Great Young voice! At your age don't worry about the comparisons to great tenors only to sing with your voice and to make your voice beautiful. I can really tell that you have so much extra "noise" in your head while you are singing. You have to silence those voices and allow the voice to do what it already knows how to do. You know technique you have to now make a leap of faith and trust that in that silence your voice will do exactly what you want it to. It has to be as natural as laughter!
Felicitari draga George!
The tone needs to be brghter and more open on this one. I suggest place the voice higher and less in the throat to make the resonance more free. Perhaps more of a smile and not such an open mouth. I enjoyed it - the voice is such a good instrument.
My dear, you have a beautiful timbro, but not to imitate the Italian opera singers: an optimal teacher of Italian dizione looks for and studies so much!
Well, after reading a few of your comments my good friend George,....i've come to realize you need more work, more polishin' that BEAUTIFUL Voice of yours,...well, me i'm no critic, but i must tell ya, LUVIN' this performance of yours as much as the past ones,...thumbs up to ya good buddy and thankin' artalirica for the AWESOME share! = )
Something is lacking, George, but I can't put my finger on it sinceI amnot a teacher.. I think you have the potential of a nice voice but not for the operatic stage...keep working, though...
@MrSammyscroll haha... he has the potential for sure to sing operaa...problem numero uno is the rep! too too big for his age problem 2. Technique but it is improving.... his high voice needs help just like any other young tenor
you don't really have the timbre for this rep. my suggestion would be to sing bel canto rep for a few years and coach it with real bel canto scholars...and it wouldn't hurt to only hang around italians for a while. i think it would help your diction, phrasing, and eventually will help when you're ready for the bigger rep. just because you can sing heavier rep like Calaf and Pinkerton doesn't mean the voice suits it at this time. have patience and keep learning. it's a great instrument.
well you sent me this video and so i will give you my opinion.
first the good. very good musicianship and instrument. you MUST continue with your studies. polish polish polish.
ok now the problems...but only because i care about this voice for some reason.
dude, what's with the shadow vowels? yes Pavarotti and Bergonzi had them...but you're not them. it breaks the flow of the phrase i.e. stops your voice. (continued).
OK. Thank you for having the courage to share. It's not easy to open yourself up to total strangers' criticism. I suppose I will refrain from giving you my suggestions unless you specifically ask for them. Best to you.
Too bad I live thousands of miles from you, George....I'd like to borrow your fine accompanist. (: As for you, the makings of a first-class tenor. Several others have suggested you back off for now, take the slow & easy approach; I agree, because once you get past those little intonation, pitch, and pronunciation problems, the ring in your tops (Italians' so-called squillo) will put YOU near the top!
George, you´ve got a nice voice but, I´d like to make some small observations:
1. Get to the vowels sooner specially in your comfortable range, ie. Addio its not Auddio. You´re gesticulating a bit too much and that´s bothersome for those who speak the language or know the piece.
2. Don´t lead the music with your body or arm, it´s very distracting.
3. Get into the meaning and without over acting, at least strive to convey feelings: Ah son vil= Ah I'm evil.
Very nice! ... but your tone tends to SPREAD, a bit, in certain passages; maybe it could be controlled, better. ... For comparisons, we can even go back to Caruso, et. al.
Thanks for the video, I would have no problem listening to you, you obviously are still learning & I believe you should keep at it & who knows where it will take you. Good luck in the future.
Makes me feel better about my school recitals on violin. I also played out of tune and was technically challenged. Of course, I only played 2 recitals ever. I would suggest a heavy dose of Schipa, Gigli, Caruso, etc., like I listened to Kreisler, Thibaud, etc.
Sure, he had pitch problems, in this setting of piano and small room that often happens. I believe he has that aria in him, but he got nervous and tightened. He should next time rest his right hand on the piano to relax him, to remind him that it is his friend and is on his side. I know it's simplistic but I believe it works. This is a golden voice, I hear it. An Artist is not born overnight, he is young and will work at it exactly like Luciano did.
Most importantly: breathe. Deeply and fast. Then you have the certainty and stability that you will make the phrase and "top" notes. Relax and think of carrying over the vocal line or phrase on your cushion of breath. Trust these simple facts: deep breaths which support the tone.
I assume you want my feedback since you sent me an email about this video. I studied with Horne's teacher for 15 years, that may or may not persuade you that I have some knowledge and insight. Messr Dragomir's virbrato is too slow; that means his breathing is off. He sings flat sometimes. His lower register is weak. He is insecure in the bottleneck (passaggio). If he found a good teacher, he could become an excellent tenor. He has a good ring on the high notes.
Romania has produced more than its share of great opera singers - possibly because the language is so similar to Italian. This guy indeed has a lot of potential but his high note at the end was not good. Puccini wrote phrases such that the singer leads the listener's ear to a climax. If that climatic note isn't good the whole peice is ruined.
Maybe he should pull back a little in the beginning so as to have more at the end.

Good vocal material!!!, but needs to understand he is a big lyric tenor, not a dramatic one now!!!...He has to manage less effort in his singing, and keep the voice floating upe behind the soft palate, but still connected to "in between teeth". I feel that his air support can be much more easier, if he takes out the idea from his head that he has to "poundage every phrase he sings". He has a natural beautiful and brigth sound, no need to do that. Any how, well done.
Bravo friend, solid performance. I would like to see a little less rigid posture, and dont twist your mouth, dont do it. A little bit flat at the end. Beautiful ring and nice delivery. Again, bravo keep it up.
Please stop sending this strained, out-the-side-of-the-mouth, no stagecraft, often flat dross to me. The only good thing about it is that if he keeps on "singing" like this he'll very quickly ruin his voice. If GVD ever appears in an opera I'll eat my hat!
IMHO Very good voice, well set. You've to improve the final part that is not succiciently precise. High notes are "crescent" (?? I don't know in english) . And also interpretation can be developed with a larger use of dynamics,
Good performance. You have to improve something but you sing this aria better than me, I think...I haven't your quality voice because I am a lyric tenor ringing, no dramatic. GO ON !!!!!!
It is an interesting performance. Though I think he is naturally more disposed to the music of classicism. I think it would be pleasurable to hear him singing some Mozart or Haydn.
Very good. Bravo. You are probably a spinto. My recommemdation is for you to find lyric side of your voice more. These big arias will damage it completely in your stage if you continue to sing too much. Sing big arias as if you were singing light arias, bit less volume but more intensity. You know your instrument better than anyone. More articulation and less Corell for now. Thanks. Look forward for more. steak.

George, you are beginning to own your talent..the apple tree is covered in blossoms
and the fruit is beginning to ripen. Your voice can be full, rich and exciting to hear
especially in such romantic and lyrical music as Puccini has written in Pinkerton's
famous aria. Keep your mind on what you are doing...focus on your desire to
express the glories of music through you voice and communicate that glory to
an audience. Never forget that the true star of the show is the composer you
serve!

Thanks. Look forward for more. steak.
