now unless you actually compiled the rest of the song in a different program and rewired or imported it, the whole middle of the song was just cut from the cd (now im only assuming but usually its way easier to build all that from multiple tracks instead of compiling so I think you just edited the main parts)
I have recreated some of the mixes using Traktor 5. You cannot do some of the effects, e.g. voice at the start, but you can still create the great tunes!
i have an korg Ea-1 and a key bored, but the key borded i cant get working on live 8 but it worked on 7,im trying to get trigger finger,or find som1 dat would trade for my Ea-1
BRILLIANT. I've been killing myself trying to switch over to Ableton Live porting over individual parts of all of my songs to individually mix. This makes much MUCH more sense.
this is crazy, almost an exact replecant, this must of took some time to master it in almost the exact sound of the cd. well yeah even behind all those robot costumes Daft Punk was just djing their performance with some tweaks, they barely any mixin if any involved.
i would like to comment about the "fuck it" section of alive 2007:
it isnt actually anything other that the samples of "chip unlock it" and "find it" cut and put together, thus, if you listen carefully enough on the cd you will hear "flock it" - just pointing this out as i am bored and it is 10:30 at night! lol M
Amazing! It would be so great if you could upload a very high res video of the youtube video, to see what you do in the plugins and stuff. Still learning Live (but who isn't) ;)
You need to stutter the R-r-r-r-rock during the segue into Oh yeah. This is amazing! Seriously awesome work... that's the only flaw that I found. Sick!
this is awesome. I am think about doing something like this and get Ableton Live 7. Its pretty amazing to be able to do all that just from the simple track off the CD.
Amazing man, i wonder if you could upload this as a Live Session (ableton format) somewhere, it would be very useful for Ableton Live noobs (like me), c'mon plz plz!
just remembered if it's all as easy as u say can you do a clash be tween daft punk and the white stripes both great duos the requested are 7 nation army and hbfs plz.
the funniest thing about a lot of ableton users is, they always clip the master. if you're running everything at 16 bit, you need to have a -6db minimum on each track. if you use 24 bit, I'd use -12db because it gives you more definition and allows for more transients. It gives you more wiggle room in the bottom. Just use a compressor with a little gain to bring the bottom up wen the mix gets quiet.
Ay I've wanted to do this for a while now, how long did it take all together? Any idea if Daft Punk is triggering the everything in real time or if arrangement view is used some? Anyways, love to see this, top notch.
Nice one! im sure this would hve done wonders for your learning curve? hve been using Ableton for a no' of years now, came free with my M-AUDIO sound module for p.c. Still learning something new everyday with it, hands down..this the most complete user friendly sample/song arranger to date, spend more time on this than pro tools or cubase, if your into making films Ableton & AVID make a good pair.
This is amazing!! It sounds so much like the real thing, and yea they did use Moogs to filter it but still this is awesome! I was considering using Ableton Live for my sets, I use MixMiester now (lol), but now I see that it doesnt look too complicated to use.
geez... I should learn how to use MY Ableton. it came free with something my pop bought from a guitar catalog, but we never had the guts to try anything more than the first tutorial.
this monday i downloaded the album, daft punk have said that they used ableton on their sets, im a ableton fan user, and its clearly the use of ableton daft punk rules!
they use behringer midi controllers inside the pyramid to control the samples that are in their ableton software which is stored in towers offstage. then it gets sythesised through the moogs. i wanna get me some of those
How do you program the filters to hit on the mark? Been trying to and how did you get those samples? were they ripped from the beginning of the track?
Where did u get the Human and Robot samples from???... if it where from the original songs how did u cut the instruments sound and kept with the voice only??... Nice work btw... XD
Of course. I do DJing on the side as a hobby, mashing up lots of songs, and it's extremely time consuming. Just last night I DJed a 1 hour set that took a couple of months of diligent work to create, to really make it sound good and flow well. I did this to see how they did it, and to learn a lot about Ableton Live. A love of Daft Punk helps too =)
can you share the rack?

How did you recreate the beginning of Robot Rock ? (00:00----->1:10)
LifeDaft 2 years ago
Using bits of Robot Rock and Human After All. Turn the tempo down to around 30-40 BPM, add a couple of beat repeats, and gradually bring it up.
I'm guessing.
WastBarktender 2 years ago
@WastBarktender it's just the vocals slowed down using "beats" warp mode, that's how you get that gritty, transient heavy sound ...

Would you possibly know if Daft Punk uses Arrangement view, like you, and then just plays around with effects, like you?
Or de they do the "DJ" way of loading up the songs into Session View and then triggering each part?
SyvSto 2 years ago
I think that is how Daft Punk does it, yes. I heard once that the lights are about 50% live as well.
oratowsky 2 years ago
where did you get the all the stems for the tracks? like the "robot and human" samples

it's actually "lock it fill it" looped so it's "fock it", at least that's how I did it.
i.e., the loop starts at "ock" and ends at the "f" in "fill", so it sounds like fuck.
oratowsky 3 years ago
Yes, I'm pretty sure that's the way they do it.

hoy do you make the stutter effect?
did you do like a cut and paste thing?
or is it a pluggin or effect?
debjules 3 years ago
If you mean the Rooooobbbooooottt thing at the start, the "robot" sample is set to "Beats" and the tempo slowly increases.
Or if you mean a "stutter effect", that is pretty much the "Beat Repeat" plugin in Live.
