Tnx for the reply dude, I'm still on the amp journey hehe..... finding the perfect amp is hard! But anyway I'm taking my time cause I dont wanna rush myself into buying an amp which wont last on me for quite some time! Tnx again and rock on!
@andythrash ive been usin a marshall dsl 100 i got on ebay 3years ago for £350 and ive only had to change valves but the tones ive heard comin from these amps have made me think.... well not think as such... WANT to get one :] but as u say dont rush in find ur own tone as it were :] tho from wot ive heard stay away from bugera's :]
RE the question about can the VC30 be kept quiet for bedroom practice? Not really. Its a loud amp that sounds better the more you crank it. Sure you can turn it real low to almost zero but then it sounds muffled.
I've had my VC30 for a few years & its great. Its best for jazz, blues, indie, pop, rock & hard rock. But It struggles with metal.
The stock H&H speakers were rubbish so I swapped em for 2 Celestions: 1 x vintage 30 & 1 x G12H. Its like a different beast now.
Hey dude can the VC30 be kept low for bedroom practise? Bdw I own an mxr eq, digitech sc-2 valve distorion and df7 distortion factory pedals. Thanks man great tones demo!
Great amps, I used to own the LC series (15 then a 30) and thought the VC ones were a bit lifeless. Got a VC recently, took a little while to get used to it but I re-got a LC30 a bit after that and it didn't compare.
Am getting a VC30 soon after owning a 15 for a few months, superb cleans, drive & reverb.
I'd deffinately take the VC over the LC, but it depends what your after, very differently voiced amps. The VC's cleans are outstanding, the LC's a bit more sparkly but thinner, packs alot more punch when it's dirty, more of an american voicing really. But it does get quite brittle at high volumes. I dig cleans and light OD more, which the VC is made for.
laney is fantastic. i have a lil gc 30 that i bought 4 a prac amp and the dist channel is a lil lacking but it makes up 4 it with incred clean mode. the bastard is loud as hell 4 what it is too. it's almost as loud as my marshall 1/2 stack just with out the depth.
i see you are very subjective and know your thing very well!i'm planning to buy this amp,is it really good?i want a tube amp with very good clean(and good crunch) to put stompboxes in front of it?does it handles them good?with the stock speaker...
It's a great amp for the money. Have had mine for almost 2 years. The cleans are exceptional, the crunch is decent with the gain under 3/4, I don't use the OD channel much since I picked up a Catalinbread SK, I have 7 pedals running directly into it at the moment, and a holy grail in the loop. (With more coming soon.) They all sound great. :)
IMO id take the 112 over both. The speakers in the 112, 210 and 212 are all pretty poor. So the 112 would make it cheaper to swap out to a decent speake.
The 212 pushes more air (A touch louder, not thats its needed, its allready ridiculously loud), and has better bass response, the 210 is the lightest, less bass response but again pushes more air than the 112.
ive got a 212, and it has a 2x12 extention cabinet on it running at 4 ohms, so its really a 412, and i wouldnt say it's ridiculusly loud.. maybe my hearings going from playing so loud for so long but i dont think it's that loud
The VC30 on this video sounds alright. I tried one of these at my local music shop and i wasn't impressed, this is brighter than the one i tried! i eventually went for a Vox ac15 and love it to bits. Its very loud for 15 watts
Its all personal, generally i dont like the AC15s much tbh, but the AC30s are superb. The 15s and 30s are different beasts altogether. The VC30 is a indirect copy of the AC30, the chances are, if you prefered the AC15 over the 30 then the VCs wont really be your thing.
can you please, tell me what guitar did ou use to play? please, tell me which pickups you use too... it seems a good sound, I use a boss me-50 pedal and a Tagima K1 guitar and, even without a valvestate amp, it sounds pretty good... I wonder how good will it be on a VC-30
I used my Fender CIJ 62 Jaguar, with crappy stock pickups, so naturally, it's a bright sound. With the Tagima it'll probably sound alot ballsier and beefier.
Also, just for reference, valvestate is just a crappy series of Hybrid amps Marshall put out, theyre generally just called Valve / Tube amps.
got a laney vc30 212 on saturday second hand for £300!! my god my ears are killing and i only had it on 4 in the house!!getin 2 wizards for it soon cant wait(0: i am amazed how nice and warm the amp sounds for the price,iv had amps 2 3 times expensive and the laney kills em all, what a amazing amp its mine for keeps!!
