Can't understand how ppl would view this as fashion. Looks like it could be in a horror movie. In the real world ppl do not dress like this. Looks like a freak show. OMG!! how does he make money? If your rich and want real fashion...look me up. I can hook u up to where ppl would die to look at u.
i think you mean , poor to normal ppl when you say real world. rich ppl wear this. a world, sadly, you'll never get to see the inside of. most ppl don't. he makes money, beacause its all expensive couture. think be4 speaking
Well, no shit! You're not suppose to interpret the looks at most fashion shows right to real life. But individually, these pieces are completely wearable. They are put together because it's a show.. a presentation of the materialized vision from which the pieces were designed from (or vice versa).
um THIS is what fashion is about, runway shows, and couture are not "wearable", it's about mixing runway pieces with regular pieces. It's all theatrics and extreme creativity, like art... and i don't care about your normal people (whatever the hell that is ) clothing, Marc Jacobs is practically god, he can do whatever the hell he wants, it's MARC JACOBSSSSS
also remember to consider how pieces would look separately. Not all ensembles are put together to show people how they should dress. Outfits are put together for the sake of the show and to really make sure the theme and purpose of the line and collection is communicated. remember that there is a line between runway and what is appropriate for the street.
I like marc a lot and a lot of the reason why i like him is becuz his pieces don't scream MARC JACOBS. I do have to say that this isnt one of my fav collections tho. He did a great job for LV's collection tho, I think. Most pieces def not wearable but still very bold and chic. fashion is about feeling good in what you're wearing. If someone else dismisses it just cuz they aren't impressed by the brand and u feel great in it, then rock it. name brand or target brand, shouldnt make a difference
the collections are really sophisticated, great to look but i dont its wearable.. but some of the evening dresses are great.. i think, the shoes are hard to walk on..
another poor collection from marc jacobs... just being honest, regardless how many idiots are going to thumb me down. barely anyone knows fashion on here anyways. it's sad to like a collection just because of the brand name though. that's brain wash for you...
there was once when i was in singapore....i was wearing a double breasted navy blue runway trench from burberry and was walking down orchard road in singapore...supposely the most fashionable area in singapore and people were like staring at me i had to keep saying its burberry runway piece...haha great xperince
you know your a lowlife when you question beautiful artistic fashion, and only think of it as status to impress your friends, who arent really your friends, you are worthless
The music was Rhapsody in Blue, and it's not about the designs here. All these shows are for is to tell you what fabric, cuts, colors etc. the designers next line is going to have, that's all.
So here, everything can be as over the top as they like. Some people just don't get that.
eventhough I myself don't like most of these clothes, I love the fact that people can think designs like these up. I especially like the one at 1:21. I hope my designs can be as amazing as these one day.
all of the pieces went nicley together, as well as apart. the whole collection was very european mixed with bohemian, to make an extriodianry statment. some of these peices are simlar to his earlier designs, which i hope will continue in the near future. his collections are amazing!
i feel like most of the clothes had a mary poppins feel that i really liked. it all seemed very wearable to me; anyone who knows about fashion knows you don't just take things straight from the runway to the street, you have to mix it up. also, loved the romantic drapiness of the last few dresses.
From the criticism i see, the way many of you think is completely one note! Fashion isnt just "OMG i love Marc Jacobs he's so cool! His clothes are so cute!" Take in mind his inspiration, his ability to redefine the way we think of dressing, the way he manipulates clothes so differently season after season, and then relate it to art. Fashion is not always about what you find wearable for yourself. Fashion is ART. If you cant see that...(which many of you dont) then you have a lot to learn!
So, the "canvases" should be so malnourished that they die ON the runway? That's not only stupid, it's extremely cruel. What you said is supremely ignorant and puts you in line with some of the cruelest people the human race has ever known. Congratulations. Canarygrl, I can't take you seriously.
Should I remind you that Marc Jacobs is owned by LVMH, and has to conform to certain business aims of its parent company? Jacobs is a commercial designer, representing a corporation, and has to produce a consumer item which, at some level, must fulfill the needs of the consumer. Kooshie is correct.
I didn't mean that with an ounce of sincerity. Although, you didn't address a single thing I said. You just went for lowbrow personal attacks which had nothing to do with my points, and have not a thing to do with the topic, which is Marc's spring collection. Finally, how dare you decide if I'm worthless or not. Grow up.
I was not directly speaking to you at first. I was addressing all the criticism that Marc was receiving here for his Spring 2009 collection. My point IS that Fashion is art. Hussein Chalayan, Nicholas Ghesquire...who are you to say what they do with clothing is not art? You cant fault me for believing you're a fucking idiot :D
At what point does the appearance negate the function of the item? Let's remember that clothing is meant to cover and allow the wearer to move freely - which these clothes do not. Look how the models struggle to keep straps up and balance on shoes. This isn't even beautiful - it's more like the world of a heavy drug user. It's a horrifying, misogynist view. There is no beauty in the product, no beauty in the idea, and no beauty in what it represents. Please, oh please, be quiet.
If fashion was reduced to function, there would be no art in it, only utility. Your concepts of beauty are relative and do not reflect any absolute standards.
