That was their best sketch ever, or at least Fry's. His crowing achievement. The lines "Mr Dalliard! Mr Dalliard!" and "Detonate our relatives" will remain with me forever.
I think had Stephen Fry chosen to be shopkeeper instead of comedian the world would sorely lack a wonderful comedian but instead be doomed with an insufferable shopkeeper. So, thank God he did not!
Wonderful. Unfortunately, I am not a native English speaker and I cannot understand 100% of it, but it is wonderful anyway. "I am so sorry we couldn't ehlp you, Sir. We do try to accomodate our customer, but not being an hotel we find it a little impossible" :D
I wonder. Do we scale modelers find this even funnier than normal folks? The whole joy of modeling part was awesome. (Also, do you think it's a real shop or did they just get Airfix to sponsor the 'stock'?)
"Just don't come bleating to me if your son turns out to be one of those drug jockeys were always reading about on television?"
I love that he got all the major forms of media in there: radio (D.J.s), newspaper/magazine, and television. These gentlemen are just outstanding comedians. I love rewatching their sketches to pick up little things I missed the first go around.
I've never heard anyone say "let me ask a different question in the same way" it's always "let me ask the same question in a different way". Stephen is so clever.
I love Stephen's delivery of "Mr Dalliard...I've gone peculiar now!" He seems genuinely alarmed at his own weirdness. Maybe I just identify with that...for some reason.
the gestures about his son's b-day are hilarious, also, "and he will blow your head off w/ as much mercy if you were a helpless sealpup called arnold!"
I think there's a little glitch where Hugh says "Fly to Dover?"... they both kept giggling at that bit, so I suppose that's the bit they've edited out!
"Are you expecting this boy to be a boy or a girl?" xD
I love this sketch so much. Stephen always plays the insane shopkeeper so well. He's just so suave and fluently articulate that you almost don't notice he's talking complete nonsense.
I love the "Oh you really are stupid, I'm so sorry" because I've seen people make idiots of themselves by saying things like "Are you deaf or just stupid" to deaf people :-)
Brilliant, I love the Mr Dalliard sketches (the one with the shoes/prostitutes was fantastic too). Stephen does crazy oh so well, and Hugh is always good as the baffled everyman.
'Comerade Stalin in rude health I trust?' gets me every time! Genius!
That was brilliant! I actually laughed out loud suddenly (making everyone in the vicinity jump) when Stephen shrieked so worriedly "A model areoplane of water?!" X'D
No, I think that the shoe shop sketch was rather more peculiar. Think about it. A man who sells model aeroplanes that are like that, or a man who sells a shoe like that?
I would be in that shop everyday :D And every time I went in, I would say, "Good morning."
