It is NOT a smartphone but you DO NEED a data plan. I got this phone from Best Buy for free with a 2 year contract extension and in order for me to upgrade I HAD to get a data plan. This phone will NOT work without a data plan. Hope that clarifies any confusion

my only guess for samsung to release the exact same phone in a slightly different skin would be because there are some technical issues with the original. it is the same shit. what a scam. maybe the hardware allows the crappy browser to run a little faster but it's the same crap. with opera mini loaded. u can download the opera browser on the original. as i have. what a waste of money. i'll stick with my original, at least until i can get the Hero or Pre or something

Sprint has a block on all their phones so that you can't bluetooth data to or from the phones. They have phones with seperate business card apps to send that by partnering phones but everything else is blocked. I think thats bullsh1t. They do it so people buy more ringtones.

No, of course you can from websites. But on other phones if you have a ringtone that you like you can actually send it to other phones nearby. Like you go to bluetooth and couple with another phone. Some phones you just go to the options menu when you have the ringer selected and SEND TO BLUETOOTH is right in the menu. You can give anyone whose phone has bluetooth capability that ringtone. Sprint has that diabled on their network even though the phone comes with it from the factory.

Get the palm pre everyone. It'll be here in less than two weeks. The S30 is a good phone. Besides the design, this one comes with one battery as compared to the older instinct which had 2 batteries. The old instinct weighs a little more. I don't know if anyone else noticed but the S30 doesn't look as prone to scratches either.

I sell Sprint phones for a living. The S30 is not worth it but it's good cause we now have four kind of colours/designs to sell from. I've sold about ten of these and the customers seem pleased with the design. Is it worth upgrading for current Instinct users? I Think not. Is it worth waiting for Palm Pre? Depends on the phone you have right now.

Besides this phone, the HTC Touch Diamond for Sprint is under-rated. We definitely need more touchscreens and I don't mean phones like the Centro.

I actually had to give up the Instinct because it was so buggy. I was one of the first adapters. If I were a Sprint salesman, I don't know how I'd live with myself knowing I was pushing such complete shit on to people. I mean, selling the Instinct is selling a headache. Does the s30 incorporate fixes needed from the first Instinct?

I ended up getting a touch pro btw. I'm so very pleased with it. Anything I need it to do, it does it, and if it doesn't do it, a free app tends to fix that.

I have 30 days to return it but don't know if I did the right decision. I love the visual voicemail and the speech commands. It no longer works as a modem. Pocket express is gone as-well. Cant use google maps on the new one. There is so much you cannot do on the new s30 that the old instinct could. Fucking read before you reply to people.

Opera mini comes on the old instinct as well. You just have to download it(for free)

Do not buy the s30!!! I had this and took it back and traded it in for the original. The new one is cheaply made. They messed it up, there is not pocket express. The weather app is no longer an app, it just takes you to twc website. It's crap. You cannot use it as a modem like you can the old one. It doesn't come with a case stylus or second battery with charging pack. It's sad.
