  • You guys should of demonstrated some ice fishing on that lake, maybe next time

    gear up for that .

  • Thanks to the both of you, I hope this doesn't sound cheesy but seeing you guys get out on trips has been my inspiration for planning my first backpacking trip at the beginning of May. Thanks for the vids.

  • @808Arsenal nuff said

  • Haha I was laughing when they thought that using a ferrorod is all natural. FRICTION fire is what I would consider all natural.

  • it's amazing how nutn has influenced the entire firearms/survival/gear head community here on youtube. Even people like travis haley has his own channel making similar types of videos going over gear. I remember 3 years ago there weren't nearly as many people doing this stuff and nutn always had the most thorough reviews. Now here we are in 2012, nutn's the biggest youtube reviewer on firearms and outdoor type of stuff and you have famous instructors like haley following in HIS footsteps.

  • nutn, love your gear/ firearms reviews. im also a big fan of survior shows, like the one with bear grylls. i belive you should try to seek an endorsement with the out doors network and get your own show brother. in the mean time though keep the vids coming !

  • NUTN! you put the first fire attempt out by chucking those twigs on that were too thick!

  • whenever we fart while ice fishing we call it a self heating device ;)

  • Crocket20 rocks! Great vid guys!

  • a.) I have never seen anyone disappointed with Mora's, i used a Mora scout to learn how to baton wood,on a 6IN thick log used a 3.75 in knife.....

2.) I have a friend who has used a pair of boots for (3+) years and hasn't had to replace the laces since.

  • NUTN!!!! How do I get in on one of your youth trips?!

  • Wow. Nutnfancy is working that wood like a woodpecker.

  • Hey Nutn have you had any experience with the Chris Caine Survival Knife? I saw him do a video on it and it looked an awesome chopper. Wonderin' how it will compare with the RTAKII.

  • At the time of this post, there were 19 dislikes. 19 jealous people need to suck less.

  • "That's what my wife tells me" hahahahaha

You and crocket and bugget should all go on an adventure. That would be extremely entertaining, especially with the lack of bugget as of late.

  • @nutnfancy i am 14 and really like backpacking/camping i have a coldsteel bushman, and my edc swiss army knife, but was wondering some essential gear i should pick up... plz respond thx

  • If You like that tent you should try the Black Diamond Hi-Lite. It is an awesome one piece system, super lite and compact. They call it a 2 person tent but I wouldn't want to sleep in there with another dude. But it does give you a little extra room for 1. The one downfall is the price at around MSRP $300. I got lucky and found mine at an REI Garage Sale for $130

  • what knife was it that he used to split that log at 8:50 ?

  • @shizz152 If you pause the video at 10:15 you can see all the details about the knife.

  • no part 4? :(

  • Man, I wish you would bring me along in one of these backpacking adventures. I'm only sixteen but I love going outdoors. After accidentally discovering some of your videos I was hooked. I got the blade addiction and I've bought The Ka-Bar Combat, CRKT Drifter, H&K Ascender, and Kershaw Skyline after watching your knife reviews. Anyway, I know you've said in past adventure videos (like "Where The Air Is Thin) that you like keeping those areas to yourself but I would love to join you one day :D

  • nutnfancy, will there be a timepiece/wristwatch review? :-)

  • I think you're having trouble with that fire because in order for those sparks to light anything in those conditions you need much thinner fibers.

Top of my head i'm thinking, find an old asp with dry bark get a piece of that, maybe two so you can use one underneath. Cut very thin strips of one piece and rub em together in your hands, kinda like you would with willow.

Then find some pine trees and cover the fibers you got in the sticky stuff. And get dry needles at the bottom of one.

    might work

  • What do you use to sharpen your blades, they are so sharp

  • The quality of your vids just keeps getting higher and higher nutn', thank you and Crocket for taking us along on another top adventure/testing hike.

  • Have you tried the military Gel replacement for trioxane bars? whats your opinion of them?

  • I gotta say guys... this just brings inspiration to a whole new level for me. Thanks for bringing us along again and showing us what beauty is out there for us to behold.

  • Awesome as always, but I'd love to see you attempt a lightweight setup!? I understand your system works for you.--- Have you ever wanted to experience a more minimalist kit? Could you get your pack under 30 lbs for an overnight or weekend trip???

  • Nutnfancy have relly inspired me i have been hiking 1 time and it was awesome i have also been buying mulitools and knifes im a big fan

  • i clicked on this because i thought it was a man-scaping tutorial

  • hey Nutn you should do some wood splitting with some of Fitzens blades!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love these over night camping videos. Probably my favorites and second is the run n gun vids. Keep it up nutn and TWEET more, hah

  • Loved it. Lots of energy and time to get that awesome footage. Thanks guys.

