  • Project GreenBag is the sustainable, eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags. 100% organic cotton, biodegradable, and made in the USA.

  • Take one of those re-usable bags,, use it to haul home some beef, fish, chicken, fruit, veggies for a week or two,,,,then put it under a microscope.

  • Or we could just use incineration to get rid of that and all other substances that don't compose.. If you get rid of plastic are garbage dumps are still garbage dumps? Why do you care what they look like... You want our garbage dumps to look prettier?? haha good luck with that.. it's called "garbage" for a reason.

  • Video of that garbage dump here

    [dot]youtube[dot]com/watch?v=uLrVCI4N67M

  • You can easily replace everything with paper or starch plastic, it just needs to be competitively priced with petroleum plastic in order to get bought. What we need is corporations willing to to create biodegradable polymers to fit all our needs. In the meantime just reuse all your plastic bags as much as possible, try washing them out like anything else, and buying paper.

Plastic is a huge problem!!! Our ocean is a garbage dump.

  • Everybody pull out your check book and go to the store now. Buy Incedecent Bulbs and plastic bags in bulk.

Use your bags to pick up dog poop? 5-10 cents a bag is cheaper than the glad brand, so at the check-out say "I'll take 1000 bags please". That's $50 and it's tax free. They can't say no because of the way the law is worded.

  • I agree with this decision, and hope it goes nationwide. Even if people are inconvenienced by using reusable cloth bags it will be worth it in the long run. Now if they can just get rid of plastic water and soda bottles.

  • Sounds like these are the same environmentalist whackjobs who came up with the slogan, "Save a tree and switch to plastic bags." Ah, California!

  • California uses 19 billion plastic bags every year! Instead of wasting our resources on collecting, recycling and disposing of these inconvenient and damaging to our environment products, we should get rid of them. It is illogical to continue using plastic bags for 10 minutes and then leaving them in our environment for 500 years or more! We should ban plastic bags today and move on. The ban will save marine life and create jobs at the reusable bag companies.

  • Everything in our lives causes some form of pollution. Even youtube burns fossil fuels.

The only way to stop pollution is to reject modernity. Like those fools who don't want us to use toilet paper. You're not going to solve anything by banning plastic bags. What about ziplok bags? What about garbage bags? What about every product that is packaged in plastic?

What about the marijuana you liberals smoke? Every-time I see it on tv, it appears to be wrapped in plastic.

  • @cjbos81

Not everyone who smokes marijuana is a Liberal. I'm sure there are several Republicans who smoke everyday.

  • @cjbos81 Youtube video ..cptblake's pooh in one..

Eliminates plastic bags for picking up after dogs

  • @cjbos81 The immediate goal is not to stop pollution, it's to reduce pollution. So this ban is perfectly reasonable, even though it doesn't take into consideration the garbage bags. Also, it would be chaotic to ban all plastics at once. That is why California is taking little steps and only incorporating the wasteful plastics into this ban. Of course, trash bags could be disappearing soon. In fact, hopefully they will. Why can't Americans just use trash bins? Why use bags?

  • @cjbos81 Americans could just empty their trash cans into the bigger bins outside. Not only does it save Americans money, it also reduces pollution. Two in one benefit!

  • @cjbos81 You're right that society damages the environment, and this can't be fixed entirely. What I don't understand is why that's an argument for not fighting the problem whatsoever. Surely reducing the effects if only a little (and world wide this would actually be significant) by removing something useless is always good thing, even if there are other problems it doesn't address. Can you help me with that?

Also hahaha at the marijuana joke.

  • So it's worth it for over 100's of people to potentially lose their jobs? People are so backwards.

  • ALDI stores have been doing this for yr.s including charging a few cents to use their buggy's. Some of you are rooting now, yeah wait when they up the price ridiculous on one damn plastic bag. Some people want to knock others who use them, well I use them. After bringing them home from the store we store them and use them all over again for a various of things within the home. Hell we already actually pay 4 plastic bags when we buy groceries, just like condiments when you get fast food.- Stolee

  • did i just see the grocery store pack their products in paper AND plastic? thats just stupid.

