Man I liked them both ... With Roth it was fun music that was just cool , didn't really have any meaning just fun music . With Hagar it was cool guitar riffs , great lyrics and alot of energy . So I agree with Beowulf151 just enjoy the tunes man !!!!
While 5150 was great, I thought this album was probably the best Hagar era album. I mean, it kept VH relevant when 80's rock died down and grunge and rap took over the music world.
Van Halen kicks serious ASS! Good song right there. That album was going to be named "Fuck," but they wanted Van Halen to name it "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" or F.U.C.K. Good album!
This fuckin song grabs me by the balls , whips me against the wall , chases me down and finishes off the notational beating by spiraling into a spiritual wall of sound unrivaled by mere mortal music preceding or following.
I think both Sammy and Dave are amazing singers and I am getting really tired of these constasnt fights between the 2 groups of fans. They are on every friggin song here its annoying just sit back and enjoy the friggin song.
this is my 2nd favorite Van Hagar song! the first is "Summer Night's"! sorry people i grew up back in the day when Roth was the lead singer!! peace to all !!!
Hey, I saw it done with my own eyes (the drill thing) at the Powerstation in Burbank, CA.! It was at the first rehearsal for that tour. He uses the drill on the top of the neck and then drags the pick down the strings! Its real and it is so friggin' cool to see!!!! By the way experiencing that rehearsal was.... well it was almost surreal, man!!!! Thanks to Edward VH and Scotty Ross for giving me that gift of a lifetime!!!!!
@zackdawak21 He uses an electric drill. Same as Paul Gilbert does on Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy. And in fact both Paul and Billy Sheehan play the solo together using a power drill each which has three picks on it. Eddie 'borrowed' the idea from Paul for this album, but Paul does it much better than Eddie.
This is all verifiable. You just gotta jump on wikipedia and look up drill. Then scroll down to 'unusual uses'.
26 years later the morons are STILL debating the Roth/Hagar thing???? Its 2011, guys.....cut off your mullets, trade in the acid wash jeans and just enjoy the music.
Reminds me of the summer it came out. I took a college math class that was self-paced. You told the instructor what your major was and he circled the tests you had to take. You could use the whole semester or take 'em all in one day and if you passed, you were done. I took and passed all my tests over about a week and a half and said goodbye. LOL
@ManicNirvana90 Let the titles Jump, Runnin' with the devil and dance the night away jump across your mind. Both era's had wonderful music, you can't take the away.
Both David Lee Roth and Sammi Hagar were great singers in their time with Van Halen, but Sammi was better solo than David!! personally I like Sammy Hagar better, but David Lee Roth was damn good in VH(VH and 1984)
when this song was released, it just fucking smoked and annihilated the speakers of any stereo is was being played out of. this was Van Halen at their epitome, their fuckin' prime. Sammy smoked up all the nonbelievers like a rolled up blunt, and took this album to being named 1991 album of the year. Van Halen was so fucking red hot during this time. No other band could hold a candle to them, and in my opinion, still cant.
@TheDorianTormak underrated? i think being considered top 10 greatest rock bands of all time isnt exactly underrated. and their album sales speak for themselves.
First of all this song came out in 1991dipshit!!! so I find it very interesting how you saw this song at monsters of rock concert in the late eighties. Plus Van halen weren't doing monster of rock tours back then. Next time you decide to lie like a douchebag get you're facts straight fuck face.

This album is ok...Not a big fan of the songs on this album...eddies guitar riffs are still there however I find the guitar to distant sounding on this album and Im not crazy about eddies guitar sound...its to mechanical sounding on this album...overall I would give the album a 6 out of 10...not great but doesnt suck either.
(first 16 seconds) eddie walks into the studio and pops a cassette tape into a recorder...."aint that sum shit,..you ready to go?,..lets do it...alright!"
@CavenEdwards This was a great album. i loved david lee. but unlike most bands who lose there front man, van halen was just as good....david lee liked to do alot of covers from what i heard. The band is who pushed for originals.
@sneak108 actually, dave never really bothered to learn the words to covers for a lot of his time in van halen, unless it was one he knew well already.
I don't get it. Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers saw some of the best players ever go through it's ranks and no one ever complained that the sound changed drastically depending on who was in the band at the time. Miles, Santana, Deep Purple; same thing. Hell, Zappa went thru more changes than Madonna's wardrobe and people got on board. VH changed lead singers and people started having conniptions and drawing lines in the sand. Stupid! Enjoy it for what it is, folks, and not what it isn't. Peace.
like eddie didn't suck a little anyway... he def needed both of those guys, who are both SUPER def not as talented musically as eddie but way better at sex and drugs. there are really awesome songs all over the place. t would be a shame if any of those guys have any regrets because shit, to be in that band cold kickin it live would beat walking on the moon any day of the week and not a lot of people, even other rock stars, or astronouts have known what it is like to play this stuff to a crowd.
I remember racing to the record store to by the CD on the day it came out only to be met by some over chatty record store guy wanting me to guess what the background on the cover was...pigskin wasn't on my mind I just wanted to pay for it and go home and play it. Had to wait until November before they came to town along with a young new band at the time, Alice in Chains.
Van Halen with Dave is a different band than their time with Hagar. The sound with Hagar is more produced. With Dave it was looser and rougher.