  • I'm going on a 2 day backpacking trip tomorrow, can't wait!

  • @Xarcas Moras seem to work a charm for the majority of jobs but I found the tip is a bit brittle if you're hollowing out a spoon or knife fighting iron clad bears. (maybe not the second one) I tried to make one of the "one log, snow proof fires (you split a log in four then bind the pieces together, then put tinder in the gaps between the quarters then light the tinder so it's insulated from the ground and is self sustaining) " with it and the end did chip off so just a warning.

  • Always enjoy your backpacking videos nutn. You and crocket inspire me to hit the trail. Thanks nut. Thanks crocket.

  • another great fire starter ive found is the stuff from those hanging pots,I think its coconut fur.....just a tip

  • just the standard urine you put in there, greatness!!!

  • 10:37

    "that's a big log."

"that's what my wife tell me." lol

  • an hour for the fire?! OY VE

  • hey Nutn i'm kinda sick and tired of what's on between you and fitzen ....

but common stop being so childish and just set al those vids of you and fitzen back to NON-private .... i mean Fitzen still has your vids linked on his website so clearly the problem is a bit shifted to your side .... just let us watch those cool and fun vids again about you guys discussing knives, edges, weapons, self defence .... those are actually the only vids i could watch day in 'n day out .... stop being stubborn!

  • Awesomoe Video! Great knife testing too.Gee, that Buck can relly split some wood. Oh, that fire looked so cool when it had melted down into the snow. Great camera work of the area you were in, very nice view(s).

  • Great vid!! I'm just wondering what kind of Sunglasses you two are wearing in this vid? Thanks!

  • SOLD ME ONE!!! Sick knife, to go along side the Rtak2!!

  • how come you guys go to sleep so late, or is that the usual time. i'm guessing you don't sleep for long?

  • @12x You're right, I never get enough sleep. Much of the TNP work is done after 1am in fact. On this trip we get a late start because Cr0cket20 couldn't get off of work earlier. And all the hiking and camp work takes hours. The TNP review goals I set have a lot to do with it too: I wanted to show firecraft under the limitations discussed on this trip. If I were alone I'd just use the stove and make no fire.

  • Just got my Buck Hoodlum in yesterday, aawsome

  • @franj1983 So glad you like it...a beautiful blade!

  • In german army we had often fire challenges. 2 matches only and Biologie 1 Liter of water. Makes u Handy with fire preperation and efficient fires.

  • wait..what does this remind off...right on the tip of my tongue..it's like , like, like....

    SNOWBACK MOUNTAIN...lmao

  • Very fun vid series...though, yet again, farts and giggles abound! There is just something about farting in the wilderness. Must be the laughing gas. I suppose that it works as a self defense system to keep critters away since nothing living can survive that much methane! By the way, Nutn, thanks for the tip on the MSR Pocket Rockit. AWESOME little stove!

  • @cmonsterz Thanks for the fun comment and I totally agree. I owed Cr0cket20 and it was wondrous payback. And I too love that Pocket Rocket, best stove I've ever used hands down. I will review it.

  • I would def. bring a snowboard.

  • I'm watching this as I try to watch "surviving THE CUT" on the Discovery channel...pretty cool. check it out guys

Nutn...thanks for sharing these types of wilderness vids, they're great for those of us who don't live in that type of terrain. Only thing missing is Allie

  • @bulltastik I hope to have Allie back in these trips soon. Thanks man.

  • Nutn.....let Cr0cket go to sleep;) it's after 2am

  • "get me some sticks bro" <- friends forever <3

  • Oh, I always get inspired by your videos to get out and adventure in the great Norwegian wilderness. But today, terror struck our peacefull country and have led the whole country into sorrow, me included.

Hope things in Norway will sort out soon, cant stand to see my country in this shape.

And thanks nutn and crocket, you are great inspirations to me for adventuring in the wilderness.

  • @MrPhotoFreakish Sorry, I see it was kind of a random comment, but dont know what to say to your vid this day.

Have a good day nutnfancy =)

  • @MrPhotoFreakish Thank you!

  • @MrPhotoFreakish I am sorry for that awful Norwegian tragedy. Again we see that evil people stand to butcher the innocent. Watch my "Close to Engage" video for my thoughts on these events. The Sheepdog should be armed and step in to cut short these mass killings. I hope all heals over there.

