  • What I don't get is the name Fyrish haas a "Y" in it. The letter "Y" doesn't exist in Gaelic yet this place is in Scotland unless it's in Wales. Could someone please clarify this for me?

  • @teery59

Fyrish is in Scotland , Fyrish lands were once lands which belonged to the Earl of Ross, which were forfeited to the crown in 1475. It is in fact Fyrish hill and not cnoc Fyrish but is usually refered to as cnoc Fyrish. I doubt if the name is gaelic but I will leave that one for the buffs.

  • @teery59 The name FYRISH may have its origins in a Norse word for ‘pine tree’

  • Tha glé mhath, gu dearbh, ar Albanach.

  • IRELAND ALSO!

  • i was born and bred in Alness,at the foothills of FYRISH and made the trip up Fyrish in every season of ther year.

it was an adventure for most of our childhood.

i now live abroad but love to see the "fyrish" foto's ,especially in the winter,

sitting here now with a tear in my eye listening to this beautiful piece of music.

  • worked and lived in the highlands and if you ever get the opportunity do it ,get off the beaten path check out the small vilages and towns the little pubs with the old guys playing folk music it is magical ,excellent experience ,the characters you meet and the scenery is breathtaking.

  • @scotty9838 ...and they will rob u blind when u ain't lookin.

  • This lady's voice is really really pretty.

  • @shazam15

Does anybody know, who's singing by the way? i'd love to buy her album.

  • Listn like "Enya" !

    Serche "Enya" on "Youtube..

  • I think if most people knew the significance of this video and the series of photographs they might not have been so keen to try and hijack it with their comments - John, it's been four years since Geoff died and to watch this video still helps us to remember his final resting place - thanks for doing it and for always being a great friend. Sarah and Pete

  • Divine nature / sweet gaelic song

    thanks for posting!

    5/5 !

  • I'm a Scot's American. All of my fathers side is product of Argyle all my mother people were ulster scots. Yavru is right. We didn't chose to be thousands of miles away from the place that is ethnically our homeland nor does that distance dim the pride and adoration we hold for the same. The greatest thing Scotland ever lost was the 30 million diaspora son's and daughters. The Scottish nation is more organic that the land it is a race of people who love their culture whether on the land or not.

  • To visit the highlands is beautiful, I have been and loved it. Its peaceful, and calm. The highlands have something about them that leaves you in an awe

  • NObody chooses where they were born or what culture they are raised in. you are not scottish, you are australian.

  • To visit the Scottish Highlands is the biggest dream I have. I read and dream of the places.

  • YAVRUKANGURU

Your a typical Aussie, hide 15 thousand miles away and make comments that sound like you live here in Britain. If your so against histoical change our ancestors made, then your in the wrong place - ask an aboriginal........

  • Not anything other than human.

  • English, British, Scotish, Irish, Welsh, Celtic, etc. Same origin, all the same, same country, different regions, human.

  • well said , this video was never ment to be a scottish the thing. I am a scot and proud to be. but i am united as in the kingdom...........:) and if u don't like that u don't have to look in ..:(

  • This music comes from heaven.

  • Most of my family were from Allness i miss it so much great video brings back great memories of playing up the fyrish with my brother allways so peacefull once we got to the monument lovely place still takes my breath away .Nice one

  • I am Polish myself, but madly in love with a gorgeous Scotsman. The Highlands are just amazing, i've been to many places around the world before, but Scotland is just so so special. Peace and love for you all, Scottish people

  • In this manner true this on Hungary...

  • i love capercaillie, and it compliments the video well.... i've been to scotland once, anbd want to go back so badly... such a beautiful place, rich in history....

    Go Caledonia !!

  • who is singing it?

  • The band is called capercaillie , the lead singer is a girl called Karen Matheson. Google now do lyrics. type in this song " Breisleach " and you will get both english and gaelic words.

  • who is singing it?

  • what is she singing about? is it in gaelic?

  • Soctland and yes

  • mmmm good question. the usual hinda stuff a lost love and a deep will to join them on the the dark side. If you want the lyrics in english np :)

  • yeah, that'd be very nice. could you also write me the galic text? i regret that i have no gaelic. once i tried to learn bits of this language but it's very hard. there are almost no similarities to german... ;o))

    best wishes

  • id like them too, if you could send them to me please =)

  • what does cnoc fyrish mean?

  • cnoc simply means hill.. Fyrish is the name given to an ancient area of land found just north of Evanton, Ross-shire, Scotland. The lands of Fyrish are now part of the Novar Estate. However the Fyrish lands were once lands which belonged to the Earl of Ross, which were forfeited to the crown in 1475.

The lands of Fyrish were later granted to Sir William Keith by King James VI of Scotland in 1587. Fyrish was then divided into four parts.

  • Enjoyable film, see attach*

  • Beautiful! Scotland certainly a very beautiful country!!!

  • Yes, SCOTLAND MUST BE FREE!

  • forgive my ignorance...I didnt know Scotland wasnt free, anyone care to explain.

