  • sure if the Elven King 5:26 isnt a goblin too+

  • That pisses me off, they really copped out of Shelob's Lair, one of my favorite scenes from the movie and book!

  • @slanted89 Maybe because that part is in the two towers?

  • god i hate that bard

  • 3:41 Confusing Bilbo? Maybe because this is a rushed Job that tells only the end of the tale.

  • hahahahaha gollum looks like a cute little frog :P

  • I used to be a Ring Carrier, but then i took an gandalf to the knee!

  • @EntryProductions me to, except without the ring part, i just took one to the knee, LOL

  • 1:54 Yeah... He's the one character that looks right.

  • Always loved the animated Gandalf's voice!

  • Elrond looks fucking hillarious.

  • The orcs look so ridiculous it's hard to take this animation serious.

    This is so terrible.

  • @Andreazor I grew up with the animated Hobbit, and it uses the same style.

I understand where you're coming from, but It's way too nostalgic for me, I highly recommend watching the Hobbit anyways, it's actually quite fantastic in it's ridiculousness.

  • Did they even read the book? They sure as hell didn't understand it. What an awful job.

  • Me for a good smoke while I watch. Legalize it!

  • Is anybody watching all of these back to back?

  • they're taking the Hobbits to Isengard!

  • i can't believe I got as far in as the mispronunciation of Cirith Ungol before deciding this was *too* awful to watch...

  • @ndchristie How should you pronounce it then?

  • Man, all the times I've watched this! I know it word for word!

  • Good God that's Casey Kasem playing one of the hobbits...and what's with the halo of stars around Elrond...geez this is terrible.

  • 8:36 *fap fap fap fap*

  • I thought Smaug was a dragon and not a cute kitty. :D

  • @Yoruko88 Listen and watch Smaug in the Hobbit animated. He's pretty badass

  • Now I know where South Park got the inspiration for the ballad during last season's Lemmiwinks episode, lofl.

  • @chaosdecides took the words right out of my mouth

  • Merriadoc sounds like he'd rather be announcing tonight's Top 10 Musical Countdown

  • why do they have such big noses. I never remember the books even commenting on their noses.

  • Should have left the ring with Smaug, good luck getting it then.

  • @Astronaughty03 Hahahahahaha

  • @Astronaughty03 or Eagles, they could take it to Eagle kindom,.

  • @Astronaughty03 Smaug would have given it to Sauron. The reason Gandalf want Smaug gone was because he would aid Sauron.

  • Smaug did not guard the ring, Golem did.

  • *glowing red light at the start*

    THNDERCATS HOOOOO!

  • So it goes from the Lord of the rings in 1978 and then to the sequel in 1980 but the sequel has a different art style? That same one in the Hobbit. So it was made by different people but is a direct sequel still? Merry and Pippin look comepletely different!

  • @DJogdog Actually, it acts as an 'unofficial' sequel to the 1978 film. When Ralph Bakshi was unable to get the green light for the second part of his Lord of the Rings (originally affixed with a 'part1' on the title) saga, the makers of The Hobbit decided to ride on the cult following of Bakshi's film.

  • haha "That terrible Gollum chap"

  • I liked the orcs in the first movie more.

  • I got this movie on my channel in better quality and the full movie in 1 part ;)

  • this movie is really bad, the god damn singing, childish drawings. its like the whole thing was made for 5 year old kids.

  • @AuntySemitist What the ... Omfg, you really got no frikin idea of cartoon movies. Never watched "The last Unicorn", one of the most high rated cartoon movies of its time? Giving a hint, its the same design studio. Just go back under your stone, far far away, and leave us alone with your unqualified opinion. Thanks.

  • @FlameJackstar Dont know where you got your degree in film critiquing... Just because a design studio had one good film does not mean that every movie they make is good, fool. You think all the prequel star wars a great films because the originals were? Idiot fanboy

  • @AuntySemitist Stfu, haterboy. :D I didn't say that the studio is good just because of one movie. Theyre interpretion of LOTR is great, too. It is drawn in a very lovely and detailed way, quite nice animations/frames for 1980's and surely NOT something for 5 year old kids, either childish. You have just no idea of cartoons, thats it.

And leave Star Wars out of this...! No frikin relation.

  • @FlameJackstar

The animated "Lord of the Rings" was done by Ralph Bakshi. It was supposed to be "Lord of the Rings Part 1" but the movie studio which released it wouldn't title it as such. Bakshi never got to finish his work. Then, Rankin-Bass did this version of "Return of the King."

  • @AuntySemitist it's the fact that the people animating it clearly were talented at figure drawing and drawing exact people but had little to no experience in cartooning. or animation for that matter.

  • Hahaaaaa. Elrond is wasted.

