  • I had no interest in the later episodes where Sebastian disapeared--in this way the series lost its focus.

  • There must be some people who cruise youtube looking for things to dis-like... that's the only explanation I can think of.

  • oH i LOVED THIS MOVIE ::: AND jERMY ::::JEJEJEJE

  • love anthony andrews and he IS gorgeous!

  • Oh, for a sunny day in England.

  • Anthony Andrews is actually gorgeous!

  • 2 hotties....

  • Cordelia is so hilarious. "That BEAST Randall"

  • they are so sexy

  • Brideshead Revisited is one of my fav books... And I think that Jeremy and Matthew (Goode) are appropriate for the role of Charles.

  • oh my god 1:17 so beautiful!

  • Nice asses!

  • Jeremy Irons naked... well, that's made my morning ;)

  • Scar and the Scarlet Pimpernel. Excellent.

  • @tiemedown "They seek him here, they seek him there. Those Frenchies seek him everywhere..." Sink me!

  • @AuDioSLavE802 "The pimpernel is me!"

" Oh yes and I'm the queen of france"

  • @tiemedown LOL!! Love that movie:-)

  • @tiemedown isn't it Queen of Spain?

  • @musicgirl4ever1 Oh god. You are completely right, I hate when I ruin a good Broadway quote.

  • @tiemedown hehe I thought it was "oh yes and I'm the queen of spain" ^^

  • @wincipoet lol completely right, i should remove the comment but I find the mistake alittle bit funny

  • Seriously. wtf?

  • Is that a young Jeremy Irons?

  • They seem kind of... improbably hairless.

    Not that I'm complaining.

  • "...I'm sorry about your pig..."

  • I come from an Anglo-Catholic family, and everything that Sebastian says about the culture of upper class Anglo-Catholics is spot on.

  • were they sun bathing because I thought they just slept together

  • Good god, Anthony Andrews was beautiful.

  • Actually, i do think Matthew Goode compares favourably to Jeremy Irons...

And, Ben Whipshaw to Anthony Andrews.

... The "Original" Anthony Blanche is incontestable.

  • If you've ever been ushered into a higher strata of society, having not grown up in it, you can in some way identify with Charles. Of course, the story is about so much more just that, but it does capture the emotions of that sort of experience. My only fault with the novel is that it went beyond just conveying "the sense of" to standing "in defense of" the elitism into which Charles was being baptized. The novel lacks a certain Flaubertian objectivity that could have made it perfect.

  • butt shot!! :D Anthony Andrews is amazing as always.

  • I love Cordelia and her pig Francis Xavier!

  • It took me a minute and then I recognised the actor. She was in Maurice and played Anne Durham.

  • Anthony Andrews is the only Sebastian!

A wonderful straight actor who played a gay boy so well! He is not conventionally handsome!

He is one of my favorite English actor of ever!

    Jeremy is charming, too!

  • @topolino29 i really like your comment :)

  • @needtorock thank you! cheers :)

  • @topolino29 Yeah, I agree with ya.

  • @topolino29 Amen!

  • haha dude. i've watched the new one but this is freakin hilarious, isn't that Ivenhoe? and the other dude, i've totally seen him as an evil priest or something somewhere...

  • lol i think u might be talking about Jeremy Irons in Eragon

  • @DrottningHel I believe you refer to The Black Robe.

  • Good God, look how young Jeremy Irons looks. He's so adorable! XD

  • Sebastian is so sexy

  • Are you taking the piss?

  • was once for me, perhaps still is, a different world to runaway and live in.....

  • When my dad watched this on television he was 16 years old, like me. I bought "Brideshead Revisited" on DVD one week ago and yesterday we watched the final episode. I really love it and so does my dad. =)

  • LOL Cordelia.

  • looks like two men to me

  • Why does there have to be a man. They're both men

  • @jw5255 Comments such as which is the man? comes from the idea of top/bottom, with the bottom being placed in a womanly role, as it is- to be penetrated is a womanly thing that why that question exist and it shows what I said in a comment here..pseudo women.

