  • awesome show an awesome time =]

  • I don't remember the "Captain Kangaroo and Friends" title. I remember a version that spliced in the ending title segment from the 1970's "Good Morning Captain" run (the cartoon Captain rolls in the o's in "Kangaroo" for the title).

  • @jaklumen The title card says "Captain Kangaroo and His Friends" here because this was the opening of the video release with that title. This particular montage was NOT used on CBS or PBS, but the PBS version had the same theme song. This opening montage was created for the dozen or so video releases Bob Keeshan released in the mid-80's.

  • @ColdColdToronto Yep, makes sense.

  • This theme was actually written by Lynn Ahrens of "Schoolhouse Rock" fame.

  • This is the song I remember from Captain Kangaroo!

  • R.I.P Bob Keeshan.

  • Oh My God, I'm Having A Nostalgia Overload.

  • Oh My God, I Remember Watching Hearing This Intro, and It Was Unbelievable.

  • They reused the footage often from when they came to the Great America Circus to shoot a week of shows in 1977. I was in those shows and would love to see any of the footage. Any ideas? Please contact me.

  • Mr Green jeans was known as MR. CREAM-JEANS in his former porno-star career!!!

  • LOL !! @ lindawatcher

  • @capt1570 LOOK OUT! It's the one -eyed- pocket monster.!!!

  • @capt1570 OH YES! That's it... you have it! You get two pieces of candy!!!! Gotta smoke>?

  • The show had to be taken off of the air in the 80's after it was discovered that he always cut the end of the pockets out of his pants... and had kids reach inside looking for candy.... they got two pieces if they found the pocket monster....

  • @Lindawatcher you're an idiot

  • @Lindawatcher you're an idiot why would you say something like that, because he's dead and you can't be sued

  • The closing song ws great too!

  • I'm glad that "Captain Kangaroo & Mr.Green Jeans"(Messers:Keeshan and Branum)are not in that tank with the dolphins. Those water mamals can be mean at times.

  • MondoBeno...I had this to watch when i was a kid. i was born in the 90's. my mom had these recorded for me...love this cartoon. Probably my favorite right by Scooby Doo.

  • i used to watch this as a kid.

  • .....seriously, I grew up with Captain Kangaroo and then "Gary Knu" I think Fox put that crappy Space Coasters Show out there, at the time...when I would wake up...my Parents had purchased a black & white TV for my confirmation at the time...every morning, I awoke at age 8, 9, 10??? HAPPY GO LUCKY once I watched Captain Kangaroo.....Bob Keeshan.....what an AMAZING TALENT and SOUL!!!!

  • @csc68 Actually, Hasbro owned the Great Space Coaster Supershow and released it thru thier Clastar distribution for syndication. Not Fox. MGM released at least 1 tape of the show on VHS and Beta around 1985

  • Kids born in 1978 had this to watch. Kids born in 1990 had Barney.

Maybe that's why today's 20-year-olds have so many issues.

  • I remember every time the show ended He would inspire kids to go outside and play and do all kinds of fun things! not like nowadays were our kids rather play xbox and be cave trolls so sad I miss the captain

  • @MEGAMAND1 They even had a special song that they would play on every episode to encourage kids to get out and do stuff!

  • please release these on dvd!!!

  • why don't they ever have reruns of this show, kid's TV sucks SOOOOOOOOOOO BAD today

  • PLEASE release these on DVD.

  • R.I.P. Bob Keeshan. ^^

You are, you have been, and you always will be THE Captain Kangaroo. ^^

  • I grew up with this theme, too- both on video AND on PBS.

  • THIS i the intro i grew up with. i believe they played it when it moved over to PBS right?

im wondering if anyone can help me with a segment ive been trying remember for a very very long time.

i am now fairly certain it was on Captain Kangaroo, because of the claymation that can be seen at the very beginning of this clip.

in this segment there are a bunch of happy lil clay blobs running around, having fun, each of them a different color. red, blue, yellow, orange, purple, maybe others. (1/2)

  • and then it gets weird/creepy,

the group of happy lil blobs are then surrounded by a mass of brown clay, slowly closing around them.

and thats where my memory gets really fuzzy. all i remember is they have to work together to get out. oh, and i believe the red blob came forward to be their brave leader.

thats all i can remember. PLEASE tell me my brain isnt makin this up!

  • @pokinsmot

The name of the segment was called "Red & Blue".

  • @14DaveHunter

    thank yoooooouuuuuuuu!

at least now i know i didnt imagine it! you Sir have my deepest gratitude. now if only someone would post it

  • @pokinsmot I think I remember what you're referring to, but I'm not sure where to find it, exactly. There is a small possibility it might have been featured on Sesame Street as well-- many of the creative minds that worked on Captain Kangaroo worked there, too.

  • @jaklumen

thank you! at least someone else remembers it... even if vaguley

  • Wow! I haven't heard this in 25 years and remembered almost all the lyrics!

  • This is the version that I grew up with. I love it. I just wish some of the early 80's kids shows would be on rerun.

  • Ah yes..now this is the intro I remember as a kid..brings back memories for sure.

  • That was an awesome show!

  • GREAT SONG!!! So catchy, so upbeat, really brings back lots of fond memories with Mr. Moose, Bunny Rabbit, Dennis, and Cathy ;)

I just hope this makes it to DVD some day,

with all the constant unpredictible crap on tv nowadays, where's quality tv when you want to see it (or the FCC to act up and do something about it for that matter)?

  • yeah!!! Finally a full version of the song!! Thank you for posting!

  • "And His Friends"! That was the one we were never able to find growing up.

  • my baby sister has one, about nursery rhymes I think, which I saw a million times thanks to her :)
