  • Seems the Panasonic FZ150 and the Canon SX40HS are neck and neck as the two best of their class. I was debating between the two for weeks, read a ton of reviews, watched lots of videos about the two and from the two, and settled on the Canon which I'm very happy with! Even the photos look almost as good as those from my Canon XTi DSLR- maybe 'as' good!

  • Excellent overview. I'm sold with the Lumix over the Canon for a new ultra zoom, though it was close. I'm just getting too old to lug around my 5D2 - though it will still be used. Cheers.

  • I enjoyed your review Jon, but you never mentioned the noise on ISO settings. I'm still using an old FZ50 which has noise above 200 ISO. Is there a noticeable reduction in noise on the new FZ150 ? please tell.

  • what a dumb@SS, I just traded my fz150 to a canon sx40hs, worst decision I ever made...., I mean the image quality is good but the sx40 just is so much better especially in low light and its 35x zoom is just amazing, even my sister's hx9v sony which she recently sold was better than this camera. I'm glad I got the sx40hs and I don't believe you when you said you were a canon user for 8 years and yet you chose this over the sx40hs which is dubbed as the best superzoom camera as of today.

  • @qxrd - It seemed like the better camera on paper, and I still prefer some of it's featured... but you're right about the low-light on the FZ150... I might switch back still, not sure.

  • @qxrd - But hey dude, thanks for calling me a dumbass -- considering you bought the camera too, seems like an incredibly douchey thing to say.

  • @Jon sorry about the dumb@ss thing lol just had to say it considering I had first hand experience with this thing and I regret buying and didn't want you brainwashing people here into buying this camera where you say this is better than the canon sx40hs, you can do your cam reviews but please don't downgrade canon's sx40hs with this camera... just saying

  • @qxrd - Fair enough. I thought my review was pretty balanced though?

  • @qxrd

Check imaging-resource comparison to make sure what a bulls@it you tell here:) FZ150 easily outperforms SX40HS in still image quality, not mentioning AVCHD where Canon doesn't exist...

  • I have a previous model in the same series bought in summer 09. almost the same but no 3d, no flip out screen, no photos during video. £340. It's excellent.

  • hey jon thanks for the vid. i just wanted to know if these pictures are straight from the memory card? or have they been tweaked later?

  • This sounds like a cool, reliable, professional-grade camera! I'm thinking of getting one for my movie/TV review show once I get a job. Thanks for doing such a great review of Panasonic DMC-FZ150!

Btw, Panasonic, can we have our plug money now? Lol.

  • hello jon! may i ask what class of sd card is best for this camera and isnt this 1080p 60fps? im planning to buy this camera for christmas using it for both pics and videos. thanks!

  • @megatedxzx Anything over 2gb and if you want fast burst shooting and smooth video, make sure its a class 10 sd card.

  • John ur the man!..i was really into getting a powershot sx30 or 40 but recently came across this one and was trying to compare the two. I didnt even know this camera could take a still photo right in the middle of audio. Even though the zoom isnt as great as the pwershots being able to take 60 pics a sec is empressive. Not to mention Full 1080p recoreding and a super slow motion feature. I think Xmas will come alittle early for me .I am know a loyal subcriber..thanx again for the awesome review

  • Nice cat

  • only 9mp?

  • @SrryIThoughtUWasCorn - At 16:9 resolution, which for a fixed-lens is top of the line.

  • @SrryIThoughtUWasCorn And wow, mine is 18 MP... Go figure, and mine cost $120

  • a canon destroyed by a cannon, hmm....

  • The test video looks a bit orange. But it might just be that the white balance is a little off.

  • Jon you know canon cameras can take images at the same time PS: Congratz for having a new camera :)

  • @CTSCarToons - Except, they can't -- the images pauses the video, and more importantly - the audio.

Which is why I stressed "UNINTERRUPTED images"

  • @Jon yes it do but still i like the canon powershot sx40 hs but your camera looks very nice

  • 9,999 views XD 8)

  • Good review. Nice to see occasionally something else than just running through the same specs, as the others.

