If the Democrats were smart, they would not reject the bailout and say that they couldn't reach a full agreement with the Republicans on the details of any bailout. After the economy collapses, people might finally learn that "unregulated 'free' economy" doesn't work. After the U.S. and the neo-con supporters are humbled and the dollar is no longer king, a multi-polar world might emerge and the U.S. might stop threatening everyone.

Well free market capitalism is the best means and it, in itself is not the best ends. There are people who are in tough spots, and like many in the past can contribute greatly to the people as a whole. That is why we can have funds like we do now by individuals to help those people. If the group does a bad job then its funds can be cut off and a new group can take its place etc.
