i hate weapons that are really acurate like the vindicator. if its moderate accuracy or low accuracy then yes. like the avenger, revenant and smg! the carnifex is an exception
The Firepower Pack COMPLETELY breaks the game, especially if you're a soldier. Plasma shotgun and Mattock combined with incendiary ammo and Andrenaline Rush has saved my ass so many times...
It's just overpowered, you could take out two vorcha on insanity difficulty without losing your shield whereas while using vindicator or avenger u can hardly take out one without losing your shield
@BladingRocx IMO you should give them a try.The Soldier is the preferred class to those who love third person shooters. However he is too depended on bullets for my taste.
An Infiltrator can have equal damage to a Soldier(Widow) but if you use the Cloak and a power like Energy drain and play tactically then the Infiltrator becomes SERIOUSLY devastating, achieving with stealth and tactics things the Soldier has to waste 90%of his ammo for.
@sdpens no, he uses the M-77 revenant, the modified semi-automatic Mattock like version. i mean did u see him killing the 3 prisoners before the boss fight? 1 shot, not a spray of bullets like normal for the revenant.
@sdpens Yeah, hate pyros:p Playing as an Adept, having squadmates with Overload is like the most satisfactory thing ever in ME2. Love watching the pyros blown to hell :p Not that they're hard to deal with, but if you overlook one of them, he'll attempt to fry the shit out of you and get you out of cover >.< The one in the Garrus recruitment mission is particularly bad if you mess up.
Mattock is good overall, but I just dislike the low ammo capacity since I'm stuck combing around for thermal clips. (Then again I could just use other weapons more). Mattock is a good non-soldier/non-revanent upgrade weapon.
@greendragonable - I like the revenant-viper combo for my soldiers, but the mattock-widow soldier is a lot of fun too. If you like sitting back and sniping go with the mattock-widow. If you like playing more aggressively go with the revenant-viper.
Is this weapon worth the money? Its damage and fire rate aren't bad but every time I play through this game, I either pick the Revenant as a Soldier, Assault Rifle Training (Avenger/Vindicator) as an Infiltrator, and Sniper Rifle Training (Viper) as any of the other four classes. The Revenant's one hell of a beast, the Avenger's not bad with Tactical Cloak, the Vindicator is perfect when loaded with Cryo Ammo, and the upgraded Viper pretty much renders this gun obsolete.
@020stevenleu - The Mattock DLC (Firepower Pack) also includes the Geth Pulse Shotgun and the M-5 Phalanx pistol so you get two additional weapons.
I've used the Mattock quite a lot and it's great for squadmates. Plus you don't get that annoying sniper zoom when you cast a power with the sniper rifle equiped.
All the weapons in that DLC are overpowered but they're a lot of fun and something different from the stock ME2 weapons. I think it's worth the money.
question, i started a completely new game with me2 and i got the firepower dlc and I'm able to use the shotgun and the pistol but not the mattock yet....y is this? do i need to actually find an assault rifle first in order to switch them out or what?
@TheClassAccount - Only the soldier can use assault rifles from the beginning of the game. What class are you playing? Since you can use a shotgun but not an assault rifle it sounds like you're playing a Vanguard.
@sdpens yes i am a vanguard, but if u watch xcalizor's latest mass effect 2 play through it says he's using the mattock heavy rifle and idk how he is able to do this
@TheClassAccount - The way you get the Mattock from the beginning is to do a playthrough and select Assault Rifles during the Disabled Collector Vessel mission (you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there) and finish the game with that character. Then start a new game and import that ME2 character and you'll have the Mattock. If that doesn't make sense let me know.
@NickyAmerica - The true value of the Mattock, I think, comes from it's rate of fire. It's got pretty good damage, but it will fire as fast as you can mash the button.
But there isn't an upgrade that increases reserve ammo...
Besides, Mattock has such insane damage and accuraty that it should last throughout the entire combat anyway. You can take a medium enemy out in less than a clip, and a mook in a few shots... It's crazy.
Aaaah right, my bad. I didn't even consider the armor thingy. Still, Mattock does 50.4 damage with 750 RPM (three times that of the comparable damage-wise rifle, Viper) with perfect accuracy. More than the problem of ammo, it's the question of "are you ok with using an overpowered gun"... everything will be dead by the time you're empty anyway.
@DeeVeeSone - I prefer the Shuriken and Predator, but you should also try the Tempest and Carnifex - you might like them better. I also like to take shotgun training for my sentinels, but you should also try assault rifles or sniper rifles.
I did the M-98 Widow at collector ship. Then picked up the geth pulse rifle at Tali's recruitment. It's better or equal to the revenant and the widow is a killing machine
@luman97 - IThat sounds like a good setup. I haven't used the GPR too much but it's multipliers against Shields and Barriers are better than the Revenant and you don't have to worry about recoil.
@DBZisthebestanimever - I like the Revenant better too, but it's only available to Soldiers. Other classes have an SMG and a pistol if the Mattock is running low on ammo.
@DBZisthebestanimever your crazy dude revenant only has a higher ammo capacity ill take the mattocks power and accuracy over the revenant and i used to love that gun too
@MrAreed89 no way the mattock deals 4032 damage on all it's rounds (including spare rounds) while the revenant deals 11928. Taking into account the revenant's bad accuracy even if it misses more than half it's rounds it will still deal more damage and if you like facing your enemy head on it will literally rip through anyone
@sdpens Cool. Never noticed this possibility in other peoples videos with modded games, or didnt pay attention. Interesting that any weapon will be available for every class in ME3.
@ScAdOoShABOIBNMVGBSD - actually, the Mattock is quite a bit faster than the Viper in the right hands. Plus, you can empty an entire clip in Adreneline Rush - with the Viper you can get off only 3-4 shots.