Cruelty and misogyny? The job description of a fashion model entails that they 'become' the canvas' of designers. No one pities the tree destroyed to produce the paper an sketch artist uses to produce his work. Keep that in mind.
If you want clothes that only serve a functional basis, then I suggest you find the nearest Wal-Mart.
You're remarkably rude and elitist. How dare you demean people who shop at WalMart. Cross your fingers you never end up a member of the working poor (not that WalMart shoppers necessarily are; I don't mean to make generalizations). And, for instance, Jil Sander and Yves Saint Laurent produced functional, beautiful clothes. It's what YSL built his career on.
And furthermore, there ARE job safety standards here in North America, you know. The models deserve as much protection from harm as any of the rest of us. I bet you might sing a different tune if you fell and broke an ankle due to unsafe working conditions at a runway show, now wouldn't you?
I think you should sit down. And shut up. Malnourished models have nothing to do with the design, and philosophy behind the design. THAT is art. Apply your opinion somewhere else, you're worthless.
Wow you need to "shut up". How in the fucking hell is the malnourished models not having to anything with the design make it an art? Mkkkkay, bby~ you are dumb as fuck,(if you wanna play that rude name-calling game) so stop trying to sound like some knowledgeable fashionista who knows what she is talking because you obviously aren't, so go pick up a book or two and learn how to express AND defend your ignorant and unsubstantial opinions. Shoot and I'm through.
god they all look like mismatched skeletons, honestly, how can you call this coutoure latest fashion. I've seen amatuers with better sense of style!! His earlier stuff was better.
like i watched a documentary on him....... it was called marc jacobs and louis vuitton......umm i have to say i understand wheres he coming from he's showing pieces not the whole outfit the models are wearing notice if u see a print in an dress u will see it with a matching bag.... u know.... i love this dress but have nothing to match it u kow how that goes.... problem solved..... i love it
i love marc j. and i think that's how he wants the models to turn out like cause how the background is like they're just chilly walking around the city. i think this is great, period
Omg so much stuff to choose from. Come on guys you could mix and match alot of these pieces. They are lovely and fun. I so want those glasses. Great show!!Kept me well entertained.
i really like the bags and shoes, not too excited about the rest though. for spring, the colors are kinda dull, atleast to me. usually Marc is more colorful
Okay collection. His Fall collection of 2008 I still feel is better. Again I feel disappointed with his design this year. Although his colors are very young and I do enjoy his design of all skirts. But the upper portions themes only target medium to small breasted women. He is still selling kimono top influnces with seasonal plad. Each feature did not target all of women features although he does emphasize legs more than upper body this year. I am glad texture is back in.
The focus on these shows are the clothes. Most designers don't want sexy girls distracting from what they're trying to sell (i.e., they're more like hangers that make the clothes move); such is the way of the industry. Not all designers pick super skinny models, like Badgley Mischka and Tracy Reese
High Fashion(Runway models)are tall and skinny, it's the way it goes. Stop being lame. There are models that aren't toothpicks but that's your commercial print and editorials.
aint feelin it. but most likely it'll be representing much of whats going on next year. you know why? cause marc jacobs own a fuckin time machine. whaddup den, cuhhhhhz?!
Um, what the hell is original about any of this stuff? It looks like someone went shopping in a turn of the century thrift store and picked out random stuff and paired it with 20th century items that they sewed poorly on their grandmother's sewing machine. And what the heck was up with the left shoe on every single model? It looked like they were all trying not to fall because of some design flaw in the shoes.
Designers have thin models to show clothes not women's curves & concept of clothes because nothing on camera looks bad if it is on a stick you don' see flaws. His style is random not consistant. He does not think of women but style. Most designers don't think of women but style & art. The only one I think designs clothes for women is Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld, the features in his designs can hide or enhance a women's curves, assets, and flatness. Nut your right he designed for the model not women
ohh another thing. Being realistic, how many girls are skinny and tall like those models? I think those dresses would look better on a little move voluptuous women.
lol, so the outfits before 1:35 look like they belong to homeless people? That made me laugh so much. Idk if it because is to fashion forward for me but I agree.
They don't have a wow I should buy that kinda thing. (except for the dresses at the end, cause they're cool)
It's something worse than frumpy - it sort of defies words, really. Misogynist, heavily referential (read: badly copied from older designs), messy.. the lines are everywhere, the fabrics are discordant, and what's wrong with the shoes? Watch the models as they walk (the right shoe).
i'm still trying to figure out some kid of theme with the whole thing-nothing goes together in any way. it looks like a collection from a bad 90's designer that was big at the time that would be in a high school fashion design for dummies book. sorry marc jacobs, i love you, but oh dear. this is a hot mess.
In the full show, you notice how hard the models have to work to stay upright, and rock back & forth. And no, it's not a "walk", it's a young woman desperately trying to pull off flawed design. The shoes look almost like straits - shoes without left and right distinction. And you're right - it looks very amateurish. What is that silly man wearing at the end? Please, oh please, do not tell me it's a "skort". This collection screams of its origins in a drug addled brain.

