no, origianlly it was a taiwanese folk song called 'Flowers in the rainy night'(雨夜花). as you can see in the beginning of this mv, its composed by the taiwanese composer Deng Yuxian. it was adapted into Japanese later, adopting the title. Japan also remade it into a march during the War. Other apaptions include the mandarin version in the 40s and this catonese version produced by 羅大佑.

@infinera06 i heard anita mui's version in her movie. i really really love the version, in cantonese as well. i don't find it sounds flat at all.