@sdpens fair point but i wouldnt know because i never thought that something close to the same as something else and costs, generally isnt worth the expense
@BlueonGoldZ - If you haven't played with the Mattock yet you should give it a try. The Mattock has a higher base damage and DPS, and it fires as fast as you can pull the trigger, whereas with the Vindicator you're limited to 3 round bursts. Give them both a try - I think you'll like the Mattock better.
@fantiu1 - I think it depends on how you like to play. If you like to play up close to the enemy go for the Revenant. If you like to stay back and shoot from a distance go with the Mattock.
@ultrajd I think it's the best rifle in ME2 although it's pretty overpowered. It's awesome for a Soldier using Adrenaline Rush and it's great for non-Soldiers if you take Assault Rilfe training on the Disabled Collector Ship.
@sdpens Im thinking about being a sentinel because of the tech armor. I think I'll get this weapon for the advanced training and maybe I'll make a solider too and give them this along with all the other bad ass weapons.
@ultrajd Mattock+Adrenaline Rush is a blast. You might want to consider shotgun training for your Sentinel - activate Assault Armor, move in close and blast away with your shotgun (I like the Scimitar).
So wait...how's the geth pulse rifle stack up with the revenant? I personally wont spend on dlc for a while, and i wanna know which weapons to look for. I got the pulse rifle, and with adrenaline it can be aimed to where it headshots constantly. On hardcore, merc shields drop in 2 bullets. Also, if there are other weps like it available without dlc, i'd like to know.
@nightmare5015 The geth pulse rilfe has much better accuracy and recoil. It also has a higher damage muliplier against both Shields and Barriers than the Revanent (1.35 vs 1.2) but lower against armor (1.15 vs 1.4), but the Revanent has a higher overall DPS. If I was playing a Soldier and took the Widow or Claymore I would probably use the GPR over any of the default assault rifles.
@FluidDeconstructor - I've never used the Mattock as an Infiltrator, but since Cloak doesn't have the time slowdown like AR, you should be able to get off as many shots as fast as you can pull the trigger. I think, though, that Cloak starts to wear off as soon as you start shooting, so you'll probably not be able to get off a whole clip before the enemy starts shooting at you.
The fact that tactical cloak breaks so fast when firing really makes infiltrator obsolete compared to soldier which has 5 seconds of 100%(hightened) more damage than assassination cloak, and with ALL weapons, not just sniper rifle.
I am so disappointed with infiltrator now, not to mention that AI hacking is probably the most useless power ever conceived now, only able to hack AFTER shields and armor are gone, seriously?!
@FluidDeconstructor - Yeah, AI Hacking is pretty worthless. I don't even take it anymore. I think the purpose of Cloak is to flank the enemy without being seen, get some shots off, find some cover and repeat. It's great with a shotgun. Plus, you can use it to hide when you're in trouble and find better cover.
For straight weapon damage Soldier with AR beats all other classes.
@MasterChief117killer - Legion is great to have in your squad - awesome squadmate during battles and has a lot of interesting conversions with Shepard.
@MasterChief117killer - Yep. I thought you meant how is he as a squadmate. If you're interested there's a link in the video description where I learned how to mod.
@MasterChief117killer - Yep. I thought you meant how is he as a squadmate. If you're interested there's a link in the video description where I learned how to mod.
The true power of the Mattock comes from it's DPS. It fires as fast as you pull the trigger, meaning you can dish out some serious damage over a short period of time on a single target. Unfortunately the Revenant is still king if fully upgraded, but the Mattock outlasts weapons like the Avenger and Vindicator since it makes an excellent Squadmate weapon. I would recommend it for classes without AR weapon training as it outclasses the Viper. However some classes should go for the Geth shotty.
@NeoDMC - The accuracy is also great for headshots and shooting pyro tanks, but I agree about the Revenant. There's nothing like unloading a full Revenant clip on Harbinger! I'm starting a new Soldier playthrough to see how the Mattock works with Adrenaline Rush.
@sdpens the M96 is extremly powerful with the Soldier class. Harbinger dies in 2sec with Adrenaline Rush on Insane (=. Nether a scion, nor a praetorian is a real threat. (=. so you dont need the Machine gun and you can choose the Widow Antimaterial rifle (on the collector's ship)
@NeoDMC correct me if im wrong but does nt the solder only have excess to the revenant rifle??the mattock is by far a better assualt rifle the accuracy and stopping power really comes into its own on insanity and combine that with Heightened Adrenaline Rush and you can cause alot of damage.also why would you pass up on the widow sniper rifle on inanity you can instant kill most foes below commander types when using Heightened Adrenaline Rush mattock+widow sniper rifle=best weapon combo in game
@dm4n20 - I use Notepad++ to edit the c.ini file and ME2IniFixer to revalidate the checksum on the c.ini. You can also use theME2CoalescedEditor or the Gibbed ME2 game save editor. I can post links if you want to try them.
@dm4n20 - Posted a link in the video description to the BioWare forums where I found the modding info. For some reason I can't post it here in the comments section.
@streetwalkingnigga32 - @streetwalkingnigga32 - I agree, but it's still a blast to use. I've used it on two missions and decided not to use as much because it's so easy. One of the game devs basically said the Firepower Pack weapons were designed to disrupt the ME2 weapons system.
All classes can use Assault Rifles(My sentinel actualy uses the mattock), but they must choose as advanced Training the Assault Rifle (in the middle of the game...)
@zdavidlnxTube - You're right! I just couldn't wait. Since this is my first playthrough as a Vanguard I'm planning on taking the Claymore shotgun when I get that choice.
@TheLastManatee - thanks Manatee! yep, soldiers only. i had just started a playthrough as a vanguard and had just downloaded the dlc and wanted to use the mattock, so i modded the game.
The Mattock is outclassed in ME3 now.
Wait till you grab the Falcon. You won't want to use anything but.