Doesnt sound boxy at all, the 212 is just unnecisary cost and extra weight for a teeny bit more bass, and in the future, you'll probably want to upgrade the crappy stock celestion, so the 212 doesnt really support its case. If you plan on playing just pub gigs, its probably overkill, 30 valve watts.
The volume levels are enough to probably cause some long term hearing damage.
Beautiful tones there, how would this amp sound with a les paul type guitar? I personally prefer a fatter fuller sound than what you have there, would the amp sound good with a mahogany guitar and humbuckers?
Is your cij jaguar stock? Because the sound is really good... I want to order a cij jaguar from Ishibashi in Japan but I've red so many stuff on the net about bridge buzzing.
Not entirely, I replaced the saddles with mustang string savers. If you buy any kind of jaguar the bridge 100% will buzz. It's just i've had 2 years fiddling with the thing setting it up, putting a heavier gauge onto it, i didn't need to tape the posts or anything after that its vanished, most of the string buzz comes from the screws being too small to lock to the threads properly in the saddles and in some cases the actual bridge.
But after all the the buzz has gone and its one of the nicest feeling guitars you will ever play. Well worth the trouble imo. So dont buy one expecting to get away with it. You wont, but just look forward to getting it set up properly. Besides, the buzz wasnt picked up by the pickups in the first place.
When I played in 3 piece band I bought Lane VC30. It sounded nice and full for 3 piece. Than we got another guitarist and he kept killing me with F. Junior Pro so I bought one too and sold the Laney. I am still glad I did that. Laney was more versatile but not very lively and somewhat dark sounding. I can hear it in this clip too. I did like the Laney drive channel though. Now I've build 15W amp and used Invader speaker from another VC30. So now I got the VC30 tone again if I want it.
If you didnt like it, sucks for you. :P But i havent been able to find an amp that competes with it, not for the price anyway, it's meant to be a dark amp. It's personal taste, if you replaced it with a fender its obvious your looking for something a bit brighter.
Sure there are better amps, if it was a perfect world I wouldve walked out of that store with an Orange Rocker or a Vox AC30, but its not, for the price, versatility and sound of this thing I couldn't say no.
Hey, my friend's got this VC30, but 1x12". However, I've got a VOX AC30, so we of course got some compared them a lot of times. We both said, that AC30 is a bit brighter amp. The clean sounds are very similar, but the distortion is diffrent. Both amps have good middle-range, but I don't have an overdrive channel in my VOX, and that's a small disadvantage of my amp. When You crank both amps up, Laney seems to get more drive - it has got less headroom.
Lucky soul, I love the AC30. Gorgeous amp, a bit more sparkle to it of course. But the Laney is quite an obvious clone of the vox but with a bit of something else added. For the money, you can't do better though.
I've not had a chance to crank a Vox, so I can't compare, take your word for it though. :)
Thats with the invaders. I tried the VC30210 with jensens the other day and man it was bright perfectly jangle and chimy with bright off (using a coil tap on a humbucker guitar) and nice and smooth on humbucker setting until putting bright on then nice and jangle again. This was through the low input. It's sounded alot better then my pro junior (and I've changed the speaker in that to a blue) just more clarity and less harshness!
The newer models dont have the invaders, they have Celestion Seventy 80s in them. I've tried out pretty mcuh all newer versions of the VC, I noticed very minimal difference in the sound, both the Jensens and the Celestions, well lets just say, they dont bring the best out of it. I'm looking for a good speaker upgrade tbh, but for whats a warm amp, it can get very trebely, and a speaker upgrade will prolly bring it alive.
man i love my vc 30...it s just under repair right now..the output trannys went out on my...played it hard as it should be...but iknew itd happen so anyways.
do u liked the amp?
im pretending to buy one....

Theyre getting alot more well known nowadays, great amps for the money. It's a Japanese reissue. Great guitar.

Seems your Jag has no sustain :/ or is it just poor pickups?
Lietuvaitis2 3 years ago
I'm demoing the amp. Not trying to get screaming soaring metaly sustain from it, just showing what it was built for.
Yes the jags pickups are poor. But taking into consideration the cheapo mic, youtube compression and windows movie maker quality recording.
My jag sustains like a btich when I want it too doll.