  • both sets of films have good and bad parts to them

  • ... uhh, uhm, eh..

  • R3TR0 LOTR cool didn't know this existed

  • oh gag.....horrible. I like the real version.....

    .

  • @MsClaraBug how is the new version the real version? In fact the books can be said to be the real version.

  • @MsClaraBug The book is the "real" version.

  • lol terrible

  • no shelob then? wank.

  • While Bakshi's "Lord of the Rings" was pretty faithful and at parts even good animated adaptation of the story, this isn't. Anyway, Saruman/Aruman doesn't shoot fireballs from Orthanc. But he doesn't do magic wrestling with Gandalf either, so whatever version you like the best, it's never the serious affair of the book. The fun comes from the hobbits, who are cheerful even at the face of death. No surfing the Mumaks' trunks there.

  • Where's the rest?

  • The ministral of Gondor, Don Mclean!

  • watch as u see the raise of dark and fall of a king of light

  • I just remembered watching this when I was little! I thought Bilbo was an old lady, too.

  • I remember watching this company's version of The Hobbit, I really loved that movie...

  • When I was a kid, I ain't never seen no shit like this movie!! Or heard of Lord of the Rings... So from that perspective, this movie will always hold a special place for me. It's really a piece of art for what it is, it's so dark!!

  • I've always supported Sauron against those EVIL hobbits!

  • LoL the orcs is so wired...

  • I can see some similarities with the people in Thundercats.

  • @GOTH86 Same animation studio: Rankin/Bass

  • @ancalites I know that's why I said It xD

  • i have and read every masterpiece by Tolkien, and out of the visual adaptations, i STILL prefer P.Jacksons. no critic, professor or any1 elses opinion matters on what U like or prefer except ur own. i sooo would like to see Tom Bombadil tho. just love that character. would be nice if jackson threw him in, as well as his wife. in many ways he reminds me of the absent minded professor LOL

  • @MARVIA35 gold berry was his WIFE????

    disgusting lecher

  • where the fuck cna i get the rest

I got blueballs now because i dont know what happens next(in the animated version)

  • who resposnible for the art

  • All I heard at 4:30 to 8:21 was "Trololololol".

  • Ummmm… I hope that song doesnt go on forever.... I have it in my head now. Frodo and the nine fingers... Ugh

  • "so...confusing"

just about sums this movie up

  • when does the minstrel get to the part about the gerbil prince and the catatafish?

  • The minstrel is wrong about one thing. It actually started with the Dark Lord Sauron on his dark throne.

  • zoinks merry!!!!!!

  • Why does the return of the king cartoon look completely different from the fellowship of the ring and the two towers cartoon?

  • @beardedgecko987 it was made by different people

  • I understand that this might be interesting to some people; but.. I.. I can't stand this.

  • and suddenly thunder thunder thunder thundercats ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • oh God, the minstrel of Gondor lol

  • @mario5733 (THUMP) ....and there was much rejoicing.

  • wheres part 3 4 5 6 7 89 10

  • "Frodo of the nine fingers, and the ring of doom..... Why does he have nine fingers? Where is the ring of doom?" So many questions, especially why he's missing a finger. xD

  • @Fudokaps

I hope you are joking? It says part 1, watch all parts and your questions are answered

  • do the wood elfs look like orcs still?

  • I know after the newer movies were released a few people don't like this interpretation but we weren't inundated in films back in the day. This movie and 'The Hobbit' were all we had besides the books (I read them countless times) and it inspired my artwork, my writing, and my sculpture since. I was delighted to see this again and will be hitting Ebay for these movies.

  • I like the fact the return of the king unlike the fellowship has miore the hobbit animation feel

  • i only watch this to hear john huston

  • yeeeeah thank you god for peter jackson

  • They could have done without the minstrel with that annoying reverb!

  • "Elrond the elf lord, who previous to scene had banged his head,"

  • Why do the Baggins's have such large pupils?

  • @scockery might just be the style of art. I think this was a cartoon made more for little kids

  • @GuitarMusicV Yeah, but I meant like compared to the other characters. Must be some family trait!

  • Frodoooo of the niiiine fingers, and the ring of dooooom.

  • This is Meriadoc Brandybuck, giving you the best top 40 of the 70s and the 80s.

  • @FreakDaMIghet what the hell is going on? i thought the second film just told what happened to the fellowship and stopped unless it goes straight to mount doom. can someone please explain this to me please? i only saw the hobbit.

  • @able2ful1, Return of the King was the THIRD movie. The second one has Frodo and Sam meeting Golum, Arigon, Gimli and Legolas go looking for Merry and Pipin and fight in the battle of Helms Deep and a bunch of trees kick Lord Sarumans ass back to Attack of the Clones, (Christopher Lee joke) Other then that, nothing really happens. If I'm missing something, guys. Please tell me.