  • @MrPhotoFreakish what Breivik did is an outrageous crime, and I hope peace comes to Norway again. Horrible deed of a person who seems to feel no remorse for what he planned and committed.

  • To me the Mora is the no excuse knife:

Fixed blade too heavy? take a Mora

Really should have a knife ready to go in your bugout kit, but you're on a budget? Put in a Mora.

Want a lightweight do it all backup knife in your backpack? get a Mora.

    It shouldn't be your 'primary'.

If all you got is a Mora though, it can do all the jobs easier than other knives it's size due to the scandi grind. But dont wait till 11 pm to get to it, you'd want to scout for tinders (pine trees etc) to get a hot fire

  • @Xarcas Loving the Moras so far....incredible values on these blades.

  • @nutnfancy thanks, the reply means much to me.

Maybe It's just the 'cause I happen to own a couple' aspect, but I always thought they did well for what they are.

And they cost like 25 euros to us , .. well.. Euro's xD.

That's like the price of a single person steak in most restaurants I know

  • @nutnfancy where do you get your mora knives from (online, i mean)...i'm in canada and the one that dude was holding (the one with green slim sheath) looked nice.....

  • @nutnfancy Mora has justr come out with an upgrade on the Bushcraft. The Bushcraft Surival. Knife, firesteel and diamond stone in one sheath.

  • Gotta say nutnfancy, you're kinda spoiled with the wood you got down there. I mean cmon, perfectly seasoned aspen? I'd like to see you split a wet chunk of fir or cedar with that thing. Thats what we deal with up here in BC!

  • i sure wish i could do that

  • enjoyed. Your friend Cr0cket20 has a carrying vest system, what is that? Did he make it?....Thanks

  • This was awesome! It was the first part of the series I've seen. Definitely going to watch the first two parts.

  • Just finished up the final chapter in this series, GREAT part 3 love the knife testing and firemaking. That Buck Hoodlum will probably increase in sales MAJOR after this vid. Thanks for the vids Nutn.........and thumbs up on adventure vids with Crocket - he is a class act!

  • dude, they make a stainless version of the kettle. its bomb proof i love it. hang that shit over the fire and your set for days.

  • I think we all should take a moment, and pray for the victims of the shooting in Utoya Norway I have family there! At least for me my thoughts and prayers go out to them!

  • Holy crap the hoodlum splits wood better than a hatchet

  • this is a really cool video but i have a question. In your mind what is the best survival knife.

  • Hi Nutn- nice video my friend. See you and Crockert together is great. You saying you like to anyone come out and start a fire. You can always learn something. From me you can't, I learned from the two of you. Love the beauty you showed us that Heavenly Father has give us to see. The building of memories. Excellent and worth the wait. Thanks for sharing.

  • Here's a "high five in the comments"

  • thanks for part3. cant wait for part4 :D

  • Awesome video!

  • I never understood why guys enjoy their flatchulence so much? lol. I am a male, but I never understood it.

  • ...there are one major drawback with norway...however...norway is VERY VERY expensive...i paid aprox 2.8 dollar for a liter(not gallon) of car gas...but that being said...if TNP ever travel to europe...go for norway...

  • ...if you are located in northwestern europe...and don´t have the money and/or time to travel to the western USA...thy norway...the mountains in norway are probably the most beautiful in the world...and because norway is a highly developed country...you will be as safe as you can be in the mountains...i realy got the feel that i was on a "nutnfancy adventure" in norway...without hiking very far into the mountains...and if you should superman hiker...norway got something for you too...

  • That IS "one of THE Coolest Shot EVER!" Later...

  • Out there, doin it!

  • Middle aged men have strange hobbies..

  • i love to see when work becomes into fun!

  • what kind of guns do you guys take up there when your in the wilderness.

  • this is a really cool video i think this stuff is pretty cool to see people doing this stuff in todays modern world.

  • I want a Hoodlum for sure now that I've seen this. Wow

  • hard to believe that there's still so much snow in the middle of summer (well mostly the middle), but the higher ele's (9500ft.?!?) was the major contributor with the stable, by that I mean not a lot of extreme changes, in the apparently cooler temps. But there it is right on video; several feet of snow. good stuff none the less guys. I think Ron woulda loved t'see the vid of the Hoodlum in action in those types of conditions and the paces you guys put it thru.

  • dude, rockin video

  • what is a good survival knife.

  • But what about the Mora? ;-) Great video, guys!!

