@gregg3791 That is not entirely true, we do have telescopes (both deep space and infrared) that are able to gather data, thus showing us images of our own galaxy. So while many of the astronomical images that the "mass public" looks at are indeed artistic renderings, that is only because the raw data would appear unattractive to the mass population. In short, yes there are pictures of our own galaxy.
