To say that England were a great team in Italia 90 would be a lie! They deserved to beat Germany in the semi-final, but they did not play well throughout the tournament. They had 2 scrappy draws against Ireland & Holland, a narrow 1-0 win over Egypt, a last minute extra time goal against Belgium in an even match, and a very lucky escape against Cameroon. So don't tell me England were a great team in italia 90.

This was England's best squad in the last 20 years . . . . this was our best shot to win it all - we played so well throughout the knockout phase (although I admit we were lucky to get by Cameroon, who played really well - surprised us a bit I think). I think it will be a while before we make another semi-finals? But here's hoping for 2010 . . .

the greatest world cup I have ever experience in my life. I was born in 1981 and was 8 when it was on. I remember it so clearly though! Platts volley against Belgium! class and the tears when we went out on pens. I didnt stop all night! theres not been a world cup like it since in my opinion

Scillachi broke Irish hearts in that world cup. I remember balling my eyes out when I was 7 during it. Jack Charlton hadn't a club about tactics, just high balls up to the front men and closing down the opposition. Such a shame letting the likes of Sheedy and Stapleton's talents go to waste not using a passing game.
