Nanking and unit 731. She should also read about the treatment recieved by allied POWs from the Japanese (torture, beheadings, mutilation and vivisection).
I doubt that gtrlux will do anything to alleviate her ignorance. Stupid is as stupid does
its all brainwashing right? none of it would have happened if they didnt attack pearl harbor...and thats what should and is being taught to children!!!
I just read the book Flags of our Fathers. I was thinking of all the dead Marines rolling in the surf on 2/19/1945 and seeing this video in contrast. Young Marines frolicking in the surf, having fun. Who could have imagined it at the time.
just like the marines before them

@asiankatoeylover First of all the Flying Tigers were not part of the Military they were Mercs.
FACT:U.S History 95% of the time it is the U.S Marines that are the first to fight,
Aleutian Islands? the Marines had already fought many battles well before that Campaign.
First to fight means first in the war!