  • Need review of Sierra designs tent. Thinking about buying one and would like to know more. Thanks

  • good thing you didn't decide to bring the pack rafts up there with you. Would have been a little disappointing. lol

  • Love the wood craft and use of your tools. But I am a lazy when it comes to all that work. I used to winter camp allot in the Boundary Waters and this was what we did. One guy would start digging a hole in the snow. The rest would collect wood. We would throw is all into the hole fire and drop a railroad flair into it. With in a hour plus there would be a big burnt out area to the ground that you could go in around the fire just wearing a tee shirt in sub 0 weather. Keep the great Vid’s coming!

  • i know ESEE were kinda dicks to nutn but that knife impressed the heck outta me in its work ability in those sub-zero temps! [sub-zero vid,i believe] I'd take the Rtak2 or ESEE Junglas. good weight to me. I'd love to hate ESEE but the knife is amazing.

  • I'm fresh off a 8 mile trip yesterday in 100+degree temps with heat index 100+. that snow looks refreshing to me. I had 40lbs on my back & just like to back u guys up on the fact its not easy.[nutn & his 80lbs packs!] *I'd like to support the hoodlum BUT i like options&if i can have a knife do great at chopping &splitting, i'll take it.[ESEE] same w/sleeping systems-i'm for a system that will give me the best quality sleep i can get to recharge. it's all "good" weight to me. Great vid nutn! Thx

  • Need your help. Can you help us? Please do a look up of this video on youtube. (Dash Cam: Canton PD "Notification" Arrest & Officer Goes Berserk / Threatens) we CHLs of Ohio Conceal Carry need your help. Please do a shout out for us. Please help our CHL in Ohio organization. I am your sub. Please look at video. Released last night. Please help us.

  • Unless you know something I don't, I am under the impression it is a very bad idea to force dry leather boots, especially next to the heat of an open fire? Loved the vid as always dude.

  • the suspense was killing me.

  • far as food goes, I think I'd just pack some Rice/Ramen (grain and carbs), jerky (meat and protein), craisens (fruit, vitamins and minerals) I know youd have to pack more water but its a trade off I guess.

  • Crocket20 was Crocket420 in high school lol.

  • When I make a (natural) fire I make a small pile of very fine wood shavings and bark that has been crushed up until it is powder. But before that I have a tee pee out of small sticks usually fairly thickly covered with an opening were I stuff some loosely Brocken down bark. And that's how I do it my dad taught me how to and I hope to pass it on. Hope this helps.

  • I can't believe Nutn said Judo Chop, lol wow.

  • Great video! I did this hike with my scout troop last summer and it was great!

  • all that knocking arround in the woods your going to give sasquach hunters hope. I watched that sasquach hunter joke of a show and they say squaches like to communicate by knocking on trees. Its sad people look into fake crap so much

  • keep these videos coming

  • While I love my Mora Clipper, I have still yet to see anyone demo a Mora knife in conditions like you show here. I've seen quite a few videos of guys telling us how great they are, (and they are, within limitations) I have yet to see someone actually "survive" with one. I wish someone would do that, so I could see what I'm getting wrong. I love the knife, but in snowy environments, I'd hate to stake my life on one.

  • What is the song name in the beginning of the video and at the end? I love your videos Nutnfancy! I look forward to more videos!

  • You guys ever try hammock camping?

  • Nutn should do an episode with Bear Grylls!!!

  • I heard that.

  • Nice video nice music thanks

  • Crocket should show Nutn the upside down fire!

  • As long as it took to hack through that log on the end. I think you are better off packing in a beaver.

  • @BradinOkinawa I think you are on to somethin! We need a beaver table top!!

  • In this sort of firemaking situation, would it be a benefit to actually make the platform out of green wood to slow the burn-through?

  • Nutn. Watching all of your backpacking series. They've inspired me to start backpacking. To get out there and see parts of this beautiful country I've been missing. Hats off to you sir. Keep doing what you do. We all enjoy it.

  • Ron Hood the Hoodlum forever!

  • I hope I never see Nutns wiggling toes again

  • Good God, Send me a Buck Hoodlum!!!

  • Nutnfancy the shot at the end of the vidoe shows a pair of black boots with gaitors. What kind of boots are they? They look nice.

  • @saberman12341 I believe their Merrell. They look like the ones he used in his series on Backpacking Boots.

  • I'm gonna grow a Crocket beard

  • Great video. hope to see that review on the tent.

  • chapstick? essential item? why would you need to lubricate your lips at night? something we should know about you and crocket? haha. good vid as usual

  • i need a hoodlum

  • wait it is spring?

hows that global warming doin Mr. Gore?

