@thenzer14 my ass he's better than lomu , caucau was special but lomu was a freak of nature in a league of his own.just unlucky that a disease ended his career before he got to climax
I remember watching all these games when he was playing for the Blues. He was amazing. I watch a lot of football/soccer too. If Diego Maradonna was a rugby player, he would be Rupeni. the stocky master who could do anything he wanted to. When these guys want to play, no one can stop them.
His coordination is the best ive ever seen, side step is perfect off both feet too and he also has a good goose step. Pace and acceleration was unbelievable. Decpetively strong too, when he took the straight route he would go through players. i just wish his work ethic was better. he was a natural to rugby but struggled with the professional life style training, dieting no drinking rules etc.
Easily a better wing than Lomu, as Rupeni was relatively good on defense too. His vision is 2nd none.
I love Caucau and the people who have criticised him for weight gain etc wish they were 1 tenth as brilliant as he is. Rupeni and Lomu would be my wingers in an all time dream team - the best ever by a country mile. I was lucky enough to be at that Blues v Brumbies game and never seen anything like that before. The All Blacks did try to get him but he wasn't eligible - he would have been unstoppable.
@Moko8298 bro he wanted to play for the all blacks him self, true pride of legend status of pacific rugby.. this is the home nation of rugby in terms of dominance in the game. Yea there ain't that many islanders playing for the all blacks bro.. there mostly white boys or maoris now. he's an ultamate player rupeni but i think lomu will always be the most ultimate.
@MrSeaneym thank god he didn't qualify for the all blacks, he is lazy, didn't like training and liked to do his own thing, that is proven where he is now he is so fat he has to play in the forwards.
to all of you who are saying that he wasted his talent, let me remind you that rups didn't like to train that much, he's a hard head, never listens but only listens to his father, he could have gotten an all black jersey if he wanted one. Ilivasi Tabua did that for the wallabies and then for fiji, bottom line, rups is playing tha game that he loves, getting good money, and traveling the world...if he was wasting his talent he would be farming in his village in Bua, northen fiji.
....back in the 60s, 70s, Fijian rugby league players used to light the NW league grounds with their power-running and display of try-scoring exploits; absolutely magical and a full-house was always guaranteed whenever they were in town.
@Raikaboomboom bratha him playing @ tailevu was awhile ago. Try watching some updated news from the french union. His actually rocking himself out for his club and actually scored 2 tries against Nalaga's old club Clermont winning the game and moving to the finals for Top 14 french comp!2011 Top 14 ! His doing awesome at the moment!!! Go Rubs!!
NZRFU made inquires to get him for the All Blacks but unfortunately he had already been playing for Fiji as a full international which under IRB laws totally ruled him out for NZ. Wasted talent though
haha, if i was one of those players who failed i would just say to my coach 'hey look, i was lagging a lot and he haxed, there was nothing i could do!'
I still say he was the best winger I've ever seen. Hell, he was one of the best ATHLETES I ever saw. pace, power, explosion; he had it all. If he had discipline he'd have been on his own level. sometimes I marvel at the physical ability of the fijians
FUKEN WASTED TALENT!!!!!!......how good was this guy..now look at him playing for tailevu back in fiji!!!!fat sob...could of taken his country a long way in 2007...he could of even been the difference in beating south africa
arguably the best winger of the decade, talent put to waste, he was a standard above other wingers, had all the attributes size speed agility strength, what more could you ask for very well rounded winger~
Man! I had forgotten just how incredible this bloke was. Pity the AB's couldn't pick him up....heh, that'll get the poms going. Only Cullen had that same sort of mixture of balance and speed.
I always thought Afato So'oialo was brilliant too.
He was the fastest at his prime which was when Doug Howlette, Joe Rokocoko, Jason Robinson,Sitiveni Sivivatu and Bryan Habana were all still in their prime as well.. I miss the good old days.
Man! he just gases tony koonwaiyou (crusaders wing and nz age group representative) like nothing, and bare in mind koonwaiyou was the 100m and 200m nz secondary schools champion while he was at kings college in auckland, just goes to show that rupeni has pure natural speed
Caucau is working very hard with all the Toulouse fitness team around him. He lost 7 kilos in a month and train a lot. I am sure he is in great conditions to come at his best and make us dream again. I watched some games on TV just to see that bastard!!!
@MarksmanKiddo ..must agree wif u bro...."if only"....then they wud be destructive...but scratch Bobo's name....I think Nagusa or Dels shoul be on number 14.

