Asperger Syndrome is a neurobiological disorder on the higher-functioning end of the autism spectrum. An individual's symptoms can range from mild to severe.
Their IQ's are typically in the normal to very superior range. They are usually educated in the mainstream, but most require special education services.
Because of their naivete, those with AS are often viewed by their peers as "odd" and are frequently a target for bullying and teasing.
I am seriously starting to wonder about the correlation of female Aspergians and gender disassociation. So far 1 out of 6 female Aspies on Youtube (myself included) are somehow gender disassociated. I choose the term gender disassociation because sexual preference is not obvious unless the person in the video states otherwise. Two were fairly masculine in their appearance (one was definitely gay), plus you, plus the fem blogger who stated being bisexual, and I consider myself to be, also.
I have met several people with Aspergers on SL that are transgendered and/or bisexual that are geneticly male. It's probably more common OTOH, i have met many straight Aspies also.
@Magnulus76 I really appreciate your input, thank you. :) I only recently discovered blogs of people who have Aspergers, and find myself realizing that we (me and Aspies) have a lot in common. So it made me wonder... What else do the text books and "experts" NOT know. My mom wondered if I was Autistic when I didn't talk 'til I was three. As soon as I talked I was "normal". Not that I want ANY label. I think everyone is unique. But listening to y'all brings my world into better focus.
@Aleksei5055 I don't exactly consider myself bisexual. I just call myself to that for ease of communication. I can fall in love with, or be infatuated with, as the case may be, anyone, regardless of gender. So, I guess I consider myself preferentially blind. Anywho, I realized I made a typo in that post. Only 1 of 6 female Aspies I'd seen at the time were not bi or gay. That statistic has changed. But, I think it's more that Aspies aren't as prone to hide their preference, on hind sight.
Hey Amanda, you should really check out this site called "Autism Hangout", let them have some of your views. I think they are really really important. I'm a psych student, and HFautistic, and I think we need to self-advocate because NTs just can't understand us. And I think you are dead-on, absolutely right! "Disability" needs to be re-defined; and Aspergers (now 'mild autism') has yet to be accurately defined. DSM is not great...version 3 said gay was an illness 4eg! (I'm bi; so offended 2!) HP

@jwarrior343 you tried to contrast being bi with being gay, as if one were more voluntary than the other. Being bi is exactly like being gay except there is some degree of attraction to all genders. Please look up "biphobia" as to why this bothers me so much. That bisexuals have more choice is too close to the stereotype from straights that bi's are hypersexual sluts and of gays that bi's are closeted homosexuals that choose to hide as straights. \
well it's not really my place to say, since I'm a girl and it doesn't apply to me. the words dyke and lesbo usually offend me. I have one (straight, male) friend who calls me a dyke in a way that I don't find offensive. I guess because we're very close and I feel like he understands the context of the word & is using it as an inside joke between us. it offends me if some straight person thinks they can just up and use it.
I assume if I was a guy I'd feel the same about the word fag.

Interesting. What do SL and OTOH stand for?

@jonandra I kind of agree with you... I have AS and I am girl and I am the same way kind of ... I am bi.

too all homo phobes: homo sexuality is not a choice cuz if it was we would technically be bi, and that is clearly not the case
jwarrior343 2 years ago
yeah I know, boys are awesome, I'd totally be into them if I could.
gorramdoll 2 years ago
@jwarrior343 being "bi" is not a choice either. People don't choose who they fall in love with, and to me that's really what being bi is about.
Magnulus76 1 year ago
@Magnulus76 hmmmm true, but what i meant was you can choose between 2 sexes instead of just the one, i know what you mean though
