  • Just heard Toots at the Jungle in Negril. We stayed across the road at the Whistling Bird Resort. I couldnt sleep because the music was so loud, went to the entrance of the resort and sat there for 2 hours, leaning against a wall, smoking, and grooving. Paid not a penny.

  • Winter in West Jamaica, the rest of the year in West Virginia.

  • Is that Sly and Robbie on bass and drums ? Brilliant

  • Great version of a great song

  • OK guys, before you diss... where would you rather be?

West Virginia in the coal mines?

Or West Jamaica on the beaches with the rasta girls?

    I thought so.

  • @zapdude1

HEY!! I **almost** resemblel that remark!! LOL

WV moun10mama, born'n'raised..currently living in Charleston..(for a little while longer anyway!)

but give me West Jamaica, beaches, some fruity/tropical drinks with an umbrella in the glass, and a Winston (see Angela Bassett in "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" for clarification) -- yup..consider me GONE!!

  • If you want to hear this song thoroughly murdered, check out the version by "Hermes House Band" ---- AAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHH.

  • when wwas this wonder recorded??

  • Big goosebumps and a huge smile while i see and hear this song! Amazing......

  • BEST COVER OF THIS SONG EVER.

  • This music inspires me to live.

  • Man U jus gotta smile

  • @ Gerry Change the channel then, Dipshit. @ Everyone else. Is that Gregory Hines on guitar :-)

  • @Luckyjasondrum I think the guitar player is Cat Coore, from Third World.

  • @matginmon Cool. He does look a lot like the actor Gregory Hines.

  • @matginmon I agree. Backed by Sly and Robbie.

  • @ticksinapail I don't like West Virginia either. States with squiggly borders are always disturbing. But I don't think they should have changed the song. You don't want to mess with a classic hit like this. Check out my band's new "Country Roads" video. We always show proper respect for the original by learning all the parts correctly.

  • This is what I call ruining a perfectly good song !!!

  • muuuuuuuy BUENO..

  • 100 times better than John Denver's version

  • @skankidd i met him at a show. he was such a nice guy. he was gettin somthing from a vending machine or somthin and i said "toots??" and he turned and i dont remember much more except staring at him and shaking his hand very gently. then he pounded over his heart..awsome guy. and i saw him order a drink from the bar. he said "a WHISKey" lol.

  • Now that's what I call music!

  • Smashes John Denver like a grape

  • And still constantly pumping after must be 20 years of this recording!

  • Thanks for uploading such a great tune! :)

  • @crimsonsamuraiftw Thanks for the thumbs up: )

  • You cant help but smile.

  • no drum and bass or electronic synthisers can ever make you feel as happy as this right here!

  • @eldeano1

not many western bass players can groove like reggae guys.

but come together with paul mccartney on bass grooves and sympathy with the devil by the stones, keith richards on bass, not wyman, keith actually did their best basslines.

basses should be played by hands, not computers, damn, musicians should make music.

  • thats a fucking jam right there.

  • Love you Toots, for bringing such joy into this world!! keep singing!!

  • OH my, you can 'reggae' almost every song in the world!! Brings back memories from the eighties, reggae club in Montreal where I met my Jamaican love and he introduced me to Toots' music in 'mono' LOL For reggae lovers, check out some of the popular Xmas songs, they sound great!!

  • @Skinhead1960s ok, fine..But if you were to walk around with a robe and cross around your neck people might tend to think you are a priest. if it looks like a duck pull it over

  • @Skinhead1960s Skinheads ruin everyday that thay live well let me know what positive thing,s thay do ....... then just name one

  • @Skinhead1960s: are you being coy? Yes you are. I'll leave it to you to explain your username and 1960s ...I was born at night but not last night :)

  • @Skinhead1960s: I doubt he was going for "metaphor" - his comments don't strike me as deeply literary - afterall , this is YouTube. So youdon't think I don't understand the beauty of music? Let's just say I've been a real muscian since the 4th grade - read, write, play, bands, orchestras, jazz, sight reading, Latin, classical, et al. Suggestion: try reading for comprehension next time and what is up with your username, lol?

