Just heard Toots at the Jungle in Negril. We stayed across the road at the Whistling Bird Resort. I couldnt sleep because the music was so loud, went to the entrance of the resort and sat there for 2 hours, leaning against a wall, smoking, and grooving. Paid not a penny.
WV moun10mama, born'n'raised..currently living in Charleston..(for a little while longer anyway!)
but give me West Jamaica, beaches, some fruity/tropical drinks with an umbrella in the glass, and a Winston (see Angela Bassett in "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" for clarification) -- yup..consider me GONE!!
@ticksinapail I don't like West Virginia either. States with squiggly borders are always disturbing. But I don't think they should have changed the song. You don't want to mess with a classic hit like this. Check out my band's new "Country Roads" video. We always show proper respect for the original by learning all the parts correctly.
@skankidd i met him at a show. he was such a nice guy. he was gettin somthing from a vending machine or somthin and i said "toots??" and he turned and i dont remember much more except staring at him and shaking his hand very gently. then he pounded over his heart..awsome guy. and i saw him order a drink from the bar. he said "a WHISKey" lol.
not many western bass players can groove like reggae guys.
but come together with paul mccartney on bass grooves and sympathy with the devil by the stones, keith richards on bass, not wyman, keith actually did their best basslines.
basses should be played by hands, not computers, damn, musicians should make music.
OH my, you can 'reggae' almost every song in the world!! Brings back memories from the eighties, reggae club in Montreal where I met my Jamaican love and he introduced me to Toots' music in 'mono' LOL For reggae lovers, check out some of the popular Xmas songs, they sound great!!
@Skinhead1960s ok, fine..But if you were to walk around with a robe and cross around your neck people might tend to think you are a priest. if it looks like a duck pull it over
@Skinhead1960s: I doubt he was going for "metaphor" - his comments don't strike me as deeply literary - afterall , this is YouTube. So youdon't think I don't understand the beauty of music? Let's just say I've been a real muscian since the 4th grade - read, write, play, bands, orchestras, jazz, sight reading, Latin, classical, et al. Suggestion: try reading for comprehension next time and what is up with your username, lol?
Marley is a legend, but the is so much more there to be explored and appreciated. I played some Toots to some 15 year old (white) kids who had never heard of them. All I can say is that there is hope for the X Factor generation yet. ........ quality is quality and will always be recognised
@skankidd: if you think we're in a "dull world" , that's on you. Unplug your computer and go outside - it's a big world out there and never a dull moment EVER.
To be honest , Bob is too mainstream for me... loads of people who have never heard anything reggaewise except UB40 tend to like Bob.. (Again this is written with total respect to all you rastas out there..) and didn't i read somewhere that Toots coined the phrase "reggae"?...I could be (and probably am) wrong...
I really like a LOT of Marley song, because the have great structure and fine melodies and Robert was a great singer, but saying they have meaning is crazy, 95% of them are appraisals for the jewish god Jahwe. He was a religious fundamentalist nutjob!
@viktorvaldemar aside from your obvious lack of any knowledge of the Rastafari belief your spelling was incorrect. to say they are without meaning is like saying the beatles were talentless hacks who have no meaning to any song they made. Also your defined knowledge of fundamentalist religion is in no way accurate.
@viktorvaldemar if you think that Bob Marley songs, of all the songs on Earth, are the ones that don't have a meaning, then you are completely missing the point.

you can't judge about him because he is so mainstream, listen to his great songs.
