  • So ... It's been over two years, since you posted this ... Are you still into bushcraft? ... And, even if you have moved on, to other interests ... what have you learned, in the last two years ? ... If you still camp, etc., what does your kit look like, today? How have you, your kit, your methods and priorities evolved ?

  • @phrankus2009 I'm still very much into bushcraft. I have a more recent video of my kit on my channel.

  • Thanks for the video. It's no big deal to be prepared. What's big and conspicuous is my bob. Gotta lose some weight man!

  • Man,you really took a beating with some of these comments. You know why? Because you made a great vid and they can't. I enjoyed it and will check out some more of your work.

  • kid is good, but if you want to learn from GURU of bushcraft watch RAY MEARS bushcraft

  • Your paying too too too much for your paracord go to camping survival.com 100' 4 4.00$

  • No offense man but you actually walk louder than you talk...lol

  • good advice

  • All I'd say is consider getting a quality knife such as the Cold Steel Recon Scout as a quality high carbon steel knife won't need as much sharpening an is more durable and will allow some use as a hatchet. Other than that everything is great.

  • Good job. Ginger looks like you feed her very well.

  • @handyscot1 well you know what they say, the camera adds 10 pounds =P shes lost weight since this vid

  • well done.

  • you are an inspiration to kids like me thanks for the vid bro

  • Replace the soup can with a coffee can and buy ramen noodles at the 99 cent store

  • Good video,

I believe all soup cans have some sort of plastic lining, so it's probably not safe to cook with.

I'll go with matches and some tinder (fat wood, cotton ball + vasaline). Had bad experience with coleman magnesium block though.

Definitely recommend the mora knife, can't go wrong with that. for a larger knife, I recommend the Glock Knife 30$.

    Overall Bossy video.

  • @KellyKaiLin coffee cans are clean

  • Well done. But I would spend the last 3 bucks on a small medical kit, just alcohol wipes and medical tape is all you need for any cuts you might get.

  • Thank you for tacking the time to make this video

  • You guys shouldn't make fun of this, I doubt you haters have even gone out in the bush before! Great video man. Have a great christmas.

  • @unraveledtree maybe, I looked at your bushcraft videos, and they are much better than mine. they would definitely keep people alive in any situation, anywhere on the earth. my apologies sir. you are clearly the expert here.

  • @wildernesswikiup14 Because thats what matters; who has the better videos right?

  • @unraveledtree I have had the pleasure to spend some BC time with wildernesswikiup14 and we both lived to talk about it. he is well skilled in his BC tools and knowledge of the outdoors. IMHO he would be quite an asset in any emergency situation out in the wild. can't wait until our next BC meet up. Kal will always be welcome at my campfire.

  • @unraveledtree you're a dumbass eh

  • @unraveledtree This video shows people the BASICS of bushcraft equipment. It has little to do with material but rather what your SKILLS allow you to do with what you have.

  • @unraveledtree I think he is a little young. I dont know what knowledge he posesses but I would bet that his videos will get even better as he ages. But I do think that their is some nieve people out there that dont do the research. I would encourage anyone seeking advice on you tube to not stop at the first video you see and take a strangers word for it. And if your making a video it wouldnt hurt to mention that to people at the end of your vid . Overall though good advice Wiki.

  • @unraveledtree you are right telling people who are inexperienced in the woods it's ok to go out with next to nothing is retarded.

  • @unraveledtree thats really a douche thing to say. im young im only 17 and im proud of my self that im so into bushcraft and survival and i know so much already. im not saying i know it all but i know more than some for my age and so does this kid. im glad other young people are persuing bush craft. you should be encouraging him. if there was something you didnt like or he did wrong just politely give him advice. i think this video was great.

  • 

    Great ideas thnx.

  • Just saying the canteens are not indestructable, you can squeeze it with your hands

  • This is a damn good video....

  • This is a damn good video....

  • I bought a stainless steel dog dish for $5 and I cook raman with jerky and oatmeal in it.(both very light to carry and provide energy as well) I spray painted the bottom with some high temp paint and that bowl works perfectly well.. every time. Plus you can boil water in it too.