  • Sebastion is gay,Charles is not.Charles exhibits the homosexuality of the upper classes.Males on the cusp of sexuality, bodies flush with hormones, are kept in almost female-free enviroments.Sent to all-male boarding schools male figures are all that is there.I suggest seeing Lindsay Anderson`s "IF" for the exposition of this theme.

  • thanks for that. I have a theory similar to yours regarding the male environment in Wall Street.

  • @selfidentity1 Interesting. You suggest Wall St. can be viewed as an English Boarding School.I am unfamiliar with Wall St. interpersonal dynamics. You are suggesting people engage in homosexuality as a way to get ahead in business.A novel interpretation.

  • I believe that male dominated environments are the result of repressed homosexuality. all men have an homosexual inside that manifests itself in several ways. Its not normal not wanting to be around women. Machism is also a manifestation. that does not happen in women though. women seek mixed environments and dont get along if they are all together.

  • @selfidentity1 You wander far from the show. You have ignored feminine homosexuality,as if it didn`t exist.I think male dominated societes aren`t the result of repression, but do foster gay relationships of Sebastian and Charles type. There seems a blind spot on y-tube about the physical sexuality of these two young lovers,as if this somehow taints the relationship.

  • @holmsatlarge If male homosexuality back then for the most part was anything like it is today, then you are speaking of feminine homosexuality, lol Dont get me wrong I myself am homosexual, but I'm far from being gay...I detest gay. Gay is an objectification of each other, gay is psuedo women poncing around refering to their backsides as vaginas and using them in the same light. Gay is a thing of domination and subjugation. I'm homosexual, not female caricature-gay.

  • @dstewart28 I was unaware of this interpretation of gay. Thanks for the enlightenment.

  • @holmsatlarge It's not a working definition that you'll find in dictionary/textbook, but it is a definition based on observation, commonsense and logic. If you have top/bottom paradigm and a referal to the anus as a p***y and the use of it as such and even the lisping and swishing around it=all what I said especially the pseudo woman thing.

  • @holmsatlarge That's why alot ofguys who identify as straight have a problem with any kind of affection in that towards eachother, because when you look around at gay men that affection is eqauted with a forfeiting of one's masculinty to become an emasculated sissyboy and womanlike thing. It makes it hard for guys into guys that do it the Tribal and Ancient Greek way.

  • @dstewart28 the word gay denotes a political identity (as envisioned by the gay liberation front and other groups that evolved after the Stonewall riot). That is what I mean when I say I am gay. I am defining myself as someone who is same-sex attracted and who feels he is entitled to all the rights and respect due straight people. Unfortunately, straight media has co-opted the word to describe people whose behavior they fear and deplore. You do us a disservice by validating that usage.

  • @selfidentity1 so says feminists. It's perfectly natural for men to be in the company of other men without women in the picture. Tainos are male dominated enviroments and they arent repressed homosexuals, there isnt anything repressed about them.

No women's land it is with them. That must be paradise. lol

  • @dstewart28 I am not a feminist, I am an observer of people's behavior. I do not defend women, I think we are cowards, we join forces with whoever is in power positions through marriage or secretarial roles and that is the sole reason for a male dominated world. And forget about repressed, whenever men gang up against a woman, its open homosexuality at its best, there is no other word for it!

  • @selfidentity1 Phew, that's a relief. lol. I too am an observer of such things you learn alot about people like that..flip a sociology degree, that's literaly textbook when compared to actually being in the arena. Open homosexuality at it's best, how is that? lol

  • @dstewart28 Open homosexuality: engaging in homo erotic bonding behavior (though without physical contact) in the presence of other people, especially women.

  • @holmsatlarge you've mentioned one of my favorite movie! IF is great, as well as its director and actors! And about Goode: I like him, he is making good work in movies!

  • @topolino29 "If"is an excellent movie, and it does show male coupling as nothing special.I think of the young blonde student (the lust object of the House older boys) as a young Sebastian before going to Oxford.Goode turns in a remarkable performance in "The Perfumer"

  • This is one of my favorite scenes, Sebastian can be so serious sometimes, always worrying himself, which is why i adore him, Charles is a good friend.