  • in 1707, the act of union was passed which meant that scotland and england were united under one monarchy and one government. It was Queen Elizabeth I's successor, Mary Queen of Scots' son King James, became king of both Scotland and England and that is how this came about, but in 1999 we were given a parliament in Holyrood, Edinburgh with an elected first minister (at the moment it is SNP Alex Salmond. Just if you wanted to know.

  • I'm also a bit ingnorant to Scotland's move towards independance so I have to ask. Basically, Scotland wants nothing to do with England or the rest of Great Britain....is this not so?? How and why do Scots feel they'd be better off independant from England?? This sounds interesting...Please explain.

  • You have to take note that not all Scottish people want independence. If it was to go to a vote i think it would be very close. What the SNP want is basically Scotland to be its own independent nation and to break away from the UK. Wether that would be financially or economically beneficial to Scotland has yet to be proved but i dont think it would. P.S If Scotland was to leave the "Union" it would most certainly join the EU

  • The UK is already a part of the EU, so Scotland is a part of a union that is a part of a union. Which is twice as bad.

  • It's not that we don't want anything to do with the other UK nations. On the contrary, we (some of us) just feel that it would be in Scotland's best interests to separate from union. The "union" never has and never will be a union of equals. Unlike AxMxO I believe we would be better off both financially and culturally. The evidence is there, just not many people bother to look for it. Instead they get their info from the unionist newspapers like the "Sun" and "Daily Record".

    Saor Alba!

  • It's not equals as far as the UK goes Scotland is seen like a region, like Yorkshire. If it truly where equal all four constituting countries would have first ministers and parliaments and jointly would decide what was best for the union or one Prime minister above the four First Ministers.

  • because.. it's an instinct. it's their own culture, not englands. they should have their own right to have their own country, their own government, own land. It's something every country in the world wants, to function without another country over their shoulder.

  • what is instinct ?

  • Scotland has its own government, land, flag, country etc. Your behind the times. Most Scots don't want full independance as its financially not viable.

  • Saying Scotland has it's own government is really like saying the head prefect is in charge of the school.

  • Scotland's North Sea Oil and Whisky Industry is about the only revenue asset the Westminster Government has got left coming in now. They sold everything else off or gambled it on the stock exchange and lost. I dont think it is in Scotland's financial interest to continue subsidising England. The South should learn to stand on their own feet. It is in their best interest in the long term. After all - who wants to be a lame duck?

  • Cant belive biggots like you still exist. The union was formed to help everyone, not just you. The only freedom left is the freedom of speech, so use it sparingly and to good use.

  • It is not bigotry to point out that the sweetie shop has been ram raided by stock exchange gamblers, corrupt bankers and conniving politicians who have only been looking after themselves. We would be much better off opening our own shop. Scotland would have to look after its own interests. That is not bogotry. It is common sense.

  • So a Scotsman can look at his passport and see nationality Scottish. Like when a Frenchman looks at his passport or an American looks at his. We don't hate England, in fact I'd fight for them to have an independent parliament too, I'd stand beside them in any war, but why should we not have the same rights as any other country?

  • Your not another country......Were all British

  • I'm British in the sence my country is on an Island called Britain. Just like I'm European as that is the contenent I'm a part of. What is Scotland then? A region? A region that enters the world cup and has it's own parlament hmmmm.

  • If its about football, bye.......

  • Naeone asked us Scots, if we agree wi' that, when it happened.

    We were nae always British.

    ALBA GU BRATH!

  • No one asked me if I wanted to be anything at birth......

  • Comment removed

  • what are we Scots without Scotland? :) It pulls us in, still, I cant wait till she is independent again. I would fight for it!

  • Thank you for sharing this truly touching amazming video:)..Bonnie Scotland i love you with all my heart and soul and my soul keeps being pulled towards you for it is a looking to come home even though i was not born there.I feel such a strong connection to you.SCOTLAND WILL BE FREE AS WILLIAM WALLACE HAD FOUGHT WITH ALL HIS HEART AND SOUL TO MAKE AS SUCH."Oh Flower Of Scotland we will see your likes again":)xxx

  • Song by Capercaille (Delirium) I went to the hazelwood yesterday seeking hazelnuts for food / But on every branch and twig Was your pursuing face/I went to the fertile shore yesterday/To gather cockles for a meal/Every single shell was filled with/Your beauty my love/I went into the alehouse/To expel you from my head/Every glass I raised your beauty/Overflowed from it/I went early to bed last night/To escape you in sleep But you kept me awake till I'd make you a song etc.. *****

  • Rise up and be a nation again!

  • Thats IT! I'm moving my whole family back to Scotland...land of my ancestors, feel the ground. 2017 huh..thats great...maybe we can push that up a few years by investing in Sco.

  • I agree with you, I have been thinking the same thing. Something inside just keeps pulling me that way. Can't explain it and powerless to fight it. I am a Knox and belong to Clan MacFarlane so it would be very interesting especially given the restoration work being done by our clan on ancestral places in Scotland.

  • Beautiful video. ^^
