Mandrill, Tower of Power, Santana early Kool & the Gang were all contemporaries. However only Mandrill and Santana tried to deeply mine the Aftr/Latin Rock vein and each did to varying success. There's no single musciian in Mandrill that was/is Carlos' equal or superior, however Mandrill to me is the better band. Horns, fire, the Wilson Brothers... and they had cats that could sing. They did it all. "Mandrill Is" is as good a second album to me as Santana's "Abraxas". Give it a listen. Worf.
fusion in sense and senses. meltiing in one tribe called America. Rhythms as full as a new mothers bossum with each of us begging to be the infant to absorpt more of the rhythm that is Mandrill. We should be glad we were afforded this experience. Too bad the youngums can't match it.
I was being fed a bottle of carnation when this joint came out. Lol. I happen to have this on vinyl, too that I brought from a spot that sells records only.
Thank you for the post.

Thing is Mandrill came out in 1969...before Santana, Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire and War. So I think these groups sound like Mandrill!!!

@punkinpixy Santana was at Woodstock. Wasn't that in 1969? They were originally called Santana Blues Band.
