Put yourself in her expensive designer stilettos for a moment. If u were rushed & people were all around, how would u have responded? Wouldn't u have been overwhelmed, especially if u were sleep deprived or your blood sugar was low? Also, did it occur to u that there's a reason she wanted u to keep that lovely portrait for yourself? :)

I met her dozens of times... mostly she is JUST WONDERFUL but I've seen and heard her well lets say not what we expect, YET... keep in mind people don't leave her alone. I had many opportunities to witness this first hand... ( see the episode of THE NANNY where Sylvia wants autographs from "Glenn Close" in the stall in the ladies room... they never leave JOAN alone... regardless she could take the gift more graciously and give it to someone who would CHERISH IT forever as it wonderful(more)

She didn't seem rude, she just didn't seem interested in it. But she could have been kinder and take it even if she didn't like it. She could be oblivious to hurting people's feelings. She may have stopped to think the effort that was put in doing it.

The polite thing to do was accept it graciously, even if she would not hang it or was going to throw it away.

Joan is not a mainstream star any more though she acts like it.

I'm in two minds over this: On the one hand, I don't think she was that terrible, she was obviously tired, and on her way elsewhere, and the painting wasn't that great (it was OK, but nothing special, sorry). She still posed for the photo, smiled for the cameras and accepted the flowers, so what more can you expect?

On the other hand, she doesn't exactly have a massive fan base anymore, so she could see the importance of the fans she does have left, especially the gay ones, who seem very loyal.

I don't think she ever said she didn't like it, what she said is that she has a ton of portraits of herself. In fact, another fan of hers had her sign one, which she did happily some months ago...but she didn't take that one either.

What we see in this video is a woman who did a performance of a one woman show, had done a lineup of fans which she's lucky to have and was basically burned out, tired and impatient.
