I get around. I listen to blues, metal, alternative, rock, symphonic metal. I just cant understand why todays FAMOUS pop artists get all the fame. I've listened to pop before, i've liked it. The pop artists i cant stand are Lady Gaga and the such. I listen to Indica and the such, or S.U.N. Im a much bigger fan of european pop and techno. I dont hate pop, i just hate the ones that are more famous in the U.S.
@Chickenjuggle You are compleatly correct in that anyone can learn to sing. But what you left out is being able to change the style of your singing to each song. Listen to her first song, then this one, then her tenth symphony, then tell me if you have ever heard any artist have that much of a change in their voice. Playing an instrument dosent take a genius, but most pop artists who are well known display a remarkable ability of never being able to pick up an instrument and play it.
@Xiones11 I checked out some other songs of hers, and her voice isn't really that different. Also, if you can learn to sing, you can learn to be diverse with your voice.
"Pop artists" like John Mayer or Lady Gaga have displayed remarkable instrumental abilities.
I don't really know why you have such a vendetta against "pop artists," but your gratuitous hatred for them makes you seem like a total asshole.
@Chickenjuggle I'll save the typical youtube commenter rebuttal such as "let's see you do better", or something like that, and go straight to: "You're an idiot.".
@FatalShockKustom I'm not an idiot for stating a different opinion. You're an idiot for close-mindedly saying that I'm an idiot because I don't agree with you.
@Chickenjuggle Well, I suppose you're right. However, some of the greatest musical works of all time were also some of the simplest. You saying "Big Whoop" just seems to belittle this obviously talented girls original work. What would make it better, in your opinion?
@Chickenjuggle Saying this is shitty isn't an opinion. Saying you don't like it is an opinion. She is very talented, and if you can't see that, then you live a rough life, my friend.
@Chickenjuggle everywhere where modern artists fall flat. In creativity, in the ability to play an instrument, in intellegence seen in the way she dresses, in the time of the song, in the rare use of words to describe the mood of the music, in the ability to remain in one position through the entire song, in the ability to actually sing, in the ability to change her voice to match each of her songs. If you listen to all of her songs, her voice is never the same in any of them.THAT is where
If you want to be more pretentious with your taste, go ahead. However, just to let you know, it doesn't take a genius to play an instrument (nor does it to use a looping device), intelligence isn't accurately displayed by dress, and remaining in one position for a whole sone actually will often [unwillingly] convey discomfort while on stage. Also, anyone without emphysema can sing.
It saddens and angers me to see that only ~31,000 views/people have seen this. It is music like this that everyone should know about, that should be out on the radio...
They're aren't many rock'n'roll wizards like you left, deenichols. All the others technicians with calculator foreheads and hearts that beat high-hats went into hiding when the phase vocoder allowed Paris Hilton to make the charts. In true rock style they muttered, "Fuck that Noise,' and went off to look for the largest stone they could crawl under 'til it was safe for good music again. Thanks for sticking around. Her voice is sinisterly sexy, like forgetting that tiger in your closet.
ah Emily, where would you be without your faithful looping board? Seriously though, that's some pretty amazing stuff. I guess looping is totally mainstream now and not as "loopy" as it once was. I still think it's more impressive to have friends do all the other parts, but this is still damn good.
I'm inspired to get a photoplayer and hit the stages and the studios!
I found Emily in the music section of LA Weekly and I'm so glad I did. I like to check out singer songwriters and always crave for them have something unique, this time was no exception. Great music by an artist doing it her own way. Hope to get the live and in person fix sometime soon.
Oh my! I just saw Emily Wells a few days ago in SLC on the Hotel Cafe tour... she was so beyond words! SO AMAZING... I sat there movin'... wondering who this petite phenomenon was... WOW. Spread the word!
I don't know how music like this isn't more popular. it's just an amazing synthesis of styles wrapped into an assemblage of rhythm and feeling. everybody needs to discover Emily Wells.
the best music is the music that isnt so mainstream.