  • @skankidd get a job the world might be that dull

  • 1976, Fnac Paris Etoile...thanks...toots...thank country music too!

  • Wow. This is pathetic.

  • year?

  • Marley is a legend, but the is so much more there to be explored and appreciated. I played some Toots to some 15 year old (white) kids who had never heard of them. All I can say is that there is hope for the X Factor generation yet. ........ quality is quality and will always be recognised

  • @skankidd: if you think we're in a "dull world" , that's on you. Unplug your computer and go outside - it's a big world out there and never a dull moment EVER.

  • he also looks like my grandad 8D

  • go deh Toots! shake dat ting!! haha

  • That ending...it's like they stopped off in Motown on the way home to Jamaica...so good!

  • mto lokoooooo esse é Raiizzzzz de verdade...a origem do rasta....

  • on my Gosh.....what a song!! this version is the best....Go Toots& the Maytals!! love you!

  • So glad I found this version. Just what I need today. Great cover

  • Wow, nice cover of a great classic. Never heard this group before, but they did a great job with this song.

  • @matohibiki Check out "Sweet and Dandy" in the classic Jimmy Cliff movie, "The Harder They Come"...it's on youtube.

  • Shining like the Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this has to be the best cover of this song maan! ONE LOVE!!

  • I can't stop from smiling while listening to this

  • SOULFUL!

  • So sweet Toots . . you da man.

  • I've always loved this band and the music they play. Rasta forever.

  • This seem to be Third World Band doing the back stopping.

  • no other interpretation of this song comes close

  • exelente cover... good

  • u r a shit if u r asking this question ;)

  • Reggae is the best!

  • I love this version!

  • I see Sly and Robbie... and wait, is that Cat Coore?!?!?

  • I love this interpretation of the song . . .

  • his chocolate is so sexual

  • im seeing them live cant wait

  • i like early Bob stuff ,like "one cup of coffee" and especially "Judge Not" , because it's a lot more upbeat ,more Ska-ish...!

  • my favorite toots song. right up there with my favorite reggae songs.

  • Have to say ,i'm a fully fledged rock and roller ,and toots is the only reggae i can listen to...(sorry to all you reggae guys out there!)

  • What about Bob Marley?

  • To be honest , Bob is too mainstream for me... loads of people who have never heard anything reggaewise except UB40 tend to like Bob.. (Again this is written with total respect to all you rastas out there..) and didn't i read somewhere that Toots coined the phrase "reggae"?...I could be (and probably am) wrong...

  • i think you mentioned an important thing bob is really mainstream but i still love his music.

you can't judge about him because he is so mainstream, listen to his great songs.

  • ub40 and bob marley cannot be compared,ub40 is more pop-like,while bob's songs have true meaning and so on.

  • and all of UB40's famous songs are covers!

  • yessss ur right

  • I think that is their niche. They are known for their covers.

  • I really like a LOT of Marley song, because the have great structure and fine melodies and Robert was a great singer, but saying they have meaning is crazy, 95% of them are appraisals for the jewish god Jahwe. He was a religious fundamentalist nutjob!

  • what you are saying in the end is totally wrong. it seems you can't get the message realy :(

  • not theres a nut job

  • @viktorvaldemar aside from your obvious lack of any knowledge of the Rastafari belief your spelling was incorrect. to say they are without meaning is like saying the beatles were talentless hacks who have no meaning to any song they made. Also your defined knowledge of fundamentalist religion is in no way accurate.

  • you speak so proper,,and why do you call him robert....i forgot ,is his group called robert marley and the wailers or are you just his mother

  • @viktorvaldemar if you think that Bob Marley songs, of all the songs on Earth, are the ones that don't have a meaning, then you are completely missing the point.

  • i love this song, best reggae ever made

  • Great vocal talent Mr Hibbert. Up there with the the likes of Levi Stubbs. Greatly under rated in my opinion

  • heard it on radio 1 last is such a great version

  • beautiful song!

  • i love you trakia mizia macedonia black sea :P

  • almost heaven :)