  • oh my good this is amazing . I adore the book and simply love the series. I'd love to meet Jeremy tho, he must be really nice :) I love him here, he looks so young!

  • I met him years before this was made, and he looks even younger here than he did in the early 70s!

  • really? how did you meet him? what was he like?

  • 1971-3 he was John the Baptist in Godspell, London. I saw it 10 times, partly because gorgeous David Essex was Jesus.

At the interval the actors invited the audience up on stage for wine and a chat. I didn't want to talk to David Essex after 3 times (a bit dull). I'd never heard of Jeremy before but he was so good in the part. He was friendly and charming to talk to, and very interesting. He had longish, layered hair and was so tall & handsome.

  • what year was this movie made? not the new one this one. Thanks!

  • This was a masterpiece theater adaptation of the Waugh novel. It came out in the early 80s (1981) in multiple TV installments. Simply Brilliant!

  • One of the best true-to-the book film adaptations that Ive ever seen. The new film that just came out is a pile of rubbish!

  • Agreed & agreed. Is the series entire available here?

  • This was world's better than the novel imho!

My daughter's bffs met Jeremy last yr, on a set near Austin,he was the nicest guy ever. He endlessly posed with them for their photos and put his long arms around everyone. He was a hugger and very friendly. A total English sweetheart :) Love him! thankx for posting!

  • Haven't seen this or the movie, but it looks great. But I have a question is it conclude that Charles and Sebastian were lovers at one point, or just good friends?

  • It was hinted at that they were lovers. In this tv adaptation they didn't go into that much. In the more recent film version they emphasised it a lot.

Charles certainly had at least a man crush on Sebastian.

  • okay thanks :)

  • Jeremy Irons looks so young here. This is a new movie, yes?

  • no not at all...it's quite old actually...like 1980s I think?

  • Ahhhh no wonder. Thanks :o)

  • Nice arse, Jeremy.

  • Anthony and Jeremy are fit as hell *sighs*

  • someone please download the whole series! ive tried unsuccessfully to rent this.would be eternally grateful.

    lornadoone38

  • Have you tried Netflix? i'm pretty sure they have it.

  • I hope watch this movie soon. Jeremy seems very attractive.

  • This is not taken from the film recently made. This is from the TV series, it was made in 1979, has eleven chapters and is based on a novel of the same title. Surely you will enjoy it¡. Best regards.

  • I didn´t know it was a TV series,I will watch it!but I think that before I will read the novel.

    Thank you for information!!

  • you're wellcome¡

  • this looks fascinating. i'll have to see if i can rent it

  • Bad casting of Cordelia, she should be uglier.

  • Actually, it is great casting. In the book, she is "plain"--not ugly. This actress is plain, but not ugly.

  • I love to Anthony. Very sexy man and a great actor

  • god, Jeremy Irons is male perfection personified! The other guy's pretty sexy too, despite the teddy bear he carries around.

  • any heterosexual who always is attacking gay men are nothing nore than a little gay themselves.

    love this film ...beautiful!

  • i love it too but it was not a film, but a tv series from the 80s. Check it out.

  • I love Jeremy Irons...just love him.

  • I was 16 when this was shown in Italy, in 1981, and couldn't help falling in love with Jeremy and Anthony....

  • I'm happily married and neither could I ..

  • Are they wearing white after Labor Day? I am appalled!

  • Why are you watching it then asshole?

  • so, every religion forbids love?

  • And what are 'khifs'? :P

  • actually it is only the traditional religions that prohibit homoesexuality. progressive religions (eg. liberal judaism) will happily give ceremonies to same sex couples.

  • That's pretty funny coming from an illiterate toolbox who calls himself adolfhitler7. As I recall good ole Adolf wasn't exactly on the straight and narrow himself, if you catch my drift, and the NSDAP was full of homosexuals, incl. SA chief Roehm and his deputy, Heines, who were both caught in bed with men when Hitler had them killed during the 'Knight of the Long Knives.'