And furthermore, there ARE job safety standards here in North America, you know. The models deserve as much protection from harm as any of the rest of us. I bet you might sing a different tune if you fell and broke an ankle due to unsafe working conditions at a runway show, now wouldn't you?
andrewjamesmacleod 3 years ago 2
I think you should sit down. And shut up. Malnourished models have nothing to do with the design, and philosophy behind the design. THAT is art. Apply your opinion somewhere else, you're worthless.

I think that you need to go milk a cow.
KooshieAlmond 3 years ago 2
Canarygirl - you did an excellent job of addressing, and refuting, each point as it came up. Good for you! : )
andrewjamesmacleod 3 years ago 2
Wow you need to "shut up". How in the fucking hell is the malnourished models not having to anything with the design make it an art? Mkkkkay, bby~ you are dumb as fuck,(if you wanna play that rude name-calling game) so stop trying to sound like some knowledgeable fashionista who knows what she is talking because you obviously aren't, so go pick up a book or two and learn how to express AND defend your ignorant and unsubstantial opinions. Shoot and I'm through.

i love marc j. and i think that's how he wants the models to turn out like cause how the background is like they're just chilly walking around the city. i think this is great, period

i think each peice on their own would look better, but that's just my taste
but marc jacobs is ecentric like that, his clothes are meant to be over the top or totally bland

i really like the bags and shoes, not too excited about the rest though. for spring, the colors are kinda dull, atleast to me. usually Marc is more colorful

i actually like the shirt at 1:07. that's probably the only thing though. definatly better then Betsy Johnson.

his Marc by Marc Jacobs line is so much better, these days anyway
more colorful, more playful, just all around nicer pieces

Okay collection. His Fall collection of 2008 I still feel is better. Again I feel disappointed with his design this year. Although his colors are very young and I do enjoy his design of all skirts. But the upper portions themes only target medium to small breasted women. He is still selling kimono top influnces with seasonal plad. Each feature did not target all of women features although he does emphasize legs more than upper body this year. I am glad texture is back in.
hmmyeah 3 years ago
The focus on these shows are the clothes. Most designers don't want sexy girls distracting from what they're trying to sell (i.e., they're more like hangers that make the clothes move); such is the way of the industry. Not all designers pick super skinny models, like Badgley Mischka and Tracy Reese
MimiWildflower 3 years ago

If you guys cant handle girls who arent obese or sophisticated clothes go to kmart or something! I loveee you Marc Jacobs!
SRPSKAG0RAZDANkA 3 years ago
Wow, I couldn't even see half the girls--they're much too skinny!
And the clothing... ehh... not something I'd ever be interested in.
SolenmSerpent 3 years ago
Designers have thin models to show clothes not women's curves & concept of clothes because nothing on camera looks bad if it is on a stick you don' see flaws. His style is random not consistant. He does not think of women but style. Most designers don't think of women but style & art. The only one I think designs clothes for women is Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld, the features in his designs can hide or enhance a women's curves, assets, and flatness. Nut your right he designed for the model not women
hmmyeah 3 years ago 2
These models look exactly like teenage boys, which is probably what fashion designers are most attracted to. Go figure!
kellerjohns 3 years ago 2
ohh another thing. Being realistic, how many girls are skinny and tall like those models? I think those dresses would look better on a little move voluptuous women.
dnangelical 3 years ago
lol, so the outfits before 1:35 look like they belong to homeless people? That made me laugh so much. Idk if it because is to fashion forward for me but I agree.
They don't have a wow I should buy that kinda thing. (except for the dresses at the end, cause they're cool)

there's all this hype about this collection but its super frumpy...
melonrageous 3 years ago 5
It's something worse than frumpy - it sort of defies words, really. Misogynist, heavily referential (read: badly copied from older designs), messy.. the lines are everywhere, the fabrics are discordant, and what's wrong with the shoes? Watch the models as they walk (the right shoe).
andrewjamesmacleod 3 years ago
hallelujah.
i'm still trying to figure out some kid of theme with the whole thing-nothing goes together in any way. it looks like a collection from a bad 90's designer that was big at the time that would be in a high school fashion design for dummies book. sorry marc jacobs, i love you, but oh dear. this is a hot mess.
(i didn't notice the shoes before, damn.)
melonrageous 3 years ago
In the full show, you notice how hard the models have to work to stay upright, and rock back & forth. And no, it's not a "walk", it's a young woman desperately trying to pull off flawed design. The shoes look almost like straits - shoes without left and right distinction. And you're right - it looks very amateurish. What is that silly man wearing at the end? Please, oh please, do not tell me it's a "skort". This collection screams of its origins in a drug addled brain.