Surely one of the most naturally talented wingers ever to play the game? Pure freakish ability, but the most lazy SOB on god's green earth =] I watched Rupeni get a clean break against Waikato one day in Whangarei...the try line was beckoning and the Mooloo lock ran him down and tackled him...haha...too much boil up??
@hamu09 Yeah that was HILARIOUS! He did have a big 'off season' though and came back so unfit and fat but by the end of the NPC season he was fucken brilliant. It is a shame he couldn't play for the ABs and I only say that because the world needed to see him at international level more frequently and better for us than them! I believe he is the best ever winger and that is taking into consideration only playing a handfull of tests and being unfilt a lot.
One word comes to mind... FREAK!!! That guy was unbelievable, I was lucky enough to watch him in a Blues warm-up game, his marker, Wendell Sailor, absolutely taught him a rugby union lesson!
The theoretical love child of Jonah Lomu and Christian Cullen. Pace aplenty, but the body movements and stepping is awesome. Lovely balance too. As good as our current All Blacks are, especially in our wings, this guy has a better balance/speed/power/hands/step/run and kick game overall than anyone now. Perfect size
@oliverburke ...cnt believe hes been axed by his club Agen...after wat he has done to the club....i hope he comes back and play against them n score 4-5 tries...
I hope he plays in the 2011 rugby world cup, and plays like he used to in this clip!! rugby right now is full of players who are there because of lack of competition
@SuperNictastic i take it from your comment you're from the UK? everytime someone in the southern hemisphere scores a great try haters from the UK say this. the guy was just great at evading tackles especially the way he could swerve side to side in an instant
@TheTotalRugby pal, need to seriously *fuck up*.he was plucked from some fijian jungle and thrown straight into the worst team (Northland) in the NZ NPC( the worlds premier domestic rugby comp, Along with Currie Cup).where he dominated.from there he was picked to play in*possibly* the worlds best team for the last decade *Auckland Blues* and outshone ALL the players in that side..players like Carlos Spencer,Mils Muliana,Rico Gear,Doug Howlett etc.THEN he killed FRA and SCO at the 03 WC!
@BenKHouch whilst playing for fiji or Northland he had NO ONE to make him look good...he did it all by himself. And whilst playing in NZ he outshone EVERY player in the S14...he was the *PLAYER OF THE YEAR* in the S14...and was *arguably* the player of the 2003 RWC, and fiji didnt even get out of the group stages...lol...WHAT U THINK cause Johnny Wilkinson kicked a few goals and did a drop kick he was the best player @ the 03 WC?.... brainless fuck
@BenKHouch And that makes him legendary? A good season for the blues and some good tries in the world cup? Doug Howlett has 49 international tries and is the leading S14 top try scorer, THATS legendary.
@TheTotalRugby He didn't stopped playing rugby after leaving the southern hemisphere ! He had been top try scorer in France with Agen, stayed with the club when they went down to 2nd division (Pro D2), and became top try scorer in pro D2 (scoring 4 tries in the last game) this year, sending Agen back in top 14. I wouldn't say he's legendary, but at least he's a great player, and got that special something that could make him legendary.
@R00m5 thats the thing with the NH...by the time they BUY SH players they have already peaked and are on a downward slide. I cant think of many SH players who play a better brand of football whilst in the NH than they did prior in the SH.
@R00m5 whats impressive in this package here also is his tries...each try he beats 2-5 guys, which is impressive itself. but look at the PLAYERS hes beating with ease. Former All Blacks, slicing through backlines like the Crusaders who are probably the worlds premier Rugby Club of the last 15years. I wish this package showed tries of his where he played for Northland @NPC level. He wanted to play for NZ but was inelligible. imagine if he played for NZ, thats all i can say
@TheTotalRugby u compare Howlett and Rupeni...omg. Ask ANY kiwi who was in NZ between 2000-2005 who was the better player and ud get less than 1% say Howlett. U think Howlett was good but he was even lucky to be in the starting lineup MOST matches he played in his career in NZ AND the Blues...ask ANY kiwi that! Howlett got most of his runs via stupid coaching rotation and coaching favouritism. No way was he better than Jonah,Goldie,Rococoko or Rico Gear..all the other Wings he was up against