  • @markshmily I had been thinking same thing. Every time I feed the dogs. Great minds think alike. LOL

  • you say bucks alot

  • @ chaos1964

Rule of 3's. three minutes with out air. three hours in the elements. three days with out water and. three weeks with out good

So three weeks with out food is not a month

    Short by a week there

  • some say he underpriced everything but he really didnt he actually overpriced some things btw if u google harborfreight and go to their website they sell mag blocks for like 2 dollars and some change

  • what breed is ginger a flat coated retriever?

  • @darkarchon777 she is a Black Labrador Retriever, pure bred.

  • @wildernesswikiup14 dont feel bad aahhaha my lab is just as fat.. but we put him on thiroid meds and he lost 15lbs .. now hes thinner but still needs to lose more ahahha

  • @megalizardfreak yeah shes not that fat, only a few pounds of the hefty side but its mostly because she's getting old. Shes 11 now and We've cut back her food and she's getting thinner. But yeah you really need to keep an eye on dog's weight, not good for them to have a lot of extra pounds on them

  • @wildernesswikiup14 yeah.. my dogs doing better to.. hes lost 15 so hes only about 105 instead of his ideal weight of 100. i love labs dont you ?

  • @megalizardfreak Ginger there is only 70-75 (ideally 70 lol) and I love my lab =) they are great dogs =)

  • @wildernesswikiup14 yeah,, the best

  • Good looking hat, looks warm :)

  • @E29Able oh yeah! lol

  • magnesium blocks are like 10$ flint and steel are 3$

  • magnesium blocks are like 10$

  • Great video, anything that encourages people to get out ;)

  • BTW, it occurred to me that your dog was probably wondering who on earth you were talking to. LOL

  • Finally, someone who remembers knives need sharpening! I see lots of "here's my survival/bushcraft kit strapped to my sheath" that doesn't include so much as stone or even a piece of leather for keeping the knife sharp. I'd actually probably prefer a fine diamond sharpener if that was all I could carry, though.

  • hey man whats the music its really cool

  • natral fibers work just as well such as nettles/willlow and leave less of an inpact. cool vid but.

the best equipment is knolage of the area you are staying in. making the only peace of equpment a knife and a tarp for cumfort

is there water? you can last 3 days with out and 10% dehydration 20% mental loss

food what is there to scavenge? you can last about 1 month without food

  • Canteen and can-$7

    100ft of paracord-$4

    Magnisium bar with flint-$7

    Mora sl2 knife-$16

    Brown 10x10 tarp-$8

    gi sharpener-2

    total-$44

  • @superreptilelover you can get paracord at some army navy stores or military surplus stores. Make sure you get real paracord

With the seven strands inside. Fire starters you can get at any place that sells camping equipment. His prices were under priced though. Except the paracord, you can get 100 feet for like 3 or 4 bucks.

  • where do u get the para cord and the flint around your neck

  • dude i understand how your trying to have a good vid and it is, but bud ,those prices are WAY off. totally under priced.

  • Really nice approach, its refreshing to see some one who is'nt just advertising being a huge consumer of unnecessary crap, im really into knives/flashlights but i dont need them, well yer but i dont need the expensive ones, i get them coz i like them not coz i need them like so many so called experts tell you, but out of all things id say knife choice is pretty important but mora's are very good and very cheap,

really sound advice, i hope people listen to you over people like nutnselleverything

  • wack wack wack

  • i have see this video before, and it still damn good,

  • @hobbexp thanks a bunch Fredde =)

  • Hm, really liked the intro music.. sounded familiar somehow...

  • where did u find the magnesium block for $2??? at walmart their about $7

  • i'd take a firesteel for 5$ and fuck that POS mg firestarter

  • Hi. Get two knives. A pocket knife. (Swiss army if possible) and a Mora would be great. A bandana, and a cheap compass. Not much more and worth the extra cost. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

  • All in all an excellent job!

  • I have some concern about your recommendations for a saw. Instead of a hacksaw blade, you might want to opt for a cheap, wood cutting, saber saw blade. They are about the same price as a hacksaw blade. You can grip the saber saw blade with a pair of small Visegrips. They will lock the blade in very tightly.

Knockoff Visegrips cost around three bucks and are handy as all around pliers.

  • cateens are like 8$ and those magnesium blocks are like 7$

  • @MrXJaRvIsX magnisuim is like $10

  • well at my walmart there 7$

  • @MrXJaRvIsX Harbor Freight Tools $2.99

  • i use to make these in like fifth grade :) i didnt know anyone else made them

  • u under priced stuff

  • You under priced EVERYTHING.