  • On a less scholarly note... young anthony andrews and young jeremy irons... naked.

I do feel I've gone to heaven!

  • You are not even pathetic, you are just a waste of space.

  • I found the series at the library and I'm quite hooked I must admit. I've not seen the whole thing, but I think it's a shame there's only 11 episodes. I was just wondering, as I'm sort of confused about this: I'm think I'm right in assuming that Sebastien is gay, but I'm not sure if Charles is. Charles says that he loves him, and he acts attracted, but (so far as I'm in mark you) they don't get together.

Regarding this clip, Andrews looks amazing and they have great chemistry. :)

  • You may want to read the book by Waugh. Sebastian is gay and Charles has a brief college fling with him. Charles is straight but does have this one gay episode. Of couorse the book only alludes to all this but it is rather simple to deduce.

  • the guy in the new version does not look anything like anthony andrews! and judging by the trailers he does not do justice to the character of sebastian! from what i saw his sebastian is a pale, spineless little creature. the sebastian in the original was so charming, yet naughty. he held court while they were in oxford, everyone was drawn to him! such strength of character, until of course the bottle took over.

  • wow

  • you should see ben whishaw act before you judge..trailers can be deceiving sometimes :)

  • Yes but trailers make stories and actors look better so the less than average trailer can only mean a terrible film with inadequate acting. As it happens the only thing good about the new film is Castle Howard and the cinematography.

  • I love the way the British say 'mummy' :)

  • lol

    we don't all say it

    only toddlers and snobs really

    normal people just say mum

  • Upper class say mummy

  • More nude men, FANTASTIC!!!

  • Last I heard, Ben Wishaw will be Sebastian. He was so good in Perfume, but I don't see him being as etherially beautiful as Anthony Andrews. And I can't imagine focusing on Charles/Julia and cutting out Sebastian - that's ridiculous. He's haunted by the exotic Sebastian and can never be happy with his sister.

I'll see it, I'm sure, but I don't see how they can come close to the original.

  • On the contary I think that if their was any man on this earth who perfectly fits the phrase 'etherialy beautiful' it is Ben Whishaw. He is almost too beautiful. I couldnt imagine an actor today who was better suited to the role, I am excited to see his peformance. Anthony Andrews is quite angelic looking but Sebastian is suposed to be dark headed, the book says that his close ressemblance to his sister is partly what attacts Charles to Julia.

  • please tell me where in the book Waugh states that S. is dark-haired? The resemblence to Julia is surely the way they look, not the hair colour!!

  • page 74 when J gives him a lift to Brideshead, to see S, after he hurt his ankle. "she so much ressembled Sebastian" "...I knew her and she did not know me. Her dark hair was scarcley longer than Sebastians, and it blew back fom her forehead as his did: her eyes on the darkling road were his, but larger" The impression I got when reading the book was that J and S were almost a mirror image of each other.

  • So I think it is impotant that they share the same colour, as their likness should be uncanny. As I said I havent seen this version, so I do not know if Julia is blonde or not, if so it wouldnt matter as long as she mirrored Sebastian. Them both being fair would be better than him being blonde and her being dark haired.

  • I think it's ambiguously written, like much in the book. It could be interpreted as "her dark hair was scarcely longer than Sebastian's [dark] hair." Or it could be read as her hair being scarcely longer than Sebastian's hair, whatever its colour. The makers of the series clearly thought he had blonde hair (presumably they could have picked any actor for the part). It's not clear either way. Blonde hair is perhaps more angelic. Doesn't really matter either way.

  • I didnt see it as ambigious. Chales remarks on her dak hair, whilst pondeing how much she looks like Sebastian. Which gives the impresion S also has dark hair. I think their ressemblace to one another is more important than the actual hair colour, as long as its the same it dosent matter. I only mentioned the dark hair because in my mind when I read the book I saw him as being dark and Ben Whishaw fits how I imagined Sebastian. I cant wait to see this adaptation, having heard so much about it.

