You can spot a Banks composition a mile off, especially from this period. That wodge of synthesizers and the faux brass and oboe sounds are just sooooo post Trick Of The Tail. :-p
The beauty in Tony's music is that he weaves gorgeous plaintive melodies through chord structures (many minor) that continually hang there, never achieving full resolution.
@BanksianCentral Oh, this are good news! (I really don't dare to play the record anymore, this stuff is sooo extremeley rare... so I will listen to it onto here, from now on...) ;-)
There is a romantic feeling like his opening album and songs like "Water's of Lethe" and other instrumentals from A curious feeling. I like this home made sound, without orchestra, just the vintage keys...thanks
i got this album on vinyl in 1983- some of the pieces are so moving- not one to play when you"ve split up with your girlfriend!!- you can clearly tell where genesis got all that emotion from with banks and hackett.
Tony Banks is definitely one of the most underrated keyboarders/musicians. Probably because he always retains a low profile and his music is simply beautiful (as opposed to cool and trendy).
funny story....saw this movie on TV in 80's, saw the credit for Tony Banks in the intro. Wasn't sure it was the same him until I heard more of the film score, then I was sure. Forgot about the beauty of this piece until a couple years later while I was sitting on the toilet in a Red Lobster restaurant bathroom and this version started playing out of the ceiling speakers. Most heavenly crap I've ever taken....
It was playing out of the overhead speakers in a Red Lobster restaurant. I was on the toilet at the time. Had to be between 1985-1987 while I worked there.
This is the first I've heard of a Tony Banks solo song being played in public other than a radio. If I heard a Tony Banks song played in a restaurant, I'd probably spit out my drink. It's rare that something like that happens.
Perhaps somebody looked in all kinds of places for LP's (back then) to make a muzak cassete tape. They came across this Tony Banks track, and someone with tin ears might think: "ah piano and strings, just what I need." I am never offended by that. There is award winning (deservedly I should say) music out there, beautifully produced - and to some ears it sounds like muzak. They probably like this trendy "songwriter" stuff with just a simplistic piano and a woman singing like she's on Valium.

What a good compositions he write for GENESIS!
'Cause we all know that the group sign but the most important part is from Tony Banks: it's the sign of the master!!!!!!

@NarcissistsDie you are right. I think that without writing the name of Tony, everyone who know him can recognize the "sign" of the master... :,)

Pity the music was editted, such beautiful track was cut in the most emotive section!

There is an online petition (google Wicked Lady petition) to get the album reissued to CD. Please sign it if you're interested.

@skintrade I'm glad someone else feels the same way as I do. Every time whether it's Youtube, Google, or anything really his ass comes up...

Oddly enough, I think this would have sounded better more as a piano piece with the keyboards just accentuating it rather than taking it over.

his album seven could have been as beautiful if he recorded it at home. he lost it because of this stupid arrogent idea(the orchestra)

Yeah, I have no idea how some obscure Tony Banks track got in the muzak mix at Red Lobster.

Guys the LP is so bloody hard to find, Im glad to have one, just got it by chance but would never sell it to anybody.

Here's some advice: Try ripping it to MP3 (how to do it is up to you to find out), and putting it in a torrent for all to share :)
