It is crap. Compare it to Goodfellas or Donnie Brasco or All The Presidents Men or any truly good movie. It is schlock. Nobody has made a good movie in ten years. Eastern Promises was boring and predictable. A History of Violence was pedestrian..................Wa­tch Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf. {Amazing dialogue.} The Godfather 1 or 2. Midnite Cowboy. {Traffic was an excellent movie.} Patton. Bonnie and Clyde. This stuff you're talking about is utterly mediocre. It simply is.

Considering that this movie was about the Russian Mafia, of course the maker of this movie was trying their best not to make it as discreet as could be. Since the Russian Mafia are still active and the #1 criminal organization in the world. Who would want to have a price tag on their forehead?

Those movies you mentioned are good, but they're all the same. About the Italian/Sicilian mafia and all. I mean, sure they're notorious, but it's the modern day. Most of them are raided already.

I keep looking for Eastern Promises amongst the top 100 rated films of all time. I see The Godfather. I see ET. I see Midnite Cowboy. I see All The Presidents Men. I see High Noon with Gary Cooper. I see Platoon...............can't seem to find Eastern Promises. Don't think I'll find it ten years from now either.

Mediocre dialogue and content {like 99% of todays movies.} Acting was strong. Good movies? Godfather 1 and 2. Midnight Cowboy. All the Presidents Men. Platoon. Hud. The Graduate. Drugstore Cowboy. Dog Day Afternoon. Casino. Goodfella's. Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf? Hombre. Kramer vs Kramer. Last Tango in Paris.............I'm sorry but if you think this is a "great" movie I feel sorry for you. It is kinda weak. I saw all five of the Oscar nominated movies this particular year. Pitiful.

I like Viggo Mortenson and though this movie was extremely mediocre it wasn't as bad as the one he was in with William Hurt........where Hurt played his brother who was the "mob figure" in Philadelphia. {That was laughable.} The dialogue in the above movie was weak. {Eastern Promises} The storyline was very predictable. They were trying to show that Viggo was in a "dirty business" but was a "conflicted " individual who on the one hand blah, blah, blah and they didn't do it very well.