  • @TinyWeeThing Charles remarks on her hair as dark-to my mind this makes it stand out as different from Sebastian`s,else why bring it up?

  • I just saw the trailer and I was amazed that Ben Wishaw looked so much like Anthony Andrews in this! The big ears and his mouth, especially. I will reserve the etherially beautiful judgement until I see him in action. I really did love him in Perfume - even though he was filthy much of the time, he held his body so skillfully that he projected a strong sense of wrongness. For sure, both men are so oddly beautiful that you either love or hate the way they look. I love them both.

  • continued I have never seen this vesion but have ecently read the book and so my interpetaion of Sebastian is based on what I have read not what I have seen and when I heard Ben Whishaw had been cast my first thought was 'perfect' Having said that this version is so legendery I can not wait to see it, I hope it lives up to all my expectations. I have heard that it is very faithfull to the book so that must surley be a good thing :- )

  • You can't compete with a 15 hour series in 2 hours, something has to go!!!

    It's had poor reviews already.

  • God, this brings back all sorts of feelings. I was a young teen struggling with being an atheist-raised-catholic/protestant. So it hit all kinds of buttons. Plus, loving Brideshead is like the first step in fag hag training. It's no coincidence that Grace Adler's wedding march was the theme to this series! lol. I loved this so much, I was young enough that my parents screened the content for the "racier" scenes. At least I got to see Brit-boy tushy back then.

    Thanks for this!

  • Absolutely brilliant casting, I can't think of anyone else to play these complex characters. Irons and ANDREWS ARE JUST FANTATSIC

  • Ok this is gonna sound nuts but...we are watching this right now in my English class and I think Sebastian is absolutely adorable! I would be drawn to him too! Major cutie.

  • No, that doesn't sound nuts! I've been a Sebastian fangirl for nearly three years now. He's lovely. :)

  • As with everything in this series there are two things going on in this scene--the sunbathing is a sign of the growing intimate friendship between the two. But this has nothing to do with sunbathing. It is all about how Catholicism turns the world upside down from the way "everybody else" sees it. To be Catholic is to live half on this earth and half in the spiritual realm which has its own unique logic and meaning.

  • right on

  • Yes. This is about the difference between how Catholics view the world and how "everyone else" does. But it's also about how different Catholics respond differently to Catholicism, each living by or for or with it in his own way.

  • damn! Jeremy = the hotness!

  • Delicious! Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Does anyone know of any sites or sources where they would discuss the philosophy behind the novel "Brideshead Revisited"? I have been assigned to read the book for my Lit class and need some help.

  • No! Sebastian is a million times cuter!

  • Agreed. Anthony Andrews ftw!

  • Anthony Andrews and Jeremy Irons were incredible in Brideshead Revisited, not only for their separate performances, but also for their collobaration: the successful creation of a beautiful and believable friendship between Charles and Sebastian. I can't believe they are going to make a movie of this with Jude Law, who is not a bad actor, but how can THIS Brideshead be topped? It was the finest screen drama ever broadcast.

  • Yes, I completely agree. And although they're not using Jude Law for Sebastian any more, I'm still extremely upset about the re-make as a whole. It's just so pointless. :( Nothing will ever beat the original. It was perfect. It still is, actually. And apparently Andrew Davies plans to cut out religion. Pfft, like that'll work...

  • Yeah, I heard they are going to show Charles and Julia's relationship only, no Sebastian... What's the point of that?? That's the boring part.

  • There is no bloody point in remaking this. This miniseries is rightfully regarded one of the greatest ever made. They'll never bloody top it.

  • I've always wondered why not do another Waugh novel instead of trying to remake something that was perfect the first time?

  • That's a great idea. Unfortunately for us, Hollywood thinks it's easier to remake it as they don't have to think of camera shots or anything. They just can just change a little here and there and say "it's a reimagining".

  • Brideshead Revisited is the best screen drama I have ever seen, it changed my way of seeing life.

    Pepe Olivares, Actor form Mexico

  • "It changed my way of seeing life". In what way?

  • Wish I were next to Jeremy!!!!!!!!