  • your cat has huge fucking eyes

  • but will it blend?

  • I have a powershot sx40

  • Did you buy the camera at a online store that specializes in cameras, like B&H, or an online store that sells everything, like Amazon?

  • ...high speed slow motion?

  • @mattardis - Yes, that's what I said.

  • @Jon How is slow-motion also high speed? Is it some technical term for "really good"?

  • @TheGreatKidBlue - Google it.

  • @Jon wouldn't that just be... normal speed?

  • @mattardis no, it records at high speed so that you can make slow motion videos like Taofledermaus

  • @mattardis - Nope.

  • @mattardis why dont you google it?!

  • @mattardis It means that it records at 220 frames per second instead of the normal 30 frames per second. This allows it to play back the video really slow really smoothly. This eliminates a slow fps and frame rate if you slow down a normal video. you'll notice that if you slow down a normal video, it will be jittery and not smooth, but if you slow down a highspeed video, it will look very smooth as if you haven't slowed it down at all, even though it is slowed down significantley.

  • 2:55 FALSE!! - all my Canon DSLR and non DSLR cameras do have the option to plug in an external mic. Hey Jon, if you're looking for a good ext. mic, I might recommend the Zoom H2 or the H4n. I have both and they work great. Get a ballhead shoe mount so you can attach it to that crappy Panny hybrid you just got. Just messin' w/ ya--enjoy your new cam ;)

  • @joejumps4fun Jon is referring the the Powershot SX20/30/40 series though, which is what he does use to vlog.

  • @FirefoxFreeze No, he said, "something that Canon cameras don't have". That pretty much means "all" Canon cameras. I know what you're saying, but this statement is still false. Jon is a really tech-saavy dude. I'm just a little disappointed he's using cheap cameras for his high-quality content.

  • @joejumps4fun If hee did mean all Canon cameras, than yeah, he's wrong. I think the T3i has it?

  • @FirefoxFreeze Yeah, it does. I have the T2i and it has one as well as my Canon HV40. Part of the reason I switched over from Sony to Canon is due to that reason. It's stupid to have to buy brand-specific devices; Sony makes all their camera and mic accessories brand-complient--ie: you can't use a 3rd party mic--it has to be Sony. But I'm not sure if they do that still...

  • @Jon actually the camera has a smaller sensor than a dslr and doesn't have a mirror

  • You have a lot to say about this camera and why not, it looks the goods! :-))

  • Comment removed

  • I fucking need that camera

  • Looks like it was well worth it from the samples you provided.

  • Fantastic! Manual focus on a 'point and shoot' is rather interesting, something I'd surely use for video :)

  • I know you said you wouldn't, but after you use it for a while, COULD you review it? There are literally 2 reviews of this on YouTube and I actually may get this. It's just so new...

  • Jon! Talk about the Sesame Street hack!

  • Oooooo,,,nice quality

  • I can't stand digital zoom. That's why I have my DSLR, with nothing but optical zoom. BUT, it doesn't do video. At all.

  • @Staytec How does it NOT do video!! D:

  • @FirefoxFreeze Sony A230. Cheapest DSLR they sold at $369. Doesn't do video. Not complaining.

  • This camera costs almost twice as much in the UK. Fantastic.

  • How long till you break this one?

  • this or 600d?

  • THOSE BALLOONS ARE FROM DOLLAR TREE

  • I want it :( @Jon , I wrote an article about this in a german Magazine and trust me, it´s one of the best I´ve worked with.

  • who gives a fuck about your new camera!?

  • @stargatefreak666 - HERP DERP...

    My audience, you shithead.

  • @Jon well.. i was your audience, before you uploaded this shit... shithead!

  • @Jon i liked it cuz i have the same one high five

  • @stargatefreak666 my caues your fake and gay

  • @stargatefreak666 Reminds me of the guys in school that throw random shit at the nerdy kid to get a reaction out of him.