  • It's a great idea. There's no reason why they shouldn't pass it.

  • @mohammadbanibaker i recently went on vacation to china and when to a super market and they already had this in place. the city i went to is not nearly as nice as california and they already were charging people for plastic bags.

  • California shut the fuck up. The only reason why stores like the idea is because they'll have a reason to make you pay for bags to get your stuff to your house. You know what will come after this? Ban on anything made of plastic, then bans on paper. Oh, and while all you people think you are being environmentally friendly you should be more concerned about the fact that all your biodegradable stuff, is being thrown away and sealed in a plastic trash bags but, notice how that isn't a problem.

  • @Grey4920 Good to see someone w/ common sense that can see the bigger picture & not be so quick to fall for everything that's claimed to be environ. friendly. People are acting as if "going green" is the new, this thing is repeated every so often in a decade & people become suckers for anything said to "help the earth". The things that would make a difference are never tackled because govern. doesn't want to spend that $ instead they go off on small things like this as a diversion.- Stolee

  • It's not necessarily the Government, I've never felt like it needed to have a law put on it but, the fact is as you said people buy into this little crap that won't do anything other than waste our money on something that won't even work. This would all make sense if trash bags were Biodegradable but, since they aren't this law proves to be unthoughtful and made in a short amount of time.

  • @Grey4920 Plastic trash bags are a problem; however, there's no popular solution. When a solution presents itself, then you'll hear about it. Also, if people are using the reusable bags, they won't be continually paying. Paper bags may cost 5 cents each with this bill, but many stores, like Target, actually deduct 5 cents each time one shops with a reusable bag.

  • @meswr And do you honestly think that they will continue that when everyone uses reusable bags?

  • @Grey4920 Okay, you got me there. I doubt stores will. However, I still don't see the big problem behind this ban. In Europe, reusable has already become common practice. In San Francisco, plastic bags are already banned. Why do you see banning the plastic shopping bag as such a bad thing?

  • @meswr It's not the ban that's the bad thing, it's their alternative that they will be using when their primary will fail. That way they can unnecessarily charge you for them. Their wouldn't even be this problem if those who produce the eco friendly "plastic" bags weren't charging so much for them. They could fix a lot of problems with plastic waste out there already, the companies charge too much for their alternative products.

  • @Grey4920 Stores are not for the ban because they'll be able to charge us; they support the ban because it means they save money on not purchasing plastic bags.

  • @meswr And if they get to charge us then they won't lose money on the bags and honestly plastic bags are very inexpensive and if they are losing money and going bankrupt on plastic bags alone than the whole thing is going to tank anyway.

  • @Grey4920 According to "Myth: Plastic Bags Are Free" from reuseit.com, the cost of the plastic bag is actually $4 billion for US retailers; however, through higher prices the cost is passed on to the consumer, a practice which closely resembles hidden taxes. Therefore, stores can avoid losing a profit by raising the prices of products. So, I would imagine lower prices will be the result of this ban.

  • @meswr 4 Billion dollars combined maybe. I can pick up 10,000 custom plastic bags for $70. That's for what some stores consider luxury bag because they can put their logo on it. Not to mention some companies can either make their own or get special deals. The ban wouldn't even drive down prices for items, they would leave them as is because it's more money in their pockets without you noticing the fact that the price is the same.

  • I think I like this. Making people pay for pollution is probably the surest way of stopping it.

  • Companies that produce plastic bag should consider making bags out of other material that are biodegradable. Adapting to the business environment is part of capitalism. What would they do when the next generation hyped on environmentalism start refusing to use bags made out of plastic? Are they going to throw in towel?! They can whine about it or do something and the have until 2012.

  • Hopefully all states will follow or there will be a Federal ban.

  • can we SURVIVE WHIIMER :(

  • plastic police is here!

  • good idea!!
