The same acceptance that the Irish received, because they were once oppressed in this country, the same acceptance the Jews received. While all afformentioned parties worked hard to gain acceptance the fact that their skin color was the same as their American oppressors or close to it is a factor that cannot be overlooked. I believe that these inherent differnces have slowed the reconciliation process.

4 MORE YEARS!!!! We have had so many improvements in this great city with this mayor, the "D" is now #40 in the world as a "destination" ahead of London and Las Vegas. My neighborhood has never been so clean, with almost 200 new "occupied" homes, and a real feel of community. Downtown is amazing and generating funds for even more improvements in the neighborhoods. The media is suburb based and can't stand it that Detroit is getting better than they are.Bashing Kwame is a money maker.

Mr. Ford did a great job getting the Superbowl in his stadium. Mr. Ilitch has done plenty for Detroit. It was right of Mayor Archer to put Mayor Young's dream (casino's) on the ballot and let voters decide. It was nice of Kwame to get his wife a Navigator on taxpayers backs. BTW a co-worker lives in Detroit and pays $5k a year in property taxes on a $70k house. That is insane. My brother's subdivision has to take a collection each year to pay to have their streets plowed. Outrageous.

I used the most current #'s, yours were old. If the city of Detroit had 4 and half million residents, no teachers or city staff would be laid off. Email the mayors office, ask "Is the population of the city of Detroit 4,505,000? (Just like you stated). Too afraid? Waste oil/used oil..........oh you two are ignorant.

Honey we all know that the census burea does not count all of the people in Detroit. They never counted me or my friends or family so what about that I beleive there are a whole lot more peoples in Detroit then is claimed by your paper why? Go to The Metro Times, look up the article by Katie Walton "Take Me To The River" 10/06/2004. The oil is from the steamers, the POLLUTION was so bad it left an oily film on the surface of the water. IT IS POLLUTION. CASE CLOSED, you are wrong, and completely oblivious to the facts. Reality check. You are living in the Twilight Zone.

No TRUE Detrotiers are my Grandmother who came to the city in 1959 from Mississippi and BOUGHT her home and is still holding on to it despite a mayor who is making it hard for her. TRUE Detroiters are people like me that welcome every student from my hometown that goes to college here to my home so they still have a connection to home. My Grandmother came here in 1919, I live in that same house, Through the years this neighborhood has declined. Since Mayor Kilpatrick has been in office there have been MANY improvements, lower taxes, parks for children to play in, nearly 200 new homes, recreation centers for the children and seniors, improved city services, but you seem to have blinders on. I feel so sorry for all you people led by the "MEDIA" CULT.

What lower taxes? I just got off the phone w/my Grandma and she paid one tax and got a letter saying she paid it. Now the city saying she need to pay it again. WTF? No you are the one misinformed. Kwame is ONLY community involved b/c of McPhail. Its all PR.

Really because both my brother taxes are quite high. Higher in fact than a comparably priced house/condo in surrounding communities. The house was broken into once. The condo was vandalized (light fixture, door broken), vehicle wheels stolen, items stolen out of garage.

You have to be kidding! Detroit is a vacant garbage dump. 35,000 people moved out never to return last year. The city is run by gangs and corrupt city officials. The city council is a group of incompetent freaks. The high school graduation rate is around 20%.