  • @stargatefreak666 mothafucka just got told bitch

  • nice camera --- Sent From jpizzle1122's AppRats (Facebook App)!

  • to long didnt wtach, is the camera good or not

  • @Wazza532 Its worth watching. Amazing camera from the looks of it.

  • @Wazza532 Watch the video.

    If THAT'S tl;dr, yes

  • 0:24

Looks like Kill cam on Black Ops!!

  • Why does this video convince me to get a canon if I ever buy a professional camera...

  • wow i wish i had a camera like that, i already take amazing pictures, imagine with that Panasonic one. But i luv Sony more lol

@Jon, check out my channel to see the pictures i take, would really appreciate it.

  • This was entireley too nerdy for me!!

  • And I thought my SONY Webbie MHS-CM1 was a great camera....

  • hey jon, I was just wondering, what do you think of Sony cameras?

    *Braces himself for response*

  • you have such a awesome cat

  • Congratulations on your new camera!

  • Wooo! Wedding balloons!!!

  • What camera are you using for this vlog

  • @wikkedlizzerd Panasonic HMC-150

  • Should of got a gh2 jon.

  • Cool, Jon, right on! I look forward to seeing your new vlogs filmed with it! "Liked"!

  • get out! I just ordered a dmc-fz100 yesterday!!

  • GREAT NEWS! JON HAS A NEW CAMERA! SPREAD THE WORD!

    no, im not being sarcastic.

  • Jon, do you know anything about the Cannon EOS Elan camera? I think it's about 15/20 years old? Not saying you're old or anything, but since you've been using them before this one.. :D

  • Jon! where is part 7 of super mario world!!!!!!

  • Ironic how your CANNON camera died by a blood CANNON.

  • watching this in 1080p cause finally i can! im as giddy as a school girl.

  • Is it a good idea to microwave your old busted camera?

  • @Logan5312 ...while it's recording whilst streaming directly to a laptop?

They should do a "reunion" episode once a year (might as well), and that would be awesome.

  • I hate to be that guy that points this out, but did anyone else notice some de-synch towards the end of the video? =/

  • Damn, I gotta get me one of these. I do wish there was more of a market for film cameras, though. Film is so much more fun and it's superior to digital.

  • Pretty cool

  • Some great depth of field on some of them pics

  • I wish I knew stuff about cameras. :( Always wanted to do youtube videos, got a camera like 6 years ago but it was still on the mini cassettes which I'm not a fan of, I would much prefer all digital. Also, I don't know what ever made me believe that my computer at the time was at all capable of uploading and then editing a movie whilst not destroying the already poor picture quality.

  • Is it me or is the video quality at 1:14 really bad?

  • Are you using it for RRC season 4?

  • You have a very cute cat :D :D

  • Quite the interesting camera, it will be interesting to see how it fairs in your video's and maybe ill retire my canon powershot for one

  • KITTEH!!!

  • Do you think Sony is a good video cam? I'm planning to replace my very old Sony MiniDV handy cam and replace it with another newer Sony camera. Any suggestions?

  • @robert0joe Sony is amazing in the camcorder industry. Only bad thing: many record in AVCHD format, tricky to edit.

  • @FirefoxFreeze 'tricky to edit' is not a thing for Jon - he has a Windows 7 computer beast sitting below his desk... so AVCHD is just fine :)

  • @daanbrg That's for HIM. Not everyone has such a beast computer like his.

  • Frame save sounds like a nice feature, I may be in the market for a D-SLR camera soon. You should review a few other cameras! :)

  • im not gonna get a Panasonic DMC-FZ150 bc it always get stoleing when not home. i went ture like 6 Panasonic DMC-FZ150 and someone always breaks in my house even tho i got a house alram. i give on buying it. their only got for geting stoleing.

  • I find it ironic that your Canon was destroyed by a Cannon.

  • @abc123unmegrrl - Hahah - it totally is.

  • How much does it cost??

  • unless it was the digital zoom making it worse but the photos look great.