@TheTotalRugby and please pal..#s dont mean much to me..next ull be saying Shane Williams is legendary cause hes the 3rd best tryscorer!...get real. Its a FACT the the worlds best backs have come from the Southern Hemisphere. And this guy Rupeni came and DOMINATED all teams from SA/NZ and AU for a couple of S14 seasons and a few domestic NPC seasons. and then showed his individual flair at the 03 WC. from that point he showed GLIMPSES of his SH form. I look at him now and think *Wasted Talent*
@TheTotalRugby yep, I wouldnt bother if i were u too....u obviously didnt see him play live when he was in his prime...I saw him loads of times. I lived in Auckland for 25years. Auckland has had some of the best players EVER in the history of rugby: Sean Fitzpatrick,Zinzan Brooke,Carlos Spencer,Michael Jones, etc. Rupeni was in that league, he was a freak
@hanros98 omg..Rupeni has done it again...AWOL from his french club...hes a headcase...before it was ok cause he would turn up and score 10tries in 5 games...but now hes built and runs like a jelly donut
@BenKHouch theres no need to call him a coon especially seeing as you're a rupeni fan. you don't know the reasons why he chose not to play for fiji or club.
@siwooot I am a big fan...but he recently remade the fijian team...then he starts playing his club for idiots!...he didnt turn up for training or his club in france!...NO OTHER PLAYER IN HISTORY DOES THIS
@BenKHouch caucau got injured thats why he didn't play for fiji, and he's not the only one. most island players don't play for their home countries because they play club rugby in europe where they earn decent money, also europe has the longest toughest season in club rugby, so after having such a long season travelling half way around the world to play for fiji, samoa or tonga to earn shit money on the one short period you get a break from europe club rugby doesn't make sense.
people would argue that poor tackling allows this guy to score so many tries, but the truth is he is simply fantastically strong in breaking tackles - he walks through people - good players - as thought they weren't there. The strength in his legs is incredible! And what a fucking siiiiiiiiiiiide-step!
people would argue that poor tackling allows this guy to score so many tries, but the truth is he is simply fantastically strong in breaking tackles - he walks through people - good players - as thought they weren't there. The strength in his legs is incredible!
Dude this is a legend of speed, this guy would have been Jonahs equal in status, hes made rugby's best wingers and fullbacks look like turtles in a rabbit race, definitely what you call the best.
Uate from the Newcastle Knights should watch this guy he could learn something, and someone tell Andrew Johns to stop talking league players up,they ain't nothing compared to Union players
@BenKHouch true bro but no one can catch him at the weight he is now and that extra weight may help him bust through but yeah he is about 110 kilos haha
Is it just me or does he just look so effortless when he runs? He just has these massive bounding legs and can hit the gas, move and shift a defender, run good lines, or if need be just barge straight ahead
Caucau is THE best winger I've ever seen!! Dayyum is he ever fast, like SHIT! I wanna be able to play rugby as good as he does! I play winger on my rugby team and I just wanna own like him...
"F@#k you i wont do what you tell me"... How fitting are those words for this guy. Still remember that Northland vs Auckland game, Northland with a bunch of no names against auckland star studed team. Single handedly tore auckland apart. Mad skillz.
What a player, shame it seemed liked he couldn`t be bothered with rugby, if he would have been 100% commited I think he would have been an all time great and probably been one of the highest paid players about, the tries he scored against scotland in the RWC were some of the best I have seen, ran past people like they were stuck in mud.
@sph34 i think so to i talk to some fijian dudes and they say the same thing that he didnt really give a shit for rugby after a while because of how he kicked ass all the time he stopped training as hard, but yea i think he would have been one of the highest paid players up in the millions even
Amazing. At his best he would routinely make the best backline players look silly by running around them. Who else could just glide past Joe Roff, Aron Mauger etc? And seriously, 3:44 - WTF? How does that work?
Rupeni did get a lot of game time at the blues....bearing in mind they had such an awesome squad...with the likes of Rocokoko and Howlett as well... The won that Super 14 comp with ease that year... With King Carlos at his prime also...
Fuck..he's fast!!!