  • @able2ful1, Also, the begining of this starts at the END of Return of the King, then backtracks to the start were Two Towers left off.

  • All a bit too dramatic... don't you think?

  • Now I know where Dragon's lair came from....

  • Ha! At 3:38 Frodo has his finger back lol

  • And meanwhile Merry and Pippin are still there waiting for some cake.

  • elrond looks high as fuck.

  • @Ferny84 my thoughts exactly! ROLF!

  • Everyone in this film has a huge schnozz.

  • Elrond has a beard. O_O

  • This is absolutely a terrible interpretation in my opinion, although it is the original.

  • John Huston will always be the voice of Gandalf to me. Dude was a real-life wizard and wise man.

  • Although nothing compares to Ian McKellen as Gandalf, the guy who does the voiceover for this Gandalf does a fantastic job.

  • Awesome, it's the best version of LOTR.

  • Peter jackson kicks the crap out of any other adaption of the lord of the rings.

  • @myKyuubischild Bullshit

  • Thumbs up if you only remembered the song from this and had to look it up by the lyrics.

    And the ring of DOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!

  • @mrsiepel1 yeah. Doom.

  • odd the hobbit cartoon of 1977 had a diffrent look to it than the fellowship of ring i meen biblo looked nothing like he did in the hobbit now in the return of the king it looks like they used the same format because bilbo looks like an older version of what he looked lik in the hobbit

  • @rulemadman123 That is because the funders of the first film cut their funds and the original animator Ralph Baskhi discontinued the animated first two LotR books version. What also explains your confusion: this 'Return of the king'-version was planned as a sequel to 'The Hobbit'. IMHO: most characters were animated better in the Bakshi predecessor (especially the orks and the Rohirrim).

  • @sendanor I couldn't stand the Ralph Baskhi version - I think filming actors then simply tracing them makes for cheap-looking animation. The voice actors are better IMO in these versions, the artwork is beautiful and not rotoscoped all to hell.

  • @Sakyosha it may had seen like cheap animation, but i bet they've spend 3/4 to go to spain, hire over 70 rotoscoping actors, film the battle scenes, make the costumes, and to pay the trip back home to edit the film and trace it all over it.

just because it's motly rotoscoping, doesnt mean it looked awful, some scenes looked beatiful, Bakshi tought of doing rotoscoping only for the battle scenes, then animated tradicionally the rest, but he choose rotoscoping as an art form.

  • @rulemadman123

    its not odd.

its because it was competely different unlreated movies.

    not sequels.

The Lord of the Rings (which was Fellowship and most of Two Towers) was made by Ralph Bakshi.

The Hobbit, and Return of the King were made by Rankin/Bass.

  • Those little lights dancing around Elrond's head make him look drunk out of his damn mind.

  • I wonder what hapend to part 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and 10

  • maby Elrond doesn't look like spartacus, like some say but that doesn't take away he looks like an freaking rusian vampire instead of an elf

  • shadowmark27 why do you say that Elrond looks like Spartacus?

  • These animations sucked so hard. It's almost as bad as Anime.

  • @USN1985dos you should see the animation for the 1980's version of "Lord of the Rings"

  • the voices of sam mary and pipin are terrible

  • As ridiculous as this version can be at times, it IS a legitimate interpretation of the books. I like to think of it as a kid's Beginner's Guide to The Lord of the Rings, and something that hardcore adult fans can enjoy as another telling of this much-loved story. Kids loved this way before PJ's ever came out, and it made people read the books. I see this as well as Ralph Bakshi's LOTR as precursors to PJ's, which in my opinion is a masterpiece which brings the books to life in a different way.

  • @daffodil977 This actually was a kids guide for me. i really didnt understand how involved the Hobbit and the LOTR stories were until I read the books and saw the jackson films. I wish they had elaborated on Aragorn and the other more. I really didnt like Aragorn in this cartoon because he seemed that honorable and we really didnt see how great a warrior he was. And that the story was actually about him regaining the throne of Gondor.

  • @daffodil977 well, you don't really want to "begin" with a movie cuz then you'll never read the books!!!

  • @daffodil977 my university professor (I took a class based entirely on the world of Tolkien) was absolutely in love with these movies. He couldn't stop raving about how much better they are than Jackson's trilogy due to how accurate they are. I watched them probably 5 years ago, but only recently went back and watched them again

  • Lol they did a number on Sam!!! XD

Love how the characters that were in The Hobbit look the same in this one.

    (Same company, I know.) :)))

  • thank god Elrond doesnt look like spartacus again

  • do u have the hobit?

  • Sam looks like Gimli.

  • I love the music from 3:19 to 3:41. It sounds so spacey, like Pink Floyd's "More" soundtrack...its so psychedelic.