  • at my first FTX, it unexpectedly dropped down to 27F, it had rained hard earlier that day and we were in tall grass. woke up covered in crunching frost, but I was as cozy as in my bed with the Army 4pc modular sleeping bag system and bivy.

  • i use a gore tex bivac and its wet too ... greez from east germany

  • nutn id come along any day of the week; you call my boss and tell him to let me off and i'll be there lol.

  • That light looks like it has too much of a green tint. Unless you were still in Night mode.

  • WOW! what place.

  • White man- Big fire, sitting far away cold

Indian man- Small fire sitting close warm

    Old saying I've heard :-)

  • Comment removed

  • Last couple of days my computer has not been working. But my friend asked me "have you seen the new Nutnfancy Moonscape video yet?" I said I couldn't, but eventually I found myself watching the video in the public library, and you bet that I sat there the whole time. Good thing no one heard Crocket and his notorious "Wet Farts" in the library!

  • Thats a big log. Thats what my wife tells me.

    Work it lol

  • What kind of camcorder are you using?

  • i noticed you got some wd40 on the micarta their nut'n, does it clean off ok.

  • Woohoo part 3!!!

  • Lash the four pieces of the log together and slide your tinder down the cross. the fire will be raised from the floor and there is a platform to place pots on. I've tried this personally and it works well. great video as usual and everyone camps in a different way which is awesome. And everyone can learn from everyone else.

  • This makes me want to get back outdoors. Can't wait to see the spear out of the hoodlum.

  • Thank you for sharing Nut'n! :)

  • Great video guys. Thanks.

  • Ah man, shame you gave up with the tradition firelighting techniques, it's a real buzz when you get it. You should try and include that in future vids, that'd be awesome.

As you guys were saying about the chopping technique Crocket was using, if you hold right at the base you won't keep slipping onto your pinky and you will get more swing = more power too.

To be honest I missed Allie in this vid. Glad to see that she's healing though and look forward to seeing her in future adventure vids!

  • I know wherever Ron Hood's spirit is he was smiling when you split through that huge log with that Buck Hoodlum. Nice video.

  • Whats the WD40 for?

  • @lafayette512 Lube for the sawvivor and knife, to make cutting tasks easer. It does work I've tried it. I would never have thought of that. But that is one reason why I watch these videos.

  • @lafayette512 spray it on your saw for a smoother sawing action

  • btw, watching you make shavings with a knife set me to wondering if anyone has made/used a lightweight plane/spokeshave or something similar that would excel at producing long, paper thin wood shavings for fire making. Sort of like a cheese slicer or potato peeler for wood . . . or, just the blade part of a Surform plane - very light, very tough.

  • Captain cave man!!! Unga bunga!!! The hudlum blade is sweet... That's my next purchase for sure... Just one question, what's with the notches on the spine of the blade? Great spot you have there Nutn.. Sweet vid too.

  • Awesome video. I can never stop watchimg once i get into one of your adventure videos

  • great buddy/outdoor vid, the mountains, snow and trees are just spectacular. Cr0cket looks like he's about ready to keel over from exhaustion while at the campfire, lol. Nutn is a force of nature, lol. Hoodlum looks great.

  • I still can't figure societies love with summer. Might just be the teachers are out of school for the season and teach us that. This is warm enough for me. Don't need these 100 degree days, like today, when people die. The faculty don't have all their faculties sometimes. We can end that by simply stop paying them taxes for a 3 month summer vacation. Less they can find another job with a 3 month guaranteed summer vacation with full pay, starting the first year of union, friends.

  • What is the intro song called? It's great. Thanks for the hard work you and the TMP crew put in to making high quality vids.

  • Awesome video!

  • Long awaited part 3, never disappoint! Thanks again. Great tent and knife comparison. Can't wait for part IV .

  • Finally part 3 :)

  • It was great see the 2 tent systems. great video!

  • Woohoo PART 3!!

  • cool "crocket"...didnt know you were bald till now..:)..welcome to the club..haha.

  • Man.... great video #3

I would love to go hiking with you guys... I'm not sure my fire making skills are up to snuff.. and I'm still getting the money together to complete my systems. I'll get there someday..

Thanks for sharing yet another awesome wilderness adventure. =D

Seeing this on my screen made me happy.

I am heading out this weekend for some camping of my own.

    Stay safe out there. =D

  • AS Always really very nice video and a detailed overview of backpacking systems....

  • great wilderness duo, back in action

  • Aaaawesome!

  • +1 for fart humor!

  • I'd love to strap some back country skis on and go on a hike like that. This distance you can cover compared to walking is amazing.