@sdpens true, the mattock is beast with adrenaline but it has a low amount of bullets but it will always be my fav gun
freedom45 1 year ago
@freedom45 - Yeah, you definately have to watch your ammo with the Mattock.
sdpens 1 year ago
I actually prefer CQB's. Ulike you do, I think...
666666MetalHead 1 year ago
@666666MetalHead - Yeah, I'm not very good with the close combat stuff so I usually stay back under cover.
sdpens 1 year ago
is it better than revenant ?
fantiu1 1 year ago
@fantiu1 - I think it depends on how you like to play. If you like to play up close to the enemy go for the Revenant. If you like to stay back and shoot from a distance go with the Mattock.

Im gonna go get out ME2 now...
MrFruityFetus 1 year ago
@MrFruityFetus - Alright! Make sure you download the Firepower Pack to get the Mattock.
sdpens 1 year ago
How good is that rifle?
ultrajd 1 year ago
@ultrajd I think it's the best rifle in ME2 although it's pretty overpowered. It's awesome for a Soldier using Adrenaline Rush and it's great for non-Soldiers if you take Assault Rilfe training on the Disabled Collector Ship.
sdpens 1 year ago
@sdpens Im thinking about being a sentinel because of the tech armor. I think I'll get this weapon for the advanced training and maybe I'll make a solider too and give them this along with all the other bad ass weapons.
ultrajd 1 year ago
@ultrajd Mattock+Adrenaline Rush is a blast. You might want to consider shotgun training for your Sentinel - activate Assault Armor, move in close and blast away with your shotgun (I like the Scimitar).
sdpens 1 year ago
@sdpens Hmm maybe I'll try that.
ultrajd 1 year ago
So wait...how's the geth pulse rifle stack up with the revenant? I personally wont spend on dlc for a while, and i wanna know which weapons to look for. I got the pulse rifle, and with adrenaline it can be aimed to where it headshots constantly. On hardcore, merc shields drop in 2 bullets. Also, if there are other weps like it available without dlc, i'd like to know.
nightmare5015 1 year ago
@nightmare5015 The geth pulse rilfe has much better accuracy and recoil. It also has a higher damage muliplier against both Shields and Barriers than the Revanent (1.35 vs 1.2) but lower against armor (1.15 vs 1.4), but the Revanent has a higher overall DPS. If I was playing a Soldier and took the Widow or Claymore I would probably use the GPR over any of the default assault rifles.