  • Nice camera but I think I like the image quality from your cannon more because the colour seems to bright but then you might be able to change the settings.

  • best choice you could have made

  • I really enjoy your videos.

    Cheers from Melbourne, Australia.

  • This is a great choice, I think it is comparable to the SX~IS. :D

  • Win, lose, or draw, I'm looking forward to the next full video with your new camera

  • Nice camera jon! It looks awesome. Can't wait to see it in action.

  • i have an earlier version of Panasonic DMC

  • @th3bff Cool story bro.

  • wow the pictures this camera takes are amazing, helps that you have beautiful fall colours in the background! can't wait to see it in action

  • Wait, you need a certain size for an SLR? I am no engineer, but how is size a requirement for a camera to be an SLR?

  • @sofawall You need room for the slap happy mirror and motors that drive the lenses. The rest of the camera is large just so you don't get a ridiculously shaped body around it.

  • cute kitty :D

  • penis licker

  • That cat doesn't give a shit!

  • I use a Canon eos 60d. Kicks some ass.

  • i love ur reviews bro

  • In the little pop up at 0:59 you said "Movie Night, MICROWAVE SHOW, 3 Steps to Success and W.A.T.J. ARE recoreded on..." Does this mean that you are going back on doing more Microwave Show? Loved watching it!

  • @mattandsarahaschan - I mean exactly what I said when the show originally ended -- it isn't dead.

  • This is the camera I was going to get but I needed a 4.0 gpa and I got a 3.8, instead I got a canon vixia hfr100

  • I love how whenever you get a new camera, Bella and water scenes instantly become the focus of the demo vlog. :)

  • Nice features but you said no 1080 at 60 fps. Other than that. Sounds like a sweet camera!

  • @JRB0078 - I think it might actually shoot at 60fps... I just haven't figured out how yet, haha.

  • I just stepped up and bought my first "decent" camera (by my standards) for an upcoming vacation. Yours makes it look pretty bland though. It's a Fujifilm S1600.

  • The flip is the best..

  • Cat is cute :3

  • Great review Jon, good insight and professional opinion.

  • cute cat Jon

  • one word FINALLY

  • Would you recommend any Sony cams?

  • hey i like this camera but i want something that has all of those features but with interchangeable lenses.

Do you think the canon 7d would provide that? and does the canon 7d able to mount an external mic? or which canon has that flip around screen?

many questions ... i know i really need your advice. the flip cam review is the video that cause me to start watching you. you seem trust worthy.

  • What made you choose this guy over all the new mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras that have been coming out recently like the NEX, GF, and EP cameras? Was it mainly just the flippy tilty screen and zoom? I'd assume price as well, but seeing as this is a work related thing, it's probably not that big of a deal. (especially not after the 4k main camera and computer used to edit this all on)

  • it's crazy...some phone cameras have over 8mp+.

  • @fobfan1512 Who cares? Megapixels don't really have anything to do with quality. It's the Lens and Sensor in the camera that matter. Megapixels are how large the photo will be and nothing more.

  • @SpeckyNation What about when your phone shoots 720p video?

  • @SpeckyNation And I was just making a comment. I don't know anything about cameras. So I wasn't trying to sound smart.

  • Panasonic televisions will outlast the universe... I still have one from year 2000 that works like new. This unfortunately means I have no excuse to get a tv with more than twelve pixles.

  • Thank you for showing me this. This is a good DSLR type camera that films 1080p (even 60p!) and has a mic input. The cheapest one I found was a Canon T2i, and it's $800. I now am strongly considering getting this.

  • Impressive camera Jon!

  • Jon, in the blood cannon video that destroyed your camera, was it real blood that messed the mic in your old camera to stop working?

  • PRECIOUS CAT

  • Didn't Panasonic make some of the microwaves? :o

  • @Hellion6325 Bella

  • your cat is so cute! what's his/her name?

  • Get a t2i

  • @zodoize

    no Autofocus

  • 4:40

Yeah CT! The state I live in :D