  • @magicster123 i actually rounded a buncha stuff up

  • you forgot a small axe or hatchet

  • not necisary

  • you dont NEED an axe to start in bushcraft

  • @wildernesswikiup14 where did u find the magnesium block for $2??? at walmart their about $7

  • @magicster123 that depends on where you live

  • @MrEhud77 Where do you live to find all of these items for his price.

  • @magicster123 Colorado...Army surplus stores, Dollar stores, Garage sales etc etc

  • @MrEhud77 oic you're from canada no wonder...your sales tax is kicking your butt.

  • @MrEhud77 It's only like 13%...

  • @magicster123 That's twice what I pay.

  • @MrEhud77 But there is a small difference in currency.

  • @magicster123 I thought of that right after I opened my mouth about the taxes, take the tax rate combined with the difference in currency and I think that's the reason the prices would be higher for ya. for instance... I have a book here that's 18.95 US but 25.95 canadian before taxes.

  • @MrEhud77 Very true, but some items, like the ones in the video, are the same price in Canada and the US.

  • @magicster123 The biggest expense going to be the knives and the tarp, I think I'll put together a Zero Dollar Bushcraft kit if I get my camera working again. That being said, jm819335 priced just about everything and came in at 44 bucks, but alot of times the 50 dollar price is thrown out there just to tell you it's cheap. I think wilderness outfitters was able to stay under or around 50 in their video as well

  • @MrEhud77 I agree that a kit around $50 is great and some of the gear in the video can be replaced with even more inexpensive off brand gear ex. instead of paracord polyester braided cord. I'll be looking forward to your zero budget and how you will tackle that challenge.

  • @magicster123 I'll be doing some dumpster diving, that's for sure!

  • @MrEhud77 Good Luck!

  • @magicster123 Thanks...My mind is already running, But my camera bit the dust lol

  • Hello Kal! Nice review on that basic gear for bushcraft! I´d like to see the inside of your teepee if you dont mind! And how about a compass? That´s all I´d add to your kit!! Take care bro and keep more vids coming! 5*****!

  • Hi. For the quality of your presentation: Show the items you talking about in a close up. Or add photos of it in your videos. There are people who dont know the items already.

    Greetings from germany

    Andre

  • ok thanks for the input, i'll remember that!

  • you can upgrade the saw with a gerber slidesaw for around 10 bucks its an amaising little saw and has a lifetime warenty Kal i could see you as a bushcraft survival teacher

  • nice vid Kal!, I am in agreement w/ ya on this. keep it simple

  • I'd probably just suck up the extra 5 or 6 bucks and get a canteen cup to go on your canteen. Miles ahead of a soup can...

And for knives...be on the lookout for old style kitchen knives (like Old Hickory brand) often found at thrift stores for a couple dollars to mess around with.

  • true. this vid is just one of many possibilites you could do for a start up kit.

also i' get the canteen cup too =P

  • Some really good advice Kal. 5*

  • Hey man I'm always looking to expand my music collection, could you please tell me the artist you used in your introduction?

  • this one is called faun by andro

  • I like you structure.. can you do a little vid covering some of the details.

  • sure, like what?

  • Just the internal stucture, how you tied off your tarp and how you closed the hole on top. I'm looking for ideas to set up a shelter before the snow starts. Thanks for posting.

  • ok. i'll get one up soon. you can also ask hobbexp (fredde) about this lawu, he helped me with the idea and he got me a lot of info about swedish lawus

  • well, a hacksaw blade would be really slow going you might want a bowsaw blade there about the same price good vid great recomendations

  • yea thats what i ment to say, i was hoping people would figure it out, lol ill put in some annotations

  • Great video thats a good starting kit , some of the items (soup can ) I carry with me all the time when I am in the woods I have gotten more expensive items but still use some of the less expensive items in my kit . I also think that the Mora is always a good option , I think hobbexp uses one and he is really good bushcrafter . If he uses a Mora then the knife is very good for any price range . 5/5

  • good advice, and a very nice tipee :0)

  • thanks =P

  • Great vid keep it up. By the way I love your dog!

  • lol thanks, she loves going out in the bush with me

  • Awesome video Dude. loved it.