Can you please tell me after how many shots from Mattock rifle does tactical cloak break?
I know that soldier with adrenaline rush can unload a full clip under it...
FluidDeconstructor 1 year ago
@FluidDeconstructor - I've never used the Mattock as an Infiltrator, but since Cloak doesn't have the time slowdown like AR, you should be able to get off as many shots as fast as you can pull the trigger. I think, though, that Cloak starts to wear off as soon as you start shooting, so you'll probably not be able to get off a whole clip before the enemy starts shooting at you.
sdpens 1 year ago
@sdpens
FluidDeconstructor 1 year ago
@FluidDeconstructor - Yeah, AI Hacking is pretty worthless. I don't even take it anymore. I think the purpose of Cloak is to flank the enemy without being seen, get some shots off, find some cover and repeat. It's great with a shotgun. Plus, you can use it to hide when you're in trouble and find better cover.
For straight weapon damage Soldier with AR beats all other classes.

How is legion in your squad???
MasterChief117killer 1 year ago
@MasterChief117killer - Legion is great to have in your squad - awesome squadmate during battles and has a lot of interesting conversions with Shepard.
sdpens 1 year ago
@sdpens right.. but u modded files didnt u
MasterChief117killer 1 year ago
@MasterChief117killer - Yep. I thought you meant how is he as a squadmate. If you're interested there's a link in the video description where I learned how to mod.

@MasterChief117killer
He says in the video description that he modified the game files to allow Legion into the party at that point in the game.

@Promenius ahh... ok
MasterChief117killer 1 year ago
The true power of the Mattock comes from it's DPS. It fires as fast as you pull the trigger, meaning you can dish out some serious damage over a short period of time on a single target. Unfortunately the Revenant is still king if fully upgraded, but the Mattock outlasts weapons like the Avenger and Vindicator since it makes an excellent Squadmate weapon. I would recommend it for classes without AR weapon training as it outclasses the Viper. However some classes should go for the Geth shotty.
NeoDMC 1 year ago
@NeoDMC - The accuracy is also great for headshots and shooting pyro tanks, but I agree about the Revenant. There's nothing like unloading a full Revenant clip on Harbinger! I'm starting a new Soldier playthrough to see how the Mattock works with Adrenaline Rush.
sdpens 1 year ago
@sdpens the M96 is extremly powerful with the Soldier class. Harbinger dies in 2sec with Adrenaline Rush on Insane (=. Nether a scion, nor a praetorian is a real threat. (=. so you dont need the Machine gun and you can choose the Widow Antimaterial rifle (on the collector's ship)
MouzLevicomBenQ 1 year ago
@NeoDMC wrong, Mattock has higher DPS than Revenant even if fully upgraded. Thats because upgrades affect Mattock as much as it affects Revenant.
streetwalkingnigga32 1 year ago
@NeoDMC correct me if im wrong but does nt the solder only have excess to the revenant rifle??the mattock is by far a better assualt rifle the accuracy and stopping power really comes into its own on insanity and combine that with Heightened Adrenaline Rush and you can cause alot of damage.also why would you pass up on the widow sniper rifle on inanity you can instant kill most foes below commander types when using Heightened Adrenaline Rush mattock+widow sniper rifle=best weapon combo in game

now did you change the coalesced.ini, or is there a better save editor out there????
dm4n20 1 year ago
@dm4n20 - I use Notepad++ to edit the c.ini file and ME2IniFixer to revalidate the checksum on the c.ini. You can also use theME2CoalescedEditor or the Gibbed ME2 game save editor. I can post links if you want to try them.
sdpens 1 year ago
@sdpens i have gibbed...is there a new one out?? i've got version 2.5. But notepad++ eh? i'll have to check that out.
dm4n20 1 year ago
@dm4n20 - Posted a link in the video description to the BioWare forums where I found the modding info. For some reason I can't post it here in the comments section.
Lots of good stuff to mod.
sdpens 1 year ago
@streetwalkingnigga32 - @streetwalkingnigga32 - I agree, but it's still a blast to use. I've used it on two missions and decided not to use as much because it's so easy. One of the game devs basically said the Firepower Pack weapons were designed to disrupt the ME2 weapons system.
sdpens 1 year ago
@streetwalkingnigga32 lol hence the name... firepower pack. XD

All classes can use Assault Rifles(My sentinel actualy uses the mattock), but they must choose as advanced Training the Assault Rifle (in the middle of the game...)
zdavidlnxTube 1 year ago
@zdavidlnxTube - You're right! I just couldn't wait. Since this is my first playthrough as a Vanguard I'm planning on taking the Claymore shotgun when I get that choice.

cool vid, is the mattock only available to soldiers?
TheLastManatee 1 year ago
@TheLastManatee - thanks Manatee! yep, soldiers only. i had just started a playthrough as a vanguard and had just downloaded the dlc and wanted to use the mattock, so i modded the game.