  • Aww, it's been so long since I last watched this movie! So nostalgic~ But where is the rest of the movie? Are the parts 2 - 10 (by this same account) not uploaded yet or were erased?

  • I can't believe how bad this is. I remembered it as bad, but wow.

  • i love that introduction of gandalf's as it pretty sums up the entire relevance and aspects of the books, good against evil, the fall of a dark emperor of shadows and evil and the return of the bright light of hope and men, which forms the world we call earth today.

  • This cartoon is a dramitazation of the Defeat of the Moors.

  • The Minstrel of Gondor is such a fucking badass.

  • i just found the record with the 12 page read along inside cleanning my grandma's places jackpot

  • ... and was intended to be a two-part film. However, people felt misled because it wasn't explicitly stated as being half of the story and were dissapointed, so the second half was cut. Then R/B came back and did the last volume as a film.

Also, the "other book" you're referring to that came after the Lord of the Rings was the Silmarillion. It's never been depicted in film (at least to my knowledge).

  • 4 ring Wraiths disliked this.

  • when are you uploading the rest of the movie? The dialogue is great!

  • Do....do I hear Leonard Nimoy???? Spock, is that you?

  • @taytonclait If you're referring to Gandalf, that's John Huston.

  • @taytonclait

If you mean the voice of Gandalf, then no. Gandalf was voiced by John Huston.

  • Why the fuck does Pippin look like a monkey.

  • @rangey18 yeah i like billy boyd a little more

  • @rangey18 YEA! Pippin was my favorite!

  • @rangey18 I THOUGHT THE SAME THING

  • @rangey18 Why does Golem look like a frog?

  • @rangey18 The same reason you cannot spell the name correctly.

  • @panzersherk12 why is pippin a monkey

  • @panzersherk12 Because certain mythologies have creatures called Gaulem, which are creatures made of frogs. Golems though, are kinda different, they are human made creatures that act as gaurdians, they are from Jewish mythology. I am not entirley certain which mythology the Gaulem is from, nordic perphaps.

  • i wish bakshi directed this one

but someone tell me if this is the same guy who did the hobbit

because the characters look exactly the same as in the hobbit like elron is tall and looks like a methhead with those rings across him and gollum is that weird mutant frog with ears.

not trying to offend the movie

  • @SombreroKing100 dude its the same voice actors, style, and the same drawings as the hobbit cartoon

lol how could it be anyone else? also: try google :-P

  • i like the mondern versions more

  • Samwise looks SO much better in this (animated) one!

  • @cleanhomer haha , you're kidding , right ? :)

  • @TheNbaLover22 I mean, compared to the Bakshi Lord of the Rings.

  • @cleanhomer The Bakshi version of Sam was very cute ,Sam was my fave character in the Bakshi film. :)

  • OMG Gollum looks like a giant mutant frog :D hahaha

  • they are 6 books separated into twos. Fellowship was 2 books. two towers was 2 books. return of the king was 2 books. each book was published separately.

  • @dementedavenger2784 correction fellowship, towers, and return, were published separately

  • Elrond looks like a saint XD

  • Dang thank God for the live action ones!

  • why did people not like the movie when it came out? Sure it was not as good as the bakshi film but its still a good movie.

  • @JazzFalco no this was so much better than bakshi's filme they were ok however rankin bass's version is soooooooooo awesome

  • @BlackSpittingCobra How is a confusing musical that has almost no continuity with bad acting a dull animation compete with Bakshi's hilarious but well animated/live action done film?

How does this pitifully bad Bilbo and not-speaking Aragorn possibly compete with John Hurt and Bakshi's Bilbo? Say Sam is better all you want,it comes at everybody's elses cost. I mean Legolas,Gimli, and Saruman are generally important.

Oh no anything's better than this,ANYTHING

  • Who thought it be a good idea to turn one of the greatest fantasy stories into a musical? Wait this was release in 1980 so probably made in the 70s, okay that makes sense, everyone was high then.

  • 2:06 Does Merry call Pippin "Nathan"?!

  • @jagajazzin No, he said "Nay, Pippin."

  • Peter Jackson totally ripped this off.

  • Frodo what happened to your finger?

Um... That bastard that you let live bit it off!

Let it go Frodo, remember you were going to keep the ring for yourself.

    SHUT UP SAM!

  • 'Frodo of the Nine Fingers and the Ring of Doom!' just great minstrel did Justin Bieber wrote those lines for you?

  • anyone know where i can watch the Peter jacksons movies online?

  • @swinabc i think youd need to download it ,but have you seen the fan made film called the hunt for gollum?thats on you tube and is not to bad ..you can view all the extended scenes from the 3 movies in sequence on you tube aswell