siwooot 1 year ago
He was great in that super 12 wining Blues side had such a big influence in their attack, the reason they won it, him and Carlos.
nzkiwinzkid 1 year ago
shame he got such a mad attitude he could have been the best player ever
hanros98 1 year ago
Blues were unstoppable back then thats why they won ... Rupeni, Rockocoko, Howlett, Carlos Spencer all in their prime..
kiNqSouNdz 1 year ago
@kiNqSouNdz they were so good they had guys like Rico Gear on the bench...

WTF.. this guy is the smaller version of lomu, except that he doesnt crash into ppl, he just steps them like they werent there!
ShaNz194 1 year ago
How the hell can anyone call this guy legendary?
Hes got what? 8 caps? 9 tries? acheieved nothing at club or country level
Without a doubt THE most ridicoulously overrated player of all time
TheTotalRugby 1 year ago
@TheTotalRugby pal, need to seriously *fuck up*.he was plucked from some fijian jungle and thrown straight into the worst team (Northland) in the NZ NPC( the worlds premier domestic rugby comp, Along with Currie Cup).where he dominated.from there he was picked to play in*possibly* the worlds best team for the last decade *Auckland Blues* and outshone ALL the players in that side..players like Carlos Spencer,Mils Muliana,Rico Gear,Doug Howlett etc.THEN he killed FRA and SCO at the 03 WC!
BenKHouch 1 year ago
@BenKHouch whilst playing for fiji or Northland he had NO ONE to make him look good...he did it all by himself. And whilst playing in NZ he outshone EVERY player in the S14...he was the *PLAYER OF THE YEAR* in the S14...and was *arguably* the player of the 2003 RWC, and fiji didnt even get out of the group stages...lol...WHAT U THINK cause Johnny Wilkinson kicked a few goals and did a drop kick he was the best player @ the 03 WC?.... brainless fuck
BenKHouch 1 year ago
@BenKHouch And that makes him legendary? A good season for the blues and some good tries in the world cup? Doug Howlett has 49 international tries and is the leading S14 top try scorer, THATS legendary.
TheTotalRugby 1 year ago
@TheTotalRugby He didn't stopped playing rugby after leaving the southern hemisphere ! He had been top try scorer in France with Agen, stayed with the club when they went down to 2nd division (Pro D2), and became top try scorer in pro D2 (scoring 4 tries in the last game) this year, sending Agen back in top 14. I wouldn't say he's legendary, but at least he's a great player, and got that special something that could make him legendary.
R00m5 1 year ago
@R00m5 thats the thing with the NH...by the time they BUY SH players they have already peaked and are on a downward slide. I cant think of many SH players who play a better brand of football whilst in the NH than they did prior in the SH.
BenKHouch 1 year ago
@R00m5 whats impressive in this package here also is his tries...each try he beats 2-5 guys, which is impressive itself. but look at the PLAYERS hes beating with ease. Former All Blacks, slicing through backlines like the Crusaders who are probably the worlds premier Rugby Club of the last 15years. I wish this package showed tries of his where he played for Northland @NPC level. He wanted to play for NZ but was inelligible. imagine if he played for NZ, thats all i can say
BenKHouch 1 year ago
@BenKHouch yeah, I agree with you... NZ would be almost unstoppable. (Fuck, they already are ^^)
R00m5 1 year ago
@TheTotalRugby u compare Howlett and Rupeni...omg. Ask ANY kiwi who was in NZ between 2000-2005 who was the better player and ud get less than 1% say Howlett. U think Howlett was good but he was even lucky to be in the starting lineup MOST matches he played in his career in NZ AND the Blues...ask ANY kiwi that! Howlett got most of his runs via stupid coaching rotation and coaching favouritism. No way was he better than Jonah,Goldie,Rococoko or Rico Gear..all the other Wings he was up against
BenKHouch 1 year ago
@TheTotalRugby and please pal..#s dont mean much to me..next ull be saying Shane Williams is legendary cause hes the 3rd best tryscorer!...get real. Its a FACT the the worlds best backs have come from the Southern Hemisphere. And this guy Rupeni came and DOMINATED all teams from SA/NZ and AU for a couple of S14 seasons and a few domestic NPC seasons. and then showed his individual flair at the 03 WC. from that point he showed GLIMPSES of his SH form. I look at him now and think *Wasted Talent*
BenKHouch 1 year ago
@BenKHouch We have VERY different opinions on rugby so im not even gonna bother.
TheTotalRugby 1 year ago
@TheTotalRugby yep, I wouldnt bother if i were u too....u obviously didnt see him play live when he was in his prime...I saw him loads of times. I lived in Auckland for 25years. Auckland has had some of the best players EVER in the history of rugby: Sean Fitzpatrick,Zinzan Brooke,Carlos Spencer,Michael Jones, etc. Rupeni was in that league, he was a freak
BenKHouch 1 year ago
@BenKHouch He scored a pretty good try against France, but didn't actually "killed" us as we won 61-18 ^^

@siwooot wtf u talking about..the dumb coon hasnt turned up for training again!
BenKHouch 1 year ago
@BenKHouch theres no need to call him a coon especially seeing as you're a rupeni fan. you don't know the reasons why he chose not to play for fiji or club.
siwooot 1 year ago
@siwooot I am a big fan...but he recently remade the fijian team...then he starts playing his club for idiots!...he didnt turn up for training or his club in france!...NO OTHER PLAYER IN HISTORY DOES THIS
BenKHouch 1 year ago

Mad skillz.

What a player, shame it seemed liked he couldn`t be bothered with rugby, if he would have been 100% commited I think he would have been an all time great and probably been one of the highest paid players about, the tries he scored against scotland in the RWC were some of the best I have seen, ran past people like they were stuck in mud.
sph34 1 year ago
@sph34 i think so to i talk to some fijian dudes and they say the same thing that he didnt really give a shit for rugby after a while because of how he kicked ass all the time he stopped training as hard, but yea i think he would have been one of the highest paid players up in the millions even

Some guys can fend and run right over people like they're nothing, but caucau makes it look as if it's so illogical.
fitzyuc 1 year ago
Amazing. At his best he would routinely make the best backline players look silly by running around them. Who else could just glide past Joe Roff, Aron Mauger etc? And seriously, 3:44 - WTF? How does that work?
